The ****ing Mental Third Anniversary Wii U Voting Thread
Inspired Heavily by Andyman949's 3DS Voting Thread Thread IndexStage 1 (not a link, you're already here) Stage 2 Stage 1 awards:Rubbish games Best characters Wished-for games Best worlds Most anticipated games Best sound Virtual Console games Best visuals eShop games Best use of the Wii U's features Stage 2 placings:Tenth Place Ninth Place Eighth Place Seventh Place Sixth Place Fifth Place Fourth Place Third Place Second and First Place! Everything else you voted for Honourables, dishonourables, and the last gasp Three years on, almost, and it's fair to say that the Wii U hasn't been Nintendo's most popular gamble. In business, it's one of the great commercial console failures. In the developers' community, it's been abandoned by the triple-A, allowing indie developers to sell their games because the buyers had no alternatives. And here? Here, it's been described as Nintendo's worst home console ever. This thread is a stand against the tide. Designed to show that even "Nintendo's worst home console ever" is worth buying, worth playing, worth celebrating. Sweeping negativity aside for the moment (for the most part), let's break out the bubbly and look back over the finest points of the Wii U's three-year struggle. This is going to be one hell of a voting thread for one hell of a machine. So one-hellish, in fact, that it's going to be broken down into two stages. Stage 1: Great Games and Gaming Moments Ten Categories, Five Votes Each Voting from now to 00:00 7th December Ten categories first up, with five votes to allocate in each category, and two weeks to vote over/ask me questions about. As with every GNamer voting thread ever, your first place gets 5 points, your second 4, down to your fifth (if you have a fifth) with 1. Then I group them all up and publish the results. To avoid queries about release dates, we're looking at games out on Wii U in PAL territories on or before 30th November, so in the console's first three years. Anything released after that can go into the Most Anticipated award, so you can anticipate XCX if you like (I do). You needn't vote in every category, or give five votes to every category you vote in, or leave comments (but every comment will be published - no hard work wasted!). I'd rather someone gave me a few votes and participated, than got overwhelmed and didn't vote at all.- Categories:
Great GamesThe Wii U Bargains Thread Award for Best eShop GameThis is for games that are only available for download, or where the retail version came later or was a "limited edition only" type of jobby. Shovel Knight qualifies, for example. VC and re-made-available Wii games excluded. The Retro Sub-Forum Award for Best Virtual Console GameWhether or not you've played them on Wii U, if they're VC they're fair game. To avoid debates, please stick to those specifically labelled "VC" by Nintendo (here's a list). That means no re-made-available Wii games. Please don't feature VC games in any other award. The Mas' Monthly Releases Threads Award for Most Anticipated Wii U GameIf it's not out in the UK/Aus. already, it's in here. Unless it's out somewhere else and doesn't look like it's coming to the UK. The Kirby's Rumour Buffet Award for Most Wished-For Wii U GamePretend the NX isn't right around the corner for this one. Theoretically possible games you want that haven't been announced yet. This was a bit of a cluster when Andy did it, so I'll be grouping games more or less based on franchise and genre (for example, 2D Metroid and 3D Metroid will be separate - questions for clarifications welcome). But I still wouldn't take the final rankings too seriously. The Cr@p Games Reviews Award for the Rubbishest Game We've Played on Wii UIt won't be the rubbishest game, because most of us won't have bought the real shiters. It might be the most disappointing game instead. That's how these things roll. I guess don't just put your 6-10 from the best game vote backwards, if that's all you've played - oh what the hell, go nuts. Gaming MomentsThe The_Jaster Award for Best Visuals in a Wii U GameVote for the game, please, not the scene or vista. But feel free to include screenshots with your vote! The Balladeer Award for Best Sound in a Wii U GameAs above, vote for the game, but links to music on Youtube much appreciated. If a game's got so-so music but great sound-effects or voice acting, that goes here too! The Awesomedude Award for Best Character in a Wii U GameSlightly different: vote for the character, not the game. Yes, you can vote for multiple characters in the same game. The GNamer Towers Award for Best World in a Wii U GameAs above, vote for the world. Like Andy, I'll be fairly flexible on what constitutes a "world". Might do some behind-the-scenes grouping if people's choices are too disparate. The ZeroJones Award for Best Use of the Wii U's Special Features in a Wii U GameSo-named because he's the ideas generation room of the admin. team. For this one, again, vote for the game that made best use of the second screen, stylus, gyros, Miiverse, amiibo support I guess, etc. etc.
After that, we'll move onto stage 2. Timings may be subject to change: there's a huge amount to get done here, but I'll do my best. Hopefully this will give you all something to enjoy, and hopefully any Wii U non-owners will find reasons to make the purchase here too!

| 53 views and no posts apart from my own? Okay, let's break it down a bit. I've removed Stage 2 for now (which will be favourite Wii U games), so hopefully the OP is less intimidatingly large. Also, the voting template gives the awards a bit more simply, without the frippery. Sorry for 3P. |

| I clicked, but I don't feel I have anything worth contributing yet. And honestly, there's no way I'd have a view worth contributing with only a week of experience. I won't have even played more than three games by the deadline! |

| Actually, I'm not surprised: Nintendo's fairly good at making profitable consoles. But in pure numbers of consoles sold, not to mention the doom 'n' gloom articles published about them, it seems like a lot of the industry consider it a failure. Fair enough to those who don't have one/have just got one not voting (although Athrun, shall I just put you down as XCX for the most anticipated and have done w'it? ). Hopefully you'll be inspired to pick one up/play some games by the votes! |

| Actually put me down for xcx in everything! Unless for some bizarre reason I end up not liking it (Earth will turn in to a singularity before that happens methinks) it'll get thoroughly played even by the 7th! |

Yeah, I think it is a definite failure from sales projections, and in terms of how Nintendo hoped it would sell - especially coming after the stupidly successful Wii. But Nintendo's commitment to making hardware that they can sell at a profit (rather than at a loss like Sony and Microsoft do, where they rely on software sales to drive profits) is what has ensured the WiiU has made them money. Arguably the same commitment is what lost them out on so much of an audience, as it necessitated the machine being too underpowered to compete with the PS4/XBONE, but also lead to Nintendo refusing to cut the cost of the WiiU down enough to entice the casual market. Either of those two approaches would have been a gamble though, and could easily have ended with Nintendo losing a lot of money. Instead Nintendo played it safe. Maybe now Nintendo will take a risk instead with the NX - they can afford to do so, after all, what with all the money they have from the Wii and DS days. But anyway, I will vote in this later! |

| Just sent my votes over to Balla, I did find it weird Wii games weren't allowed to be voted for VC even though there not officially VC games they kinda feel like them as aren't they next to DS, GBA etc on the eShop menu but I don't think I would of gone for any, saying that.
Couldn't likes of Jay still vote for most anticipated and games they wish were on Wii U and maybe even visuals for instance as they must of seen the games. |

The Wii games, I feel, have already had their chance in the sun. There's been a Wii vote already. If they were formally labelled VC then fair enough, but they're not. (And you don't think anyone would go for them? SMG's among that list!) And yes, he can if he wants! |

| I think people would have gone for a few like SMG, I'm just saying personally if they were allowed I don't think I would of put any in over the 5 games I did pick. But I can see why you would & wouldn't allow them like you say.
I hope Jay etc do contribute and make this the best vote thread yet.
Without giving to much away but some of my choices are odd but I think because I've played what well over 100 games on the Wii U. In the cat of best use, I can't see many voting for the same as me and I manged to do a 5 worst easily and they are bad, I reckon Cappa will have a similar experience with that cat. |

| As the WiiU is backwards-compatible with Wii games, the ones one the eShop feel like downloads of retail games, rather than VC games of yesteryear. |
