Thought of instead of what you're watching we might have a general Movie thread in general.

So can talk about upcoming movies we're all excited for ones we used to like etc

Recently I saw Life Of Pi, in 3D. It met my expectations from the (excellent) book but did not exceed them. I recommend it if you want either a) visual spectacle or b) a thoughtful film on the nature of religion. Next up: Les Misérables!

Last one was The Hobbit, in which Martin Freeman made a boring stretched-out fantasy epic with too many underdeveloped characters just about bearable.

Not seeing Les Mis. The musical underwhelmed me: I expect the film to be even worse.

A work colleague lent me Three And Out, which was a bit of a giggle.

Especially the emotional bit where you could see the cameraman in a massive mirror right in the middle of the shot.

Keeping it highbrow, I'm rather looking forward to seeing Wreck-It Ralph! with friends. I haven't been to the cinema since I saw The Muppets last February.

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would, kind of felt like it was dragging about halfway through the second act though. Definitely have to devote yourself to the movie, otherwise you'll miss a lot.

Also @Scott yes

I plan on seeing Le Mis tonight.

Apart from that I don't think there's much else I'm interested in at the moment, although I am holding out for Iron Man 3 and the Man of steel

In the UK, Wreck-It Ralph! and the next Die Hard are both out before mid-February... well, actually, the next Die Hard is out on Valentine's Day. Perfect date movie?! Shocked

I haven't been to the cinema in almost a month now. I'm beyond withdrawal symptoms. I'm over them. I've virtually dead. My last film was Pitch Perfect, which is great, if anyone's interested. Looking forward to havcing some free time in a week or so and going to see a Les Mis/Lincoln/Impossible/Zero Dark Thirty quadruple bill.

I hardly ever go to the cinema. I think the last film I saw was The Hunger Games. D: I really want to go and see Les Mis and I'm looking forward to Wreck-It-Ralph in February as it should be pretty good I think.

I'm not really a film person, and I can't even remember the last thing I saw at the cinema. I will definitely be seeing Monsters University later in the year though.

Ooh! I do hope they don't ruin Monsters Inc.. My faith in PIXAR - for the first time ever - has been slightly dented after Cars 2 existed and Brave underwhelmed.

Maybe they got lucky with Toy Story 3. I'm not keen on their recent sequels policy when their original output is (generally) stellar.

Up is one of the best films ever made, though, and that's fairly recent. I'm a bit weary of Monster University all the same, but I really hope they nail it. They're more than capable.

It took me a couple of watches to appreciate UP!, but once I got it, it resonated with me by how successfully it blends the downright bizarre with break-down-in-tears levels of emotion and gets you to see it as a coherent piece.

UP! is a good one, for me (hey, all of this is my opinion, of course!), but not quite up there with their best (which I rate as The Incredibles and Wall-E, just so's you know!). Toy Stories 2 and 3 were both good, with 3 being that rarest of things - a third film that manages to be the best of the lot. Cars 2 was better than Cars, as well (which I really did not like). So, high hopes for Monsters University. Mind you, I go to every Pixar film with high hopes! Grin

I didn't cry at TS3. I was even a little cynical about its tear-jerking efforts. Does that make me some sort of monster? Still a good film though.

If you're a monster, I am too! I cried at UP! (the end, though!) and I've welled up at Wall-E a few times.

What did you make of Brave? I thought the second half was... odd. Especially after we thought it had established itself in the first half. I guess the halfway divide is a bit of a PIXAR thing.

I really love Toy Story 3, and I admit being one of the ones that got totally drawn into the ending. I guess it's testament to the writers that I (and many others) got so darn attached to the characters.

Brave felt underwhelming, to me. Having read up a bit more about it, I understand that the story fits in with Celtic traditions of magic but yes, I'm with you - the change in focus in the second half was a little much. I'm keen on seeing it again, to see if I appreciate it differently.
