| A new iteration of the 2DS appeared! Is anyone interested? I'm going to swerve this one, to be honest - I use my consoles until they break. |

| I don't think this is for the likes of us. The 2DS idea was a good'n for kiddies and that, but the original machine was a tacky-looking lump. This one is a little classier, and I can imagine Nintendo keeping it in shops as the entry-level cheapo machine for people who don't want to front the bucks for a Switch or one of the BBOPs.
Also, it looks a lot like a convenient way to shift excess 3DS parts without making costly 3D screens . . . |

| Just after I'd said I wanted the 3DS to die off as well. I stand by that, by the way: while they definitely are aimed at two different groups of people, I still worry that the 3DS continuing will snatch away development resources from the Switch, especially Nontendo companies who'll want to take advantage of the existing massive userbase. And I like the 3D. In short, |

| It's a odd one to me as if you are the "hardcore" that care about the extra POWER, who all the companies seem to be focusing on. Then surely, you would have already pick up a New model and I don't know if the kid audience, really care about all that.
I think Drunka, is right that Nintendo has components and want to use them all up, whilst keeping costs down. |

I've been having minor issues with my R button & analog stick on my N3DS but I have that ambassador edition as a spare but if I didn't then I'd go for one of these. |

| I've never gone for an XL model so I am quite tempted by it, looks very nice and sounds good enough for the price. |

| I really like how they've put the game & SD card slots under a little flap on the bottom, Nintendo life have a wee hands on up & their only concern seems to be where the volume slider is. |

| If you go to Nintendo's UK store you can buy a 2DS, New 2DS XL and a New 3DS XL.
On the New 3DS XL page, there is a choice of two systems Metroid or Animal Crossing and that's it (similar on GAMEs website). I looked this up as I've seen reports this morning saying that the New 3DS XL will be discontinued and I wanted to see if I could still buy one, I can but looks like when there gone there gone.
This leaves available in the UK the 2DS and New 2DS XL both cheap options for the likes of gJones kids, I really do think that is what the system now is a cheap way to get kids into gaming.
I remember Sony doing the same with the PS2 it went down to £99 when PS3 was new and shiny (plus it cost £450), PS2 still sold well and still got games along with stuff added to the platinum range.
Just replace PS2 with 2DS, PS3 with Switch and platinum with selects and you've got the same out come. |

| It makes a lot of sense to reposition the 3DS as that cheap machine to get young'uns into Nintendo - not everyone will be able to afford a Switch, after all. And I might need a cheap one myself in the near future, so that helps me immensely. |

| It seems what I've been saying is happening and Nintendo are keeping the 3DS around with this from Kimishima.
A multitude of titles across a wide variety of genres have been released for Nintendo 3DS, creating one of the strongest lineups ever. We are, of course, continuing to develop new software, but we believe it is important to leverage the rich library of Nintendo 3DS series titles to drive sales with Nintendo 3DS owners, as well as consumers who recently purchased Nintendo 3DS hardware.
The affordability of the Nintendo 3DS family of systems places it in a critical position as the first dedicated video game platform for children who have no prior experience with dedicated video game systems. It is also positioned as an affordable product for budget-conscious consumers. We will continue working to promote Nintendo 3DS to these consumers.
I'm thinking more games added to Players Choice and bundles of the system which suits like a lot of us said gJones (not seen him for a while) kids as a cheap way to get into gaming.
I think the New Software will be things like Detective Pikachu which isn't really new but is for us in the west as I would think most of Nintendo's 3DS market now would be in the west as who hasn't got one in Japan. |

| That's that. The 3DS has officially stopped being manufactured, and it's now discontinued. https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2020-09-17-nintendo-3ds-discontinued What a legendary system this was - it gave me hundreds upon hundreds of hours of great entertainment and it hosted some of my all-time favourite games. It's a bad time to need a replacement though, as my system is starting to creak and crash! |

| There must be a fair few 2DSes out there in the wild or something. Sad to see the little guy go though - it certainly was a legendary system!
I'd love to do a whopper vote thread like we did for the DS years ago, going through each genre and highlighting the best of the machine. |

| Pour one out for the little guy. Mine still gets almost daily play, mostly in the form of Pokémon during toilet breaks. |

I knew you'd love a vote thread. If folks are interested, I'd be more than happy to run a 3DS vote thread much in the style of the DS one from a while back. |

I'll make a separate vote thread just for you. Sweet, sounds like there's a few folks interested in it then! Let me see what I can rustle up. |

Part of me feels the same since my 3DS is broken, but The Lady has hers and that'll probably do us. |

| You can have a vote thread about the 3DS if you can stop arguing about what counts as a "genre" before the second page rolls over. But srs - I'm not a handheld gaming person (found all GameBoys and DSes a bit uncomortable) and only really appreacted using the WiiU and Switch as such as their set up was a bit larger. But blimey did the 3DS have some bloody amazing games on it. |

| It's fine, we can just have the genre discussion now, then it won't carry into the thread.
So Rogue-likes are different to Rogue-lites yeah? Best and worst for each? |

| I've already told you I'll make your own bullshit Andy vote thread, don't worry.
I think the rules I ran by for the DS thread was "vote for it if you think it fits the genre, but be aware that others might think it better suits another genre so you might split the vote otherwise". |
