| For one last time... Generation 7: Run Alola Run - Praise the... moon:
We got a decent number of new 'Mons in Generation 7, a couple of which also boast multiple forms. Unsurprisingly, several had a tropical bent - either that or they were Ultra Beasts, and just weird. But that's not all! - Raise the Form Baton:
We also got a few Alola-ings of Kanto Pokémon, each getting at least the one new type. Definitely designed to tap into people's enduring love for Kanto, were they good boys and girls in their own right? I like a lot of the Gen. 7 offerings, but it's hard for me to get far past the excellent starter line. Bow ties for two stages, then awkward owl archer? Sign me the heck up! Otherwise, Golisopod is a very swish boy/girl; I like both the origin and the design of Celesteela, when the Internet's not giving it tits; and then Mimikyu is adorable and terrifying, a mix I'm very fond of in 'Mons. I'm pretty fond of most of the S&M Pokémon: even when their designs aren't my favourite, I can usually see what they're trying to do. But here we have Bounsweet, whose design is too simple; Necrozma, whose design is too complicated; Bruxish, who's an ugly piece of work, even though I know it's meant to be; and finally, Incineroar, who not only really should be yet another fire/fighting type but USURPED DECIDUEYE'S RIGHTFUL PLACE IN SMASH. A fair few of the Alolan evolutions have gone down the 'entertainingly derp' school of design. I'm okay with this! It means we get Dugtrio, with its glorious hair; Golem, the newest moustache boy on the block; and Exeggutor, which is bloody ridiculous. Also Sandshrew is still cute and tubby. Right, Let's Go is out next week, so that's this project done! Please leave me some thoughts on it before we wrap up! I will read them all. |

| Overall, great gen. You're dead wrong about Incineroar who is excellent and appropriately typed.
Also is that all the Alolan forms? It felt like loads more at the time!

| Mimikyu and Bewear, my two favourite pokemon, came from gen 7. The designs are excellent and it's probably the best gen since 2 in that regard. Alolan forms are inspired and the perfect way of handling nostalgia while offering something new. |

| I'm surprised Drunka didn't mention Bewear! Gen. 3 just wins out for me, I think, but it's definitely in my top 3. I thiiiink it's 3,2,7,1,5,6,4 for m'self. 2 and 7 could swap on another day, they really did some top work there. - Drunkalilly wrote:

I had to check myself, but apparently so! We've been conned. Hopefully we see more regional forms come Gen. 8, they're a damn sight better than the Megas were. |

| Yeah, solid generation of critters. I agree with Drunka - Incineroar is a top lad and is so much better than previous Fire/Fighting types. That's not to take away from the Rowlett line, who are similarly brilliant. I also think Alolan Vulpix/Ninetales are better than their original designs! There's this ethereal quality to their design in Alola which really adds a lot to them, I reckon. |

| My cat-loving girlfriend turned down the Litten line on the 'strength' of Incineroar alone. Hideous thing.
Alolapix is cute, but I think I do prefer the original. Just. Ice/Fairy is an excellent typing though (unless you're a dragon). |

| So you agree with me then, Dartrix is best?
Real talk, chaps: help me understand the Popplio chain's appeal. I get the Rowlet chain, natch; I get Litten, and I get Incineroar iff you're into yer wrassler boys like Jay and Drunka. But as a man who loves pinnipeds (Spheal is bae), Popplio seems weirdly out of proportion. (As does Litten, to an extent, and Rowlet doesn't have proportions.) As in, something actually feels off in its body shape. Then it just gets worse, as it evolves from clown into pampered diva (if female) or RuPaul contestant (if male).
What do you like about the sealions, OR? Why do you prefer them to the owls, Drunka? Help a man understand! |

| I love seeing a powerful fighting Pokemon which is coded with femininity and beauty rather than masculine and violent imagery. I also like seals, and the concept of trained performance seals, an enduring form of animal cruelty, being recontextualised by the magical and lovingbond which Sun and Moon best exemplified is powerful and evocative.
Most importantly, she's a good sweet pupper who everyone was mean to and I'm a big softy. |

What do you like about the sealions, OR? She's a beautiful and dumb clown dog from the sea Of the final evolutions I'd say Decidueye is the best, but the starter is always the most important imo, and the middle generations are almost always kind of eh. Most importantly, she's a good sweet pupper who everyone was mean to and I'm a big softy. While Incineroar is pretty much exactly masculine and violent imagery distilled into an art form (and I would posit that there are better examples of feminine Pokémon out there - and worse...), I definitely get supporting the underdog. - OrangeRakoon wrote:

Ah - derp appeal. As a Goomy fan, I get this too! Now I understand, the first stage anyway. - OrangeRakoon wrote:

I knew that'd be the Bewear moment. Excellent. Anyway, cheers for your feedback fellas! That's all the generations so far, now on to the next one... - Spoiler:
Not a great design, but it's cute enough, the trailers of it moving around are nice, and maybe its evolution will be better... ...never mind.

| Yeah, it's a whole weird thing that here in Japan its considered weird and impolite to loudly blow your nose so people walk around sniffing and snorting and having big snot bubbles . . . Like trust me dude, I'd rather hear you blow your nose once than hear you sniffling for this whole train journey.
Also, I think Meltan is technically Gen 7, in so much as generations are anything other than a total invention of the fanbase. |

| I know it's considered impolite to not wear a mask if you're suffering from the cold, so maybe the fact that it's frowned upon to blow your nose is linked to that? |
