What you're saying is why when looking at a gaming PC, I didn't bother and went and bought a One X as I can just plug it in and the types of games I play which basically 1st party and indies, the money it would cost was never worth it for about a dozen 3rd party games which would take advantage of the POWER!

Have you tried looking into building your own PC, Jimmers? My mate built his own PC and it didn't look garish in the least and was packed to the gills with power for a reasonable price, too.

I do agree with you re. consoles. I have a PS4, and would rather play games on that. They're all designed to work on that hardware specification, and that's good enough for me; I don't need the extra power of a PS4 Pro. But PC games are often mega-cheap, and are usually the more common multi-player options with my friends; the latter isn't likely to change. It's not that the graphics aren't mega-impressive; it's that, currently, e.g. No Man's Sky runs at 4FPS in an 800x600 window - basically unplayable. I'm going for an expensive spangly one as I hope it means I won't have to worry about this again for 6-7 years. I am an idiot, however.

Pretty much any time I've bought a peripheral or add-on, I've bought something incompatible. So I am dead scared of doing so. Also. I had a probably-misguided understanding that, at current prices, components work out to be no cheaper than a complete thing. I am an idiot, however.

Keep your eyes peeled on this Reddit page here. Might find a deal or two.

There's a few part picker sites out there too that can be found with a quick google search for building a PC that might help too.

Multiplayer has never been a thing I've been that bothered about plus I've got my online mates like you guys who are on PS4 and my workmates on Xbox One but when anyone asks me which one of the two to get I always bring up multiplayer first, especially in a game as a service world.

Just when I think PC, I do think POWER! more than anything such as the multiplayer. I do remember the PC Master Race guy at work saying like you games are much cheaper, I know that can be true for STEAM sales but he'd be like everything is cheap but I look at Monster Hunter World and it's £49.99 like on console that I never saw that cheap side when I was looking at a gaming PC, which he'd always wanted to argue with me, it might just be the games I play and that I buy day one.

I'll admit I do see it with indies but I reckon that's more of a case that the studio bought a Switch dev-kit etc and need to recoup the extra.

The thing is though, that'll drop to like £15 by next year whereas it'll still be selling for double that on consoles. PC gaming is cheap for those with a bit of patience.

I don't know about that as console games do drop in price rather quickly now as well (seen likes of Prey drop to a tenner in a year), as you can get Monster Hunter World for instance right now for less than £30.

Maybe so, but not to the extent of Steam Sales. I was picking up fairly new releases for less than a tenner on the regular when I was playing on PC primarily.

Yeah I guess and you'll know more than me as I'm looking in from the outside but it does seem to be a right place right time deal, which might work for some but like I was saying the PC Master Race guy, was like just buy a £800-1200 and you'll save right away, which I couldn't ever see as I would look at a Monster Hunter World when it came out.

Thanks Jay - but I've probably overpaid for a custom thingy (no you don't get to know the price!). Fucking crypto-currencies!

Re. the above: I know that I'm not going to make my money back with all of the Steam Sales in the next 5-6 years, so I'm going on the excuse that it's used for many other things than games. Er... my music software will run marginally faster...

Not really £"*& me off, but an unexpected annoyance, as the good outweighs the bad. I got a new keyboard with the new computamabob - and it's backlit! Which sounds like a gimmick, but it's genuinely been a problem that the computer corner got a bit too dark sometimes. It's got extra keys just to change the colour! One of those extra keys takes over the "menu" key. You know, the one next to the right-hand Windows key (why are there 2 of those?) that's like right-clicking. Well, given that I've power-used Excel at work for 16 years, I'm one of the only people in the world that actually would like to use that key! So, if I happen to take any work home, it's likely to be obliterated with the a letter E appearing randomly (and my desk changing colour).

PostSubject: Re: Things That Really !&$%2 You Off   Things That Really !&$%2 You Off - Page 32 EmptyFri 17 Aug 2018 - 15:08

Old people.  Again.

Long story short I spent the better part of the day in the hospital after waking up to the most ungodly stomach cramps/aches/whatever I've ever experienced.

That isn't the thing that annoyed me though (managed to fluke the staff all being nice so the actual visit was perfectly pleasant if somewhat boring).  No, what got under my skin was an entitled old biddy when I was walking into the supermarket after being discharged.

I, not having a car (it seriously isn't needed when I live literally one block from the center of town), went to and from the hospital in a taxi.  So, I get discharged and hit up the supermarket for some anti-acid stomach solutions, arriving in the taxi.  Someone else is also hitching a ride home after I get dropped off.

Normally people get picked up from that spot of the carpark with their shopping.  One bloke misinterpretes the taxi rocking up as his arriving, he takes it in his stride when the other person hurridly informs them that's not the case.

Oh, but that isn't good enough for the old woman standing next to him with her own trolly!  As I walk past her into the shop she loudly mutters words to the effect of "us old people being made to wait for taxi's" disdainfully, as if a twenty-something year old has no business having one.

Now, lets ignore the fact the other person in the taxi was a 60+ year old with weaker muscles than normal people, already shooting down this entitled attitude that I was somehow pinching taxis from the elderly.  Lets get to the fact that I had woken up this morning to the feeling that someone had materialised their hand inside my stomach and was crushing my lower-stomach/upper intestines to such a degree I could barely even think for the pain (I hardly decided to go to the hospital for stilts and giggles).

Considering she was standing there with a full trolley of shopping she had presumably done herself she also loses any argument about needing priority (especially doing it at after-school time.  You want prompt taxis you don't request one just after school is let out).  No, she was just some entitled whining old biddy making stupid assumptions because oh dear lord she has to wait for a taxi at the busiest time of the day.

I swear it took every fibre of my being not to turn round to her and inform her, in far more polite yet also extremely condescendingly terms, to go fleep herself.  Especially since the stomach was yet again beginning to cramp.  But no, I did the noble thing and walked past acting as if I didn't hear her, because frankly I had more important things to do like get the aforementioned anti-acid medication and easy-to-digest foods (and also because despite my attitude online I dislike actual confrontation).

God I hate entitled old people.  First I get given a potentially lethal strain of the flu by one last year on a coach (because nothing says you respect the general public like being blatantly ill with something contagious and getting on a confined space for seven hours with other people without so much as bringing a face mask) and then we have idiots like this one making stupid arrogant assumptions.

DISCLAIMER: I am not saying all old people are awful entitled people.  Merely it's a stereotype I've been encountering a fair bit in recent times and I have to say it is really beginning to piss me off.  I especially hate that they seem to have this mindset of "well I'm old so that gives me the right to not give a shlefle about anybody else!"

What did she expect - for you to give up your taxi like it was a seat on the bus? I would have thought the concept of the taxi service would be around long enough for folks to understand it...

You have never had true misery until you've had to sit on a tram for twenty minutes while a woman sitting behind you spends the entire time yacking on and complaining about the most entitled crap I've ever heard. Some choice remarks include her attacking the person at the other end because apparently her giving them one hundred dollars last week and another hundred dollars this week is fine, but another hundred dollars next week? Crossing the line to the point it's worthy loudly pontificating to a person! Gee I wish I had even fifty dollars to kick around that casually. Meh

To put things into perspective she was so annoying I found myself completely okay with my trouser leg that had somehow become encased in bird droppings (I have absolutely no idea how they got on the leg. Sat down and there they were. I think they must've gotten on my shopping bag when I sat down to do a Giratina raid at a park and then transferred when I put the bag on my leg).

You don't get any of that here. Phone conversations on the train are a big no-no, and even face-to-face chats are kept hushed. I've even been here long enough to join in with the judging stares when some rude ばか外人 loudly argue on a packed carriage.

That seems to be the main way to keep children occupied on trains for half the families I see. Plonk them in front of a tablet playing some banal tune out of its tinny speakers, then stare at your 'phone. Like parent like child I suppose...

Incidentally I totalled a pair of suit trousers in a park not so long ago. I sat down on the grass without checking first. No

Regal, the main villain of the last book I read (Royal Assassin). What a despicable, malicious, petty, rotten, ruthless, filthy piece of excrement he is. Just thinking about him makes me actually angry.

Royal Assassin might just be one of the best fantasy novels I've read.

Anyone else encountered a villain so rotten they just rage at the thought of them? Besides Game of Thrones' Joffery of course! Winky Face

The most recent one is actually from Octopath Traveller, and is Primrose's first boss. (shivers) What's more, y'all can experience them for free, as they're in the free demo.! (If you have a Switch, natch. Sorry Athers.)

Joffrey's an excellent shout, of course - I only watched Season One of GoT and that was enough to loathe him. From what I know, there were another couple in GoT - who's the one with the dogs that Theon gets mixed up with?

Oh, and of course - Cricket Australia. Winky Face

I can only remember leaving the cinema genuinely riled up at the actions of a fictional character once and that was because of Matt bloody Damon in Interstellar. I can't exactly pinpoint why he enraged me so - maybe it was because Matt Damon is usually a trustworthy and nice fella in the bulk of his movies so I didn't expect his crushing betrayal of yer boy Matthew McConaughey. Maybe it was because I was pretty engrossed in the journey that McConaughey and chums were undertaking and wanted them to see it though. But regardless, that smarmy cowardly conniving traitor Damon was all I could talk about after the film was over. DAMN YOU!

Yeah, Damon in Interstellar was a great villain because he spent the whole time being so preachy and up himself while actually being a cowardly bastard.

Hmm, I normally enjoy a good villain. I'll have a think if there's one I've proper hated.
