Oh, they'll definitely have the final say. I think they've already come out and said there won't be any third party choices selected. Shrek and Goku will have to wait their turn.

Actually, scratch that - it seems that fact was taken from the official Smash Bros. Facebook page asking for Nintendo characters for the poll, which is hardly a a damnation for third-parties. I'd reckon your vote should be fine, especially considering Yacht Club Games themselves tweeted out a request to consider Shovel Knight for the ballot, which is a sure sign they'd be open to having him in there.

I reckon quite a lot of votes are going to be "wasted", actually. Can't see Sakurai considering any major third-party characters (SK should be fine, I reckon), or anybody who's an Assist Trophy or stage hazard (yes, I reckon my vote was wasted too Aww!

). But anybody who doesn't vote for one of the majorly wanted characters is going to miss out, because they won't have enough backing.

I reckon ol' Shove has got a good chance of winning. It's acknowledged that the WiiU and 3DS versions of the game are the best (sorry Battletoads :joker: ), everyone likes him, Yacht Club (as Moyles says) are keen to be involved, and his moveset wort of writes itself.

Fun fact - this is apparently not the first time Nintendo has polled players on what character they'd like to see in Smash. Back in 1999, Nintendo of Japan polled Japanese gamers on who they like to see in Super Smash Bros. Melee. Here's the results:

I threw a vote Simon Belmont's way. I argued that it was only fair for Konami to get a rep if Capcom, Sega and Namco all did (especially since Konami had games on the NES) and that a whip-using fighter would mix things up. A nothing vote probably but its what o want.
