When I seen this my jaw , it just looks absolutely stunning, so what do you think? prequel? sequel? or just set in the same universe as Xenoblade?
Also it will be interesting to see how they go about the multiplayer aspect.

If I ever unseal my copy of Xenoblade, I'd offer my thoughts on its possible prequel/sequel status. As my current knowledge stands, it's great to see another high-profile Wii U title in the pipeline.

Given what you can already see in the trailer i'm pretty sure prequel is completely out of the window. Shulk (at least, it looks pretty darn like him) appearing, for a start, even before considering stuff in Xenoblade's plot and other stuff.
It's definitely set in the same universe (Shulk's there, and also i believe that's the bionis you can see in the background at one point). I think the bigger question is whether it's going to be a straight up sequel, or as a few things suggest maybe more multiplayer-focused (maybe something like Monster Hunter?) or even MMORPG route.
Either way....i'm hyped. Just gotta drag myself through XB's last third first X_X

Xenoblade was one of my very favourite Wii games, so I'm psyched for this. Look at the size of that brachiosaur-thing!

I already posted in here dammit! Judging by the ending I don't see how it can be a direct sequel to Xenoblade. I'm just glad to be getting more of the similar.

I'm thinking the multiplayer is more like Monster Hunter as if it was MMO then you would think they would've shown more than 4 people playing at a time (yet they didn't) the question is though, how does MP slot into the game itself? co-op through the whole story? or is it separate from the single player?
Let the speculation run rampant.

My god. THIS GAME. THIS game has me really excited for when it is released!!
The first impressions is just amazing, even though it was technically a teaser trailer, a minute of it is enough. For one thing it seriously looks like a game you'd get on a high end PC. The draw distance is astonishing, and looks like the best looking game when it comes out late this year or early next year. Then there is the soundtrack... just... amazing.
I think it'll be Singleplayer with Online 4-player so friends that you have can join you kill off huge monsters and do other stuff - including mech battles!

You'd need to ask Mistwalker about that

Xenoblade was awesome! Great story and characters as well as English voice acting that was actually good. Any news of a sequel is great. Last story? ...

Well to be fair, the ability to shoot bananas and trip people was fun, however the game itself was short, as in fps campaign short (it took me 12 hours). The battle system was clumsy with either control method, having move and attack as the same button caused problems and the other method only produced one attack animation repeatedly. The special 'ability' you gain as Zael isn't very innovative, turn on for aggro, turn off for no aggro, as opposed to xenoblades's changing the future mechanic which offers a greater choice on how to proceed. Also you can play as any character on xenoblade, the weapon upgrade system is far superior and diverse. I could go on.
However back on topic, the monolith trailer looks stunning. The enemies look bigger than that of monster hunter!

This is the first Wii-U game that has really left me with a "wow" impression after seeing it. While I never really played Xenoblade much (not because it was a bad game, I was just too busy at the time to sink countless hours into it), I still had good fun, and this new title looks like it'll be the best of both it and other Monster Hunter-esque games. Plus there's a certain childlike appeal to fighting dinosaurs in a mech.
One of the few games that's making me want a Wii-U currently.

I hope they localize this. It looks great. I believe Xenoblade sold well so its likely depending on how big the budget for this is.

The fact they showed it on a Euro Nintendo Direct pretty much confirms it will be released here.

I don't think the US would take as long for this game. Maybe the kind of gap we had to wait for Brawl.

So, I've thought through all the things I disliked about Xenoblade, and I'm going to list them all as a topic for discussion and to boost my ego. These are the things X should not have:
No chests: I cannot be the only person who likes finding a chest and getting a rare item out of it. Screw you, shops: I got this through exploration, not capitalism! The "flavour items only" thing in XC was fun, and I'd like the sparkles on the ground to return, but give us some chests too please!
Lots of "collect ten things" quests: about one per village is fine. More than that, and trawling the ground for sparkles loses its... sparkle.
Jagged scenery porn: this really shouldn't be a problem on the Wii U, and it didn't even bother me that much at the time, put there was the occasional feeling that XC bit off more than it could chew when it came to vistas. Let's have some beautiful spectacles this time please.
(These two are end-game spoilers.)
Spoiler:
Good people not dying: by which I mean I wouldn't mind if the girlfriend really did kick the bucket in the opening scene this time, rather than the heroes' motivation being bull the entire time. "She's dead! Wait, no, she's a machine. And we can bring her back." Rubbish.
Spoiler:
An anticlimactic ending sequence: Never has the end of an entire universe felt so disappointing.
Horribly unbalanced characters: There was no reason to use Reyn or even Shulk after about halfway through. Especially considering...
Reyn time: The main reason I switched to Japanese voices. That said...

I agree with the side quest point, there wasn't much individuality to them and they got tedious fast. Reyn is pretty inept halfway through the game, However I found Shulk to be great the whole way through especially when used with
Spoiler:
Dunban and Fiora
As for the story im a little bit more forgiving, I found the ending quite satisfying especially from a philosophical point of view,
Spoiler:
that Alvis is actually a super computer, was the existence of everyone merely that produced by an AI? I always like to see theories of God used in games, although this is only my take on it.
Certain characters brought a great mix of surprise and individual adversity towards characters
Spoiler:
In particular I was impressed by the impact of Mumkhar in relation to Dunban and to a greater extent Dickson in relation to Shulk.
However they do need to work on the sidequests and better balance the characters, because my party absolutely tore apart the final quarter of the game, other than that it was a great display from Monolith.

To be clear, with regards to the ending
Spoiler:
it was solely the universe-blowing-up scene that annoyed me. It was too abrupt, and the "Zanza pushing over Meyneth" scene was hackneyed as heck and felt uncomfortably staged. Yes, someone with a power kick is obviously going to be able to launch the programme by pressing one button. Ehhhhhh.
Also how the heck does your favourite team not have Sharla in? I played as her for most of the game. Good medic, best friend.

Seems awfully silly for this to be languishing on the second page, when it was one of the best games that Nintendo showed off. How about that open world, then? I know Athrun's salivating over the robots too. Athrun, stop that, your keyboard's getting damp.
