😒 Drunka, I am adventurous! Up to a point. I haven't had katsu curry for ages. Teriyaki steak's my favourite, but I'll frequently opt for the healthier salmon. Ginger chicken udon's also good, despite the pickled red nonsense on top. I'll have ramen every so often, although I must admit the broth tends to be a bit much. The duck donburi's good when I don't fancy noodles so much, or the firecracker when I'm feeling braver. Having said that, all this talk is making me want a katsu curry this week.

I've been to Wagamama 3 times, and had ginger chicken udon the first two times. By accident, mind; I was desperately trying to order something different for adventure's sake.

A milk and gluten free ginger nut biscuit. Well, actually, a lot of them - purely for research purposes for you guys, you understand. They're quite nice: bit less crunchy than the real thing (the real thing being McVitie's DIGRESSION ALERT: It's just struck me - 'McVitie' is presumably a surname, but I've never come across someone of that name. ), but a properly good substitute.

In a chilli and garlic stir-fry from ASDA. I'm not the best cook and I didn't know what the strips should look like when cooked, so I ended up burning it a little but it actually really nice and will be having again along with planning to try some more Quorn things.

To offset Drunka's cake baking, I ate vegetable chilli, which came from a can, and I cooked it in the microwave. I can explain: we were without a cooker for a week when the old one was ripped out, moments before the guys discovered that the new one didn't fit in its place. That meant we had to live off whatever we could cook in the microwave or with a kettle, so we did. The canned vegetable chilli was, amazingly, tasty, so I got a can for Jo... which she didn't want (it was quite hot). So I had it last night while she was working a late shift.

I remember you mentioning a cooker before, but I didn't know that was the issue! Cookers are standard sizes - give whoever fitted your kitchen cupboards a clip round the ear'ole for not leaving enough space. EDIT: I'm going to regret this, because whenever I say something like this, it was done by a deceased World War II veteran / a bunch of orphans etc. |

There did seem to be two set sizes of cookers in the shop - which was Curry's PC World Carphone Warehouse Pets At Home Halfords IKEA Paperchase - but we opted for a larger one. I was certain it would fit and yet... and yet. Still, all's well that ends well.

Of course! The cafe at the bottom of my hostel building does nice noodles and broth (though they don't list it as ramen). I had the pork one the day I arrived and the chicken tempura for lunch today. And last night I had proper full-on ramen in Shibuya, with a nice beer. I'm also definitely planning to visit the ramen museum, though it'll probably be the week after next when I'm staying in that part of Tokyo. Other than ramen, I had a nice rice bowl the first day I got to Japan and an awesome burger curry when I went exploring Akihabara on Saturday. I've also sampled the local KFC, which is weirdly soft and sweet, and the local mcdonalds, which is flavouriffic. |

I had a really nice Bento Box at Pan Asia a few months back. I've never really had much Japanese food before, although there was an excellent all you can eat place in the States when I lived there. Fortunately I've always had a knife and fork whenever I've eaten Japanese food, not at all handy with a chop stick me. Will have to practice before I one day make it there!

Figured that would seal the deal. I've heard it's a bit cold and rubbish the later you go in the day, so it'll probably be best hitting that up when it's fresh in the early afternoon or something.

Genuinely jealous now. I love poor imitation ramen, let alone the proper stuff. I too am not great with the ol' choppy sticks, mind.

I had the best food I ate in Japan in Hiroshima. It was a little okonomiyaki restaurant just off the Peace Park area. I'll pass the name on to you, boss.

Vegan pancakes. Indistinguishable from non-vegan pancakes, they were. Had squeezed orange juice and sugar on them.

On a similar note, I had a Teriyaki mac here in Japan! It was nice enough, but it made me wonder if anyone actually eats that here or if they keep it on the menu to sucker gaijin rubes.
