Super Mario Odyssey (Peach as Penelope Confirmed)

I only mean that within individual levels, things were very square and traditional. I prefer the larger worlds of 64, or the mad inventiveness of Galaxy.

That said, there were some brilliantly mad mechanics in 3D World, so I hope that doesn't change.

I think Drunka was referring to the levels rather than the actual worlds when he said, er, 'worlds'. And he's right, they were boxy, constrained, and vaguely 2.5D. While not bad games by any stretch, they always felt like they were lacking the imagination of 'proper' 3D Marios.

This is going to be brilliant for that reason, among, I'm sure, others.

This week: Mario borrows Link's rolly dash for a quicker mode of transport. Always welcome, although Mario's never been slow.

This week: Mario enjoys a surprising throwback (sorry) to his roots (sorry).  What a turnip for the books (not sorry)!

But seriously, here he is, carrying a turnip through a crystalline food land in the game you always wanted. Surprisingly empty sky though.

I would love it if Wart shows up as a boss in that world, absolutely love it!

I like the change in hue of the sky, though. That's good fun. And the chance to be a Mario who throws vegetables again is very welcome in Zero Castle.

Also, thought of this seconds ago and yet a week too late: y cant marioid crawl?

That image, of that mad coloured crystal world, was what sold me on this game. That was when I realised this definitely isn't going to be Mario-by-numbers.

It might just be me, but I'm getting weird No Man's Sky vibes from that crystalline world.

For me, that was seeing Mario leap off a New Donk City skyscraper. The realisation that we were going back to proper exploratory Mario. Happy days!
