IT'S THE FIFTH ANNUAL GNAMER FORUM AWARDS!
It begins. And it begins at the beginning, which is a very good place to start.
DIGRESSION ALERT: This is the classic Zero rambling, the likes of which I feel like I haven't indulged in for a long time. Still, eh? Still.
Anyway, I've been thinking about five for these awards.
It's the fifth GNamer Forum Annual Awards, celebrating the fifth year of the existence of this place as a community for some folks to talk about some games and anything else that's on their minds. Last year, with the rise to prominence of the Switch, we in turn had a great year. Let's celebrate that year. Let's celebrate it by handing out our first award for forumites.
The Palutena Award For Contributor Of The Year
Third place:
=gjones (1 vote)
"Mainly for the retro thread as I do love me some retro gaming and much like my games release thread I like reading something every month about retro gaming."
=JayMoyles (1 vote)
"It's been a good year for the big man."
=Muss (1 vote)
"He doesn't post anywhere near as much as some forumites, but that's because when he does pop in he's posting some high quality #content."
Second place:
=Balladeer (2 votes)
"This place wouldn't be the same without him. He pops up all over the place, usually with something interesting or humorous to tell. Whatever he posts, he's always a welcome sight."
"At over 16k posts balladeer is raising serious questions about his social life. Not that I'm complaining, he's a cool guy."
=ZeroJones (2 votes)
"Does it have to be quantity that qualifies a person for this award? I'm awarding it for quality. Zero posts in almost every thread, sure, but he does it so well. And nicely. There's no point in making fifty gazillion bobbins posts in a year, and I don't feel it should be rewarded. Instead, I'm rewarding Zero for mixing quantity with being a great poster and chap."
First place:
masofdas (4 votes)
"Volume."
"I sometimes wonder if he gets a wage for using the forum (and if that's the case where do I sign up?). A constant source of new topics."
"AKA the Masofdas award. Yer boy Pengers's release threads win this category nearly single-handedly in my book and they're a monthly delight. I've actually revisited older threads to help structure my Game of the Year thoughts. Keep it up, Mas."
My thoughts:
Our final commenter has it right, for me: The Masofdas Award. Always ready to chat games and I'm prepared to bet that his release threads take a good long while to put together. MASsive thanks (yes) to you for all the work you put into the forum. And that goes for everyone who comes here to say and do things. My unlimited love to y'all.

Can't really argue with the winner and those who placed highly; the monthly lists are always helpful.

On we roll, switching our attention to avatars. Choosing a picture to represent everything you do on the forum can be a tricky task; so much so that I've barely changed mine ever. Let's get awardin'.
The Nintendo Mii Award for Avatar of the Year
Bronze-ong:
=Drunkalilly (two votes)
[Editor's note: I feel bad for using that, because it says "drawn with left hand" in the image title!]
"Still making me smile, all these months later."
=Crumpy Andy (2 votes)
"It's growing on me, like some sort of benign fungal infection. Or just a fungal infection. I should get that checked out."
Pokémon Silver:
Muss (3 votes)
"This is one of the funniest things on GNamer."
"Muss and his Haunted flipping the bird."
Gold-een:
The_Jaster (4 votes)
"For that weird thing of his."
"Trying to pick one that's changed recently, I'd have to go for Jaster's dancing Monster Hunting Man. Am I saying that right?"
"Jas's little hopping Felyne from Monster Hunter: Look at him go!"
Bur-My thoughts:
It seems like gifs are in! A lovely winner, especially when you consider that Jas is the only one of the Monster Mash lads to actually have anything Monster Hunter-related as his avatar.

I voted for Muss' since it does make me laugh, I also thought it was a Gengar which I even googled to make sure but the internet is a dirty liar.

What's that? It's time for another award? OK, I'll just - sign off on this one.
The Shigeru Miyamoto Award For Signature Of The Year
In third place:
=Muss (one vote)
[no comment was given to accompany this]
=NintenDUCK (one vote)
"Utterly shameless. He deserves a slap - and yet, I've given him a vote! What madness is this?"
In second place:
The Cappuccino Kid (three votes)
"This still cracks me up."
"Reassuring."
In first place:
Balladeer (four votes)
"Balladeer's one about Breasts. I still don't know if it was a typo or a joke I didn't get!"
"Balladeer's, because I ruined things by not getting a joke... and it's not the first punny thing he did in 2017...."
"Balla's "savage breasts" Xenobobobob signature: Made me double take, and then chuckle."
My thoughts to your thoughts:
In my research for the running order of this year's awards I skimmed last year's thread. In it, Balla said not to make him get the puns out for his taglines in 2017 - well, I'm glad we did! John Wayne-related taglines continue to be popular around these parts, though.

Let's be honest, though: I didn't get this award for the puns, I got it for using an archaic word for 'heart' that also means boobies and confusing half the forum. Thanks for voting for me, those who did! Tune in for my tagline around awards time next year, which will just be 'TITS' in bold and size 24 font.
I voted for Ducky's. You can't beat the original, true - but the original has been around for, what, three years now?

With apologies for the delay - which has been due to personal illness - it's time to roll out the next award!
The Award For Funniest Forumite
Third:
=Balladeer (one vote)
"I genuinely can't tell when he's just being weird and Balladeer, and when he's playing it up to rustle my jimmies, and I've got to give him props for that. Also, he's pretty much single-handedly producing those puns for taglines lately."
=NintenDUCK (one vote)
"He sashayed back onto the forum at the end of the year, but he did it with some top-quality posts that made me smile."
Second:
Jimbob (3 votes)
"I've said this a few times but he's much much funnier than he gives himself credit for. Top poster on the forum too."
""Nrice". "Rice Rice Baby". It's been a good year for the big man."
First:
Drunkalilly (7 votes)
"Consistently pops up with something funny, be it a pisstake, anecdote, tagline, or drunken misadventure (normally the former). I could honestly have voted for a number of forumites here, but Drunka takes the checkered flag because he's got the volume of bantz to go along with the quality."
"It was a travesty that he didn't win last year. Out of a funny bunch of folks, he was the funniest. Super Mario Odyssey The Preview of the Game of the Book, for crying out loud."
"There's a reason Drunka's either won or been in the running for this award since we've started GNamer. The man's the king of the withering putdown and the drunken tirade. The funniest guy on GNamer for my money this year."
My heavy-cold-addled thoughts:
The Drunk Tank takes it by getting over half of the votes. You don't need a mathematician to tell you that that means they're going to be the winner! Congratulations to you, good sir - congratulations to you.

Somebody voted for me! Nobody ever thinks I'm funny on here! Seriously, that means more to me than the sig award and the contributor second place. Thank you, whoever you are (sneaking suspicion I know).
As for the award, can't argue with that - he's got some gems in this year, and my pick for thread of the year comes entirely from his deranged brain. Jimbob too, another great choice.

And the award for The Next Award To Be Awarded In The GNamer Forum Annual Awards goes to...
The Nintendo Labo Board Of The Year Award
Third Best Board:
Second Best Board:
First Best Board:
Nintendo Switch (12 votes)
Due to unanimous, I'm putting in ALL THE QUOTES. Read 'em and sleep. I mean 'weep'. I'm not tired.
"The Nintendo Switch (card)board (*cough* lame labo joke*cough*) was a much needed explosion of awesome, wasn't it?"
"Full of lively discussion, NEW GAMES, speculation, and #BaNtZ. What a time to be alive."
"A lot of credit for this goes to Nintendo for creating such a brilliant console and supporting it so well."
"GENERAL GAMING IS MINCE"
"Easy one, this one. This board has been my first stop on every visit to GNamer this year. It's been an honest treat to see this place bustling with activity and it's yet another sign in my eyes that Nintendo have nailed it with the Switch."
"Proper gaming chat came back to GNamer in 2017."
"natch."
"Kind of an obvious one, but it's the cool place to hang out"
"Holy gosh what a hive of activity that's been all year, Nintendo announced so many games and delivered so much and we lapped it up like a thirsty pack of nintendophile wolves. Awesome."
"This time round, it's the Switch board! Mainly because it exists and we all have use of it! Hooray!"
My thoughts on The Nintendo Labo Board Of The Year Award:
I nearly called this the General Gaming Discussions Board Of The Year Award, so tight has that little board's stranglehold been on this award in years past. Having said that, it was joint winner with the Switch board last year... and now has lost its place in spectacular fashion. Simply the place to be on the GNamer Forum. Well done, little friend. *ruffles hair*

This, the seventh award, is to be given out during the forty-ninth reply in this thread... and forty-nine is seven squared. A coincidence? I think not! There is some deep significance behind this, particularly in the week where Mario Kart Tour was announced, given that Mario Kart 7 was the first numbered entry in the franchise.
If you need me, I'll be in the garden shed hanging up bits of string to represent progress in my theories.

The Rome Award For GNamer Forum Event Of The Year
The Third Best GNamer Forum Event Of 2017:
The Second Best GNamer Forum Event Of 2017:
=The first Versus Mode podcast (one vote)
[no comment was provided by our voter on this one; I'd like to take this opportunity to say that I remain delighted and mildly overwhelmed that people enjoyed this]
=The Wii U Vote thread (one vote)
"Look, maybe no event will have the same impact as our visits to Newcastle, but they've won two years in a row and not everybody could make them. Everyone can, and should, take part in a GNamer voting thread. What better way to say farewell to the Wii U, than with this? Thank you Mr. Crump!"
The First Best GNamer Forum Event Of 2017:
The Meet Up (eight votes)
"The second meet up for sure, hoepfully we can plan it out better and folk can stay longer for more of the weekend."
"The big-o Meet-up - I didn't go, but I'm really glad you guys did!"
"Obviously. Good food, good company, and good games. Evil Horse though. [And when's 2018's?!?!]"
"A delight, much like last time. I think having Switches made this trip even better as we were able to play on our own screens as opposed to crowding round the Travellodge's tiny monitors. Add in some good grub, a dash of Quiplash and a nice hearty slice of humble pie for yours truly in my 1-2 Switch showdown with Zero and you've got yourself a damn fine trip."
ZeroJones's thoughts on the results of this vote:
Not quite as foregone a conclusion as the Board Award but pretty goshdurned close. The Grand Days Out are really brilliant to be a part of: playing lots of games and drinking the odd alcoholic beverage in the company of some of the coolest people on the Ninternet is a must-do experience. Jay and I are beginning to consider cooking up the 2018 Meet Up thread, y'all, so keep watching this space!
I also feel like I should apologise for making it appear that Jonathan Banks slightly shaking his head was third in this vote. Jonathan Banks is not a member of the forum... as far as I know, anyway...! *goes back to imaginary garden shed to add more thoughts to conspiracy threads*
