| Talonflame and its prevolution Fletchinder still get the wooden spoon for Pokénames (the wooden spoon being no doubt a grass-type gen. VII 'mon), which is a shame because Tallers is a pretty good fighter. Priority flying-type attacks? Don't mind if I do.
As for starters, I will agree that gen. I had the most consistent starters, even if none of them stood out. None of them were rubbish. Gen. II had the chicory hippo, III the fat memetic amphibian, IV the tortoise, V the pig (the third fire/fighting in a row), and I don't think anybody needs me to say what the hazelnut-in-chocolate of gen. VI's selection box is. Grass gets a raw deal, it seems.
Hmm... New poll time! |

| I have a softness for water types, and I'm pretty keen on Totodile/Croconaw/Feraligatr but I seem to be on my own with that one. I actually had a team in G/S/C that included the three different evolutionary phases!
After that, though, and the top-end starter evos really hit the skids. Never did like Swampert/Empoleon, but Samurott takes the turd pie. Usually I chastise Pokémon evolution trees for going down the bipedal/anthropomorphic route, but here it nonsensically went the other way and looked like a Build-a-Bear reject.
Apologies for marching in here and wandering entirely into Off Topic central. |

| I still think it looks like a sea lion that fell into a bag of pasta shells. I don't think it helps that its B/W sprite animations weren't particularly convincing. |

| I'll agree with that. It looks much better brandishing its blade in Pokédex 3D. |

And now I'll never look at Samurott in the same way again. |

And now I'll never look at Samurott in the same way again. I'm glad I painted you a vivid mental picture there, Jay. My vote is in. No prizes for guessing what it was. |

| Another Gen. 1 vote here. They're old enough to have become classic in my eyes. |

| Before I sold my pokemon cards, I only used base set and a few sets based of it. Gen 1 sucks in pokemon card terms. |

| Gen II for me. You know, I think Gen III might have been my least favourite bunch of starters. |

The shinies are very nice indeed, because they mostly feature Ken Sugimori artwork. As a set, though, the're predictably undaventurous for a first attempt. They were great fun to collect, though. Forgot about gen. III's Sceptile. I liked me some Sceptile. |

I'm the complete opposite. Not a fan of Gen II's starters, but loved Gen III. |

| I'm with Jay about 2 being naff but 3 being great. It just pips 1 because Bulbasaur is lame. |

| I love Blaziken, but can't get past Treecko and Mudkip. And Sceptile looks like it's about to overbalance at any moment.
To my intense surprise, I think that gen. VI tops my list. Granted, there's Chespin and Quilladin who are both awful, but Chesnaught's pretty well-designed and I like the other two lines as well. Of course, the more you hate humanoid Pokémon, the less you'll like the sixth-generation final evolutions. |

| Gen 2 is mine easily. It aside from gen 1 is pretty much the only time I liked all three starters, but I started with gen 2 so my fondness is with that one. |

Of course, the more you hate humanoid Pokémon, the less you'll like the sixth-generation final evolutions. I only like the first stage of the Gen VI starters. They get progressively worse as they evolve. Froakie's line is okay, but that's about it. |
