Luke Loves Pokémon (a Forumite Podcast)

Yay, squishy faces.

Playing back through a version of the Gen. 1 games, I'm not sure another pure Fighting-type was necessary, on top of the Machop line and the Hitmons.  Nonetheless, Mankey/Primeape are pretty cute for fighting types.  Their angry monkey/ape behaviour reminds me of being warned of male baboons on some holidays; male baboons will absolutely go for you if they think you're challenging them for territory.  Not sure why the pig/monkey link though.  Luke...?

For my Christmas Special, I want to do a "christmas wishlist" episode where people talk about their dream Pokemon they want to see introduced in gen 8.

Is there a new Eeveelution you'd love to see? Is there another Pokemon that deserves a new evolution or a mega? How about a real-life animal or mythical being you'd like to see brought to Poke-life?

I was always more of a Vulpix person back in the day, but Growlithe's an adorable brave pup who does its best so it's okay in my book. Arcanine gets demerit points for coming ready-evolved in Let's Go Eevee as your first ridey Pokémon, but not learning any more moves other than its four pathetic ones after you get it. No Extremespeed, no Crunch, no Flare Blitz, nuttin'. Boo.

I do like Growlithe and Arcanine that I was tempted when I got Arcanine in Let's Go to go for a complete Fireteam.

The Poliwag line has a few interesting things going for it.  I'm sure you've already covered the reasoning behind the spiral, and the fact that a tadpole Pokémon doesn't become a frog until Gen. 2.  The other thing that caught me is Poliwrath's Water/Fighting type, which remained unique until a legendary in Gen. 5.  Playing back through Let's Go, Water/Fighting felt like a unique and interesting typing, when there were no other dual-type fighting types.  For this reason alone, the bigger buffer Poliwhirl deserves a doff of the hat.

Do you recommend that I hold off on listening to the special until I've played Let's Go or is it still a fine listen without having played it?

It's not a game that can particularly be spoiled if you've played Red, Blue or Yellow and even then we don't really spoil anything, so I'd say go for it.

Growlithe's Andyman moment wasn't quite up there with his best, but I think that just shows the high bar he's set.  He's what really makes the podcast. Rename it to Andy Loves Pokémon, you'd get more fans.

I've just edited a version with your volume turned up, which I'll upload later.

I've no idea what's wrong - might need to tinker with my Audacity settings as it's never been this bad before.

You sound fine now, you just needed cranking up a little. If I hadn't edited in such a hurry, it would never have been an issue.

Being up in the countryside and constantly with family/playing Smash means I haven't had much time for podcasts.  Will definitely get around to it next week though!
