I've never gotten along with that theme. I mean, I can hear that it's going for the "epic" feel, but it just seems too calm for my tastes.

I did feel that it was (unintentionally) carrying on the theme! It's definitely a "sweeping scale" piece, rather than a "go go go!" piece. Anyway, the Thwomp Volcano tune may be more your sort of thing.

GNamer's Sweet and Simple Music Week 76: Tomorrow Hill, Wario Ware: Smooth Moves: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpGXbwd-X9k
This is a surprisingly sweet track from a game not usually known for them, as unlike the entirely bonkers equivalent from Touched! as possible. I'm not usually a fan of a music with lyrics, especially not such saccharine ones; but you don't really hear them when you're concentrating on pulling "The Mohawk", so you just get a general feeling of calming music.
And while we're on this game, I really should include the Jimmy T. cinemcatics. If you don't either watch the microgames or skip to 4:30 when they start, you'll miss out on the Feline Wave. You don't want that. The Feline Wave is great.

I wished they'd tried a little harder to translate the words from Japanese to English, but it's still on my iPod.

This however is awesome. They totally ruined it in Smash Bros.

The stresses don't match up with the music, but in a way, that's part of its charm. Yay Japlish!

GNamer's Music Week on the Wings of a Puzzle 77: Drones, Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy: www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAIV9H-uNPA
Don't worry, this is relatively spoiler-free. It happens in one of the early sequences in the game, where... I won't spoil it, but it's as epic as anything the Professor has done. Well, perhaps not quite on the level of fighting a twenty-storey robot, but you get my drift.
This game is my pick of the Layton bunch, and it's not afraid to pile on the emotion at the end. The ending song (Japanese version) reflects this ably. Oh, and it's actually effective, rather than killing off a Lapras knock-off you've known for about fifteen minutes and expecting tears.

Please cast aside any distaste for Sonic for a moment and give this a listen (from both versions of Sonic: Lost World, first Zone):

This really is a lovely little ditty, and it sticks in my head for hours after I've heard it. Great stuff.

(momentarily suppresses burning hatred) That's lovely stuff, Stu! My sort of thing, especially 0:11-0:20. Folksy violin over a metal backing track. Could maybe have done with a bit less cymbal once it hits the "chorus" (at 0:53), but that's the scummy blue rat's soundtracks for you. (Sorry, it bubbled up again.)
Anyway, maybe it's a bit early (or perhaps even a bit late), but since I'm in the thread:
GNamer's Vaguely Christmassy Music Week 78: Snowman, Mother: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1sCzZkUfGeA
A haunting track that has appeared throughout the series. This is where it began: it then slowed down significantly in Earthbound, ramped up the harmony in Mother 3, and finally hired a choir for its intro in Smash Bros. Brawl. Perhaps a bit too lonely-sounding for a Christmas piece, it perfectly embodies the feeling of forlorn despair as the last cold turkey sandwich is eaten, decorations get put away, and returning to work looms ever closer. Merry Christmas everybody!
I have a question for the forum: what are your favourite pieces of music from (Nintendo-console) videogames released in 2013? Or videogames you played for the first time in 2013? Or even ones you replayed in 2013. I'll post my five favourites from new releases next week, but it would be good to hear other peoples'!

Whilst I didn't own the game, I did find myself listening to Animal Crossing: New Leaf's lovely soundtrack, in particular - 7pm.

The main two that spring to mind are the aforementioned Sonic piece, one of the main themes for Super Mario 3D World: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dI8slLrX0kA, and of course Castle Rock from Rayman Legends: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-qmb2VxGbw. The kazoo makes me grin every single time.
I'd list a few more, but with Animal Crossing dominating my life this year, it's been six months since I took a new game seriously, and I can't bring any more to mind.

I don't even remember that one. I've beaten the monk and the sadist, so I must have come across it, but... meh.
I can't remember any of New Leaf's tunes now. It's been a while since I've played it, but you'd hope that at least one would worm its way into my head. Well, I can remember the island tune, but that wasn't much good.
I'd prefer "Castle Rock" if it didn't have the random banjo interlude which, as far as I'm aware, bears no resemblance at all to the original. (Although now that I've re-listened to the original, it just repeats the verse at that point, and is rather dull.)

Please do! Also, it's nice to have the Milk Bar pieces in one piece, without (as a commenter on the first video says) having to pay for the privilege. Zelda's Lullaby is particularly charming.

That has me bouncing in my chair as I type. I love the M&L soundtracks, but sadly don't remember much of DTB's due to never finishing it. Sniff.
It had a brilliant title theme, though

It does make for one of the best file select themes, along with SM64. "Doo-dee-dee doo dee doo..."
GNamer's Music Year 2013: Balladeer's Tunes of the Year
These may not be the absolute best tunes in the games I mention, but they stood out the most for me in 2013. Here we go!
5. Route 15, Pokémon X/Y: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQ8iSAoxwiA
Starts off like something out of a horror film (appropriate given all the ghosts around), then swells out into epic exploration music.
Everyone knows Castle Rock, as posted above by Stu, but this one stuck in my mind more. It's Eye de los Tigres: what more do you want? (Answer to that revealed in a later week.)
3. Lorule Theme, The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VQyaNCn7Yc
IT'S THE DARK WORLD THEME AGAIN YAAAAAAAY. Lacking epic, you say? Try its second version on for size (possible musical spoilers).
2. The Won-Stoppable Wonderful 100, The Wonderful 101: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1Y_bGyck1E
The only piece of 2013 I haven't heard in-game, but when Buskalilly linked this to me, I absolutely loved it. Oh, and there's a 101 version too. I don't like it as much.
a.k.a. Objection 2004 orchestrated. Who cares? It sounds bloody amazing.
Honourable mentions go to Gloomy Manor from Luigi's Mansion 2 and THAT theme from Super Mario 3D World. And from a couple of games I played for the first time this year: Cornered 2001 from the original Ace Attornery, the piece where it all goes to hell from Apollo Justice, and OUTER GODDAMN RINGS from Kirby's Epic Yarn.
That's a rap from 2013. Music weeks continue as normal from next weekend!

For me nothing stands out more than the music from A link Between worlds as well as it being my favourite dungeon in the game I absolutely love the Ice Ruins theme.

Most memorable, certainly. Best? Hmm...
ALBW had a fantastic soundtrack, and I love the way they remixed the standard dungeon theme for every dungeon. I agree with you about it being the best dungeon, too - perhaps just because it was the most substantial?
