Following on from the "What's new?" thread: talking on the 'phone. Where's the facial expression and body language so that I can tell how you're feeling? And why are you crackling so... hello? Hello?

Aye, hate having to make phone calls as well.

I don't mind phonecalls as such, but I *do* dislike interrupting people with them.

To rob the brilliant point Steven Fry made on QI once- if you stormed into someone's office and kept banging on their desk while saying "I will stand here and make noise until you pay attention to me" they'd quite rightly lock you away- yet calling someone on the phone is the exact same thing and is absolutely fine.

Hate phones too, to the point where my teenaged self would ask my mother to pretend I wasn't in if one of my pals called. Things like where you both ask "How are you?" at the same time and then both respond with "I'm very well, and you?" really throw me.

One evening when I was about 14, my piano teacher called to re-arrange a lesson and I picked up the phone for some reason, where I usually ignored it. Then when he asked to speak to me, instead of saying, "Yes it's me!" like a normal human being, I put on a posh English accent and said, "Hold on a moment, I'll just check for you." Then started calling my own name in this ridiculous accent (I even put on a vibrato) and eventually came back to the phone, telling my poor bewildered piano teacher that I wasn't in. I am such a weirdo.

That's better than having to go "yeah, speaking" or "yeah this is [redacted] "

I kinda hate it when you call someone on a mobile/cell or what ever you lot call it and they answer with "Hello this is ..... speaking"

Well 1 I would hope so as I've called you heaps of times and 2 well I wasn't now was I?

Also, fruit tea. It smells lovely and then tastes disappointingly like hot water. And yet I still drink it, because it's a decaffeinated hot drink that isn't cloying.

That period of time between 'going to bed' and 'actually getting to sleep' where your head fills with crap you'd rather not think about.

+1. Although for me, it's less the crap I think about and more the fact that I'm losing precious sleep time.

I love being in bed just before sleep! I get all warm and snuggly and fantasize about Batman coming round and choosing me to help him and then I drift off to sleep . . .

"Just before" is fine. It's when you've been lying in bed for (half-)hours with various distracting thoughts flying around in your head. Maybe I should try fantasising about Batman...

at Andyman's edit. I'm the same as your original post: I ponder the game I've just played for too long before going to sleep.

Anyway, with sunny weather come the asshats pumping out "bangin' choons" from their open car windows. My one consolation is that, as I don't/can't drive, I don't get stuck in traffic with one of these morons right behind me.

TV doesn't make me think too much fortunately, that's why I always stop playing games an hour before I even try to sleep.
