| No, Jas. No it's not. And that's week 3! Close enough, anyway. 13 votes this week, up another one from last week! Thank you all, including the one person who only sent in dishonourable mentions. Here we go: Fifth place:- Spoiler:
Link's Crossbow TrainingPoints: 9 First places: 1 You say: " Link's Crossbow Training would've made a wonderful bonus mode in Twilight Princess, but as it stands, I can see this game being fun in multiplayer, and a decent enough distraction for a solo player with a few minutes going spare for a quick session. It's extremely short, but getting the gold crests will take plenty of practice, and it is fun to go on a quick sightseeing tour of TP's Hyrule." "...I was glad I bought it [the Wii Zapper] for this game. It may not have seen much play but it was fun whilst it lasted." I say: Well it's ugly as sin, just like the game that spawned it; but that game was pretty good, so I'm not surprised that this is too. Albeit on a lesser scale. Fourth place:- Spoiler:
Geometry Wars GalaxiesPoints: 14 First places: 1 You say: "...Galaxies was a stark improvement over the original. Some great frenetic shooting going on in this." "Awesome game that I'd never have gotten into if it were not for NGamer. Simple and clever but very difficult." I say: I must confess that I own this, played the first level, and then never played it again. And that's a shame, because I enjoyed that first level... just not enought to re-insert the disc. As such, I felt I could only give this my third place, leaving my second empty. Maybe some day... (He says, not very convincingly.) Third place:- Spoiler:
Red SteelPoints: 18 First places: 1 You say: "I really, really liked it. I thought it was zany brilliance. I agreed with Matthew... although I do think the controls could have been tighter." "A game which highlighted the effectiveness of the Wii remote on a shooting game level, it may no longer be up to scratch but it was a great use of the original software." I say: Fifth on my list, I picked it up at launch like many and had a few hours blasting stuff. It was reasonably fun. Apparently superseded by its sequel, by that time I was convinced that I'd never enjoy another shooter - a feeling only enhanced by... Second place:- Spoiler:
Resident Evil 4Points: 22 First places: 3 You say: "The best version of one of the (supposed) best games of all time. While I feel that’s a bit dramatic I do agree that it’s quite good." "In my eyes the best Resident evil to date. Great difficulty and atmosphere, the shooting was a highlight, ill never forget shooting religious cult members in the knee in order to do a SUPLEX!!! (and then going home to play the game )" I say: Played it once. Got taken out by villagers. Traded it in. Yeah, I don't like shooters much. Our Wiikly Winner:- Spoiler:
Chicken ShootPoints: ∞ First places: ∞ ...Sorry Jay, I can't go through with this. Sin & Punishment: Successor of the SkiesPoints: 27 First places: 4 You say: "Takes all that is great about the 64 version and builds on it, the controls work so well with the wiimote great Japanese soundtrack and graphics that stand up to be some of the best on the console." "...developed by Treasure what else is there to say?" "A phenomenal Wii-exclusive and as pure as gaming can get." "1: Sin & Punishment: SotS 2: Sin & Punishment: SotS 3: Sin & Punishment: SotS 4: Sin & Punishment: SotS" I say: Remember when I said that I don't like shooters much? That was a lie: I don't like most shooters much. I loved this, even though it was still too hard for me on Normal (bloody level 6). Like three other people, I gave this a first-place vote: apart from its storyline being anime as anything, the firefighting action was frantic and responsive, the boss battles just the right level of crazy, and the game in general was spectacular. A worthy winner, and (unlike last week) utterly unsurprising. Honourable Mentions: - Spoiler:
Bit.Trip Void, Blast Works: Build Trade Destroy, Cod Blops, Castle of Shikigami III, Chicken Shoot (no, really), Dead Space Extraction, Eledees (my fourth place), GoldenEye 007, House of the Dead: Overkill, Metal Slug Anthology, Onslaught, Red Steel 2, Scarface: the World is Yours Dishonourable Mentions: - Spoiler:
- Chicken Shoot: " It's shite. We all know it's shite. I've played flash games that are better than it. I've just not played any other Wii shooters bar these 4, and I'd like to see our list celebrate the good, the bad, and the motherclucking ugly."
- GoldenEye 007: "I won it in a competition by a certain closed much-loves magazine. But it was still shit."
"Not a patch on the original... or my memories of the original, at least."
- Realistic shooters: "I like playing CoD from time to time, but the Wii versions are no good. Part motion controls, part poor graphics make the games near unplayable to me. When I found out that Goldeneye could be played with classic control I jumped at the chance, but the graphics meant I was often struggling to pick out enemy from background."
- Resident Evil 4: "I love the game, I really do but the motion controls almost made me miss out on a series I now love. If I hadn't have taken a punt on a cheap copy of Resi 5 I would have missed out on so many hours of fun with 4,5 and 6 and I blame it all on the controls, I couldn't shoot anything because the tension made my shooting go to hell and so I just died and had no fun. I later played it on PS3 and it's probably my favourite in the series."
- Sin and Punishment: Successor of the Skies: "I'd heard good things about it so I put my lack of care for the original behind me on the grounds it was in Japanese and had no idea what was going on. I got this game and I still did not get it. There felt like no point in shooting enemies most of the time. The shooting wasn't very fun and the story still made little sense. Kid Icarus showed how a game like this can be fun so it must just be that this is overrated and naff right?"
- The Wii Zapper: "I could waste time complaining that the Wii Zapper is the biggest waste of plastic since Katie Price..."
"The reason I bought the pointless Zapper was for Resident Evil 4, which it didn't really work with it..."
And that's a wrap! Complain about the votes for Week 3, or how you don't have any votes for Week 4!

| Devastated Onslaught rated below Sin and Punishment and the terrible Wii version of Resi 4

| For a brief but glorious moment, I genuinely thought Chicken Shoot had won.
A good list despite Chicken Shoot being robbed. I've never played Sin and Punishment 2, but I thoroughly enjoyed the first so I suppose after GNamer's glowing recommendation I really ought to pick it up sometime. |

| Another entertaining week. It's particularly amusing that you just know whose statement is whose. Now, I'm taking it that I probably should go and play Sin & Punishment 2, yes? |

| I thought res 4 would win easily, who ever likes res 5 & 6 I'm sending nemesis round to sort you. I now need to look up this onslaught though. |

| S&P2's amazing, Andy. Deal with it. Okay chaps, Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz. The others I'd definitely have put as puzzle or miscellaneous, but this puts more emphasis on its (pretty shoddy) minigames. Thoughts? |

| I've never played it, though it still has the full single-player campaign, does it not? |

| I've not played it, but I've heard it's still got the full single-player campaign which isn't minigame oriented like the single player experiences of WarioWare or Mario Party. |

| Yeah it's a puzzler first. Nothing wrong with Resi 5 and 6 masofdas at least you don't have to point a hard enough to aim laser at the best of times constantly. |

Grah, fine. Like MP3, the only real reason I'm trying to have it re-classed is because it pissed me right off. The story mode structure, and the bosses, and all that... I couldn't do the originals, but that was because they were hard, not just annoying. And the minigames were largely rubbish. Whatever, puzzler it is. (storms off in a huff) |

| I rather enjoyed Banana Blitz back in the day, though it was my first Monkey Ball so if I went back to it now my memories may not be so fond.
I can't get in to the old resi's personally, 5 feels barely different to 4 to me and 6 is more like Dead Space, which I also like so that's fine by me. Wouldn't say they were generic though. |

| I completely forgot I played Geometry Wars and Goldeneye, also Batallion Wars would have counted too, but anyway, wouldn't have made much difference to the rankings. |

| So it isn't just me who plays "I wonder who said that?" not many of my picks made it, red steel 2 should've ousted the original in my opinion but I can see why some chose it. @treesmurf The cube version of BW is better. |

I'd have put that under "other", because the one time I played it, it seemed more like an RTS. So there is still hope! |

| im going to contintue talking about resident evil, sorry guys. but 5 is nothing like 4, 4 is much slower and leans more towards the action adeventure genre (where it should of been not shooters) and 5 leans a lot towrads a TPS also one arguabally one of the greatest games of all time up there with ocarina, metal gear solid, mario 64 etc the other not a bad TPS but surely would be on most peoples list of most dissapointing sequals. i dont no how old you are @andyman949 but you not liking proper resident evils might be a age thing my 1st biohazard i played was the 1st on the saturn, i no my neighbour is 17 his 1dt resident evil was 5 and loved it, i leant him number 2 on ps1 and he hated, and was like how did they mange to get 5 games the 2nd was so crap who the hell bought it. and to be clear im a big resident evil fan ive played every single one nearly aprt from the racoon city one. |

| Can I suggest a separate Resi thread? Especially[ if you're going to talk about games which have never appeared on a Nintendo format, let alone the Wii. |

| Will do balla, actually a few big series haven't got there own topic ala final fantasy. Also the wii does have 5 resident evil game's on it and other Nintendo systems have had a few over the years. |

| Red Steel in third. Bloody hell, lads. ~ - Balladeer wrote:

That's even crazier than having Red Steel third in a shooters list. Puzzle games test your reflexes, concentration and intelligence in a confined area, whereas Super Monkey Ball demands that you explore and conquer grand environments like a platformer. Banana Blitz, Step & Roll and the others share a lot of the same values as the likes of Galaxy, Sonic Colours and the rest. Puyo Puyo and Tetris are puzzlers, Super Monkey Ball - particularly Banana Blitz - isn't! I think we need to divide game genres with Wikipedia again, as we did a few weeks back. |

| It's a double post, and I apologise for that, but this GameTrailers video might conjure up some conversation: it's a top ten countdown of the unsung heroes of Wii. Might give you a few ideas about voting in this thread:
http://www.gametrailers.com/videos/4o4kjn/gt-countdown-10-wii-underdogs-for-your-wii-u
Wii was brilliant, wasn't it?
~
(Ignore the 'Wii U has no games' mince at the start. If you've already completed Lego City Undercover as the video claims, then you should be put in jail for being sad). |

| I can't look at videos at work: will check that out when I get home. But yes, yes it was. (GC was still better though. ) In the meantime, anyone else care to weigh in on SMB:BB for future weeks? I'll agree that a jump button moves it closer to platformer territory than its forebears. (I hated it, so I'm probably not the best person to judge.) Or alternatively, Punch Out! on the Wii - puzzle or sports? Wikipedia is irritatingly vague on both, sadly. |

| I mean this in the nicest way, but...are you taking the mick? Punch-Out!! emphasises the beat 'em up genre for me; the point of the game is to defeat opponents while avoiding as much damage as you can. In ways, it's perhaps the most pure beat 'em up on Wii.
As for Monkey Ball: what else is it other than a platformer? Show me a puzzle in a Monkey Ball game. (Not that it matters that much anyway. It's a good game, but not really amongst the Wii's elite platformers, and likely doesn't stand a snowball's chance of a vote, let alone a top five placing).
~
I'm quite tempted to type out what I feel is a brief definition of each genre, but that would make me out to be an arse.

Yes the more I think about it the less I can disagree. It is quite clearly a beat'em up in the premise of a fantasy boxing league. The attack pattersn etc you have to learn for each opponent are pretty similar to all end of boss fights in other games. |
