RIP Alan Rickman - properly awful news. 2016, I need to have a word.

Alan Rickman's presence could make a crap film lovable. A real talent and, by all accounts, a wonderful man. 2016 looks like it wants to beat 2015 for killing heroes of mine.

2016 sucks so far.

I've not seen Alan Rickman in much besides Die Hard and Harry Potter, but after seeing him in that role, I can't imagine anyone else as Professor Snape. RIP, good sir.

He's also amazing in Galaxy Quest, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and Love Actually.

Sir Terry put such an entertaining spin on Eurovision during his tenure there. Sad to see him go.

I've not really watched Eurovision since Terry left. His attitude was perfect, and he knew everyone was laughing along with him.

Let me preface this by saying that we, as a species, still have a long way to go in order to beat this disease but.

Thisis some really great looking news in the fight against cancer.

A 90% remission rate in those who were previously terminally ill with blood cancer. Remarkable stuff that we can hopefully build upon and translate to other cancers in the future.

I automatically head for scepticism in such matters, but this does look like genuinely great news! It's got to stay as a last-ditch treatment for now, since the people it didn't cure got worse; and it's only been tested on blood cancer so far. Still, progress!

What with this and the black hole gravity thing, 2016 is shaping up to be a good year for science (albeit a bad one for celebrities).

With the state of the news media today, skepticism is always the correct default position and it is a real shame that I feel like after reading an article I need to do a little more digging because I'm never sure if I can trust it - even with the BBC.

I must have missed the black hole gravity thing, I'll have to look it up!

Happy to see any progress of any kind with any cancer. It also sounds like the data needs to be shared - get on that, team!

According to Facebook's news feed, which persists in telling me about celebrities who have their arms around people even after I've said I'm not interested, Rupert Murdoch has just got married. I don't know about anyone else, but the idea of that creature doing sex with anyone else turns my stomach. And not even because he's well into his eighties.

In fact, the idea of that creature still existing turns my stomach.

I'm imagining that Drunka is giggling and rubbing his hands over all of these reveals from the Mossack Fonseca leak. No American companies or individuals revealed so far though. While Putin and the Russian regime are obviously a bit paranoid to say that only they are being targeted, it does feel a bit like the ICIJ is protecting its capitalist American owners...

It's just too bad none of the people skimping money from our two countries will ever actually pay.

I'm not optimistic enough to hope for that, but I am happy that this practice has been brought to light. Without concrete proof that this sort of thing is happening, nothing will get discussed or done. At the moment I'm happy with "discussed", and hope it will lead to greater things.
