| Judging from what Iwata and Miyamoto have been saying, about a platform with shared architecture. I don't think it's particularly farfetched to expect a powerful handheld from Nintendo. To accomplish what they want, they'd have to use the latest and greatest in the mobile space, so an ARM-based CPU likely paired with a PowerVR GPU. My nearly two-year old iPhone 5s can play Disney Infinity 2.0 with visuals rivalling the Wii U version, it has a GPU that is a generation ahead of the PS Vita, and a CPU that's two generations ahead of the Vita and faster than PS4/One.
Nintendo was apparently accepting pitches from PowerVR (who make the graphics in the iPad/iPhone and Vita) so I could see the next generation of PowerVR chips making it into Nintendo next gen handheld, providing a sizeable leap above Wii U. The iPad Air 2 is already a monster for that.
All that aside, though, Nintendo will almost certain specialise with some sort of 'hook', that'll ensure their platform is sufficiently differentiated while still able to receive ports from other platforms.
A larger screen is certainly a must, I actually think Vita's display is too small. 3DS XL is different since it's a bigger version of the 3DS screen, and developers design around that 3.5" display, but in the case of Vita, developers tend to take games made for a big, HDTV and scale it down, resulting in tiny text and interfaces. Again, Nintendo will have to come up with some ways around that, but I honestly think the iPad's display is amazing for games.
I can see Nintendo releasing two handhelds in due course, but those handhelds will be able to offer up differing experiences of the same game, like iPhone and iPad, or maybe some games will only release on one or the other. Strategy games like Frozen Synapse and Pokemon TCG tend to only see release on iPad, not iPhone, because you really do need the extra real estate of the 9.7" display.
None of the above assumes that the games on Nintendo Next Gen Handheld would be console ports either. Storage space is still at a premium in portable devices, and most console games are biiiiiig in size. |

| What Fronk said on what could be done with a hybrid but that's not what I come to this thread for but with no Zelda at E3 and Nintendo saying it will be 2015 games at the show.
Is it going to actually be any good as a lot like Splatoon will be out and it's unlikely there going to announce something like a new metroid there to also come out this year.
So what is there bar more XCX & Star Fox to really show & what's the big holiday game is it XCX.
(Was going to make a E3 thread but thought it might be a bit to early) |

| Nintendo are masters at the surprise announcement, also retro studios have obviously been working on something secretly for a while so surely that will be there. |

| Forgotten Memories, has been announced for the Wii U (iOS version the trailer) which will get ungraded graphics and gameplay use in the U version.
Looks like Survival Horror will be well represented on the U this year with Forgotten Memories, Fatal Frame V / Project Zero V and Bizerta: Silent Evil that U finally might get a decent Survival Horror in the West. |

| Bad News it seems for Project Cars on Wii U. Which is disappointing as when it was being crowd funded and Wii U being the most wanted console fro this to be on. |

| That just a poor excuse in my eyes and I feel bad for the folk who backed it, sounds like they're afraid of a bit of extra/hard work to get it up and running to a decent standard. |

| Only thing is that hard work worth the event, you only need to look at sales of Most Wanted to know that the answer is no. |

| I assume you meant effort there, so if it was all about sales for them then why put the wii U as an option in the first place? Also wouldn't most backers feel betrayed if this game was delayed even further so it could come to another Nintendo system?
I know I would feel that way because they have promised something by a certain time and have failed to deliver it, not sure how kickstarter etc works but if I was a backer in this situation I'd want my money back.
(side note: As a games designer you should know the limits of your project and the limits of the systems you are working on, so it should have been apparent to them quite early if it'd work or not) |

| I did mean that, I'm using my phone whilst at work.
It wasn't done via kickstarter but there own site I think which had a poll asking which system you wanted it on.
Then Namco step in as a publisher and last gen dropped due to issues getting it running.
So wasn't much of a surprise no U, on getting money back I know on kickstarter you can't. Your donating money to projects and taking the risk. |

| So was it crowd funded or not? Anyhow they didn't completely say no to a wii U release just that they're having issues running the game at a stable fps, so my point in my side note above still applies. |

| Yes and No, it was crowd funded to start with but then Namco decided to publish it. Kinda like how Bloodstained is on Kickstarter at the moment but they have said they have publisher as well.
I get your point and totally agree, they said there would be a U version but they also said there be a PS3, 360 version which it wouldn't run on. There's even issues with the ONE version. But they should of known all this but if they made the game run on 360 perfectly for instance then that wouldn't really be there vision of making the best racing sim around.
Talk to my friend at work who's working on Wii U game and how the U works from a dev point, he thinks if it were to come it be 30fps 720p at best with some bit's cut as well.
So if it does come, U owners likely have to pay £40 for a late crappy version of it. That waiting to see what the NX is might be the best option and have it as launch title, if NX is a console. |

| I didn't compare art style with harvest moon and rune factory because it's all down towards the actual game play which is better and what worked for me my time towards. I personally love the atmosphere and fantasy setting of Rune Factory over Harvest Moon, the dungeon crawling changes the pace, changes the ways to get ingredients & materials to craft, advances the story, the relationships building and gives purpose to the game play. Harvest moon is good for newable players to see if it's that kind of game to play and would recommend it towards kids/teen too! like I did in the beginning of trying for the first time, Rune factory is in the top scores for all these reasons and the art style is beautiful. Did get Rune factory on the PS3 so I think I've got all of them now :O can't wait to play this version! This game will keep me busy and Rune Factory 4 until there is a Wii U version or PS4 in the future beyond |

| You might of seen already but after the direct thing Nintendo sent out a picture of the road map of both systems, the 3DS's looks good and we know there's stuff from JPN, Mini & E3 Directs coming for it.
The Wii U on the other hand looks like this (this is for the yanks but you get the idea) in order of release Super Mario Maker Skylanders Superchargers Disney Infinty 3.0 LEGO Dimensions Yoshi Woolly World Just Dance 2016, Guitar Hero Live Star Fox Zero Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival Mario Tennis Ultra Smash Xenoblade Chronicles X Genei Ibun Roku #FE aka SMT x FE AKA Persona x FE Cosplay AKA Waifu x FE Zelda U
With more to be announced, we know Fatal Frame is coming this fall for the yanks and Project Treasure is in the works also one of the Projects not sure which one out of Robot & Guard is still a thing and Platinum is working on it apparently.
So what do you think of Wii U's line up coming

| Well - there's been a lot of negativity following E3, about e.g. how much we already knew about. You gotta remember that Nintendo have to do most of this shit by themselves now. Their recent track record has been hella good, so just be patitent... and accept that you'll probably need a second system alongside the WiiU to play all the vidgamz. |

| It looks fine for a console that's wrapping up. Better than fine with Zelda U still there. I'm still hoping against hope for a proper 3D Mario.
I've said it before, but I feel that the Wii U will be much more fondly remembered after its time, like the Gamecube before it. |

| I agree it's not bad but as a Nintendo fan I don't really own a Wii U for likes of Guitar Hero or Just Dance (I know do and I'm actually thinking about stopping collecting Wii U) that's there still about 10 games there plus indies but it could be so much better if it's was a actual Animal Crossing for instance. |

That's a shame. I've been told by quite a few of my mates that it's really good. Then again, if the Wii U isn't up to scratch then perhaps it's no bad thing that we don't wind up with another dodgy port, like Watch_Dogs, Batman Arkham Origins and that old Sniper Elite game supposedly are. |

I wouldn't be too concerned about missing out on Project Cars - I've heard it runs like shite. |
