- There's an interesting research thread on NeoGAF showing that the UK is by far the worst market for Nintendo games in Europe. This explains why Knack can outsell 3D World here 2 weeks running.
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=734333 It is interesting, save for the fact that it contains people unironically using the term 'dudebro'. To contribute a little more, the OP suggests that retail could sell download cards, forgetting that Game are doing that. (Which is odd, as they're the ones most at risk of cannibalisation from them) Somewhere in the thread, the lack of western support comes up and that's certainly a factor. I've had this theory for a while that anime and manga do much better on the continent because everyone's already used to subtitles and shoddy dubs from British and American shows that doing it again with Japanese stuff is normal, (or at least less abnormal than it is here) and that makes the market a much easier one to enter for a Japanese-flavoured game, which would explain why Germany's Top 50 looks the way it does. I do think the discussion needs more about the respective cultures more broadly surrounding games- Germany is often cited as some kind of Promised Land for the point and click fan yet there isn't a single one in that top fifty, suggesting that either a/ the reports are overblown, or b/ the German market is broader and flatter than the UK market meaning that it's easier for a game to survive outside of the Top XYZ (so Bravely Default isn't selling brilliantly in Germany, it's just that nothing else is either, relatively speaking). Also, does Germany have the almost Second Amendment-like devotion to the used market like the US and the UK does? Outside of any discussion about what effect that may or may not have towards sales of new games, if they're not (as) into it then that discounts a huge market that is really 'invisible' to the UK chart compilers. |

| This thread needs more good news.
http://mynintendonews.com/2013/12/13/nintendo-renews-trademark-for-metroid-prime/
I almost screamed like a girl reading this. Behind Twilight Princess Metroid Prime was my favorite GC game. Hopefully this implies a HD remake or sequel. I doubt they'd renew this of all things for nothing. |

It wouldn't be surprising if a Metroid game was afoot. (Probably for 3DS, but still.) Reggie wore that badge at VGX, after all. |

| I agree with you, in fact (as my predictions for next year will show!). But I don't feel that this specific action particularly supports it. The badge is a bigger clue. |

| In the US, Nintendo is rewarding select early adopters of the Wii U with a $40 Pizza Hut voucher. This is amusing, because Reggie worked for Pizza Hut before he moved to Nintendo. He probably still has connections there. Note: There is a troll going round, pretending that this is the new Ambassador Programme and every Wii U owner will get a $100 voucher. This isn't real. The $40 vouchers are, however.

| Yum Pizza,
About the chart thing,
1. Germany has been biggest European market for years, so not surprised about the sells.
2. Germany have censorship on game's, nearly all my 360 collection went there when I sold it on eBay. So the lack of realistic shooty bang bang and that, maybe there prefer buying Nintendo stuff as there will be no issues of red blood.
3. UK's buying habits are closer to USA market, just look at how the 360 sold here compared to the rest of Europe.
4. Also they did bring up PS4 supply was limited there, Sony will win Mainland Europe like past gens. UK is so-so like the states, hence why supply has been better here compared to the rest of EU and why there's more PS4 games in our chart. |

| Super Mario 3D World is in 29th nothing really to shout about and Knack is 31st or something like that. So not much in it in chart places. |

| It's more of a moral victory, to be honest. Being part of a bundle for what I understand is a pretty popular console, Knack was always going to outdo SM3DW, even if only for a little while. |

| Thank goodness 3D World outsold Knack. I played the latter in GAME last week and it really is as dire as the critics have said. Ugh. As Ballyzero mentioned, this is more a victory on principle than anything else, Knack simply didn't deserve to sell more.
It's quite depressing that when Nintendo don't break into the mass market, their systems aren't all that popular in the UK when compared to the US in relative terms (speaking absolute solid numbers would be unfair without including the rest of Europe). Wii U seems to be doing as well as Vita over here where it's doing much better relatively in the US, as is the same story for its software (Mario 3D World had a successful launch in America), and 3DS isn't setting the software sales charts alight, only recently matching the other last-gen formats for software sales here. |

| Looking at the advert, if I'd paid £55 for Knack I would definitely book myself in for a doctor's appointment. |

| I've been thinking for a while that that's the way Nintendo will intend on filling up the post-Christmas release schedule. Surely N64, GBA, or PC Engine (or maybe even all of them) can't be far off the Wii U Virtual Console now, can they? It's going to be all about the eShop for the next few months. I'd welcome it - 60hz Mario Kart 64 on the Gamepad would absolutely piss all over anything else going. |

Can't see that exact example happening considering MK8 will probably be a focus in today's show, but that's probably not a bad guess. |

| The US/UK difference has been the same throughout Nintendo's history, though. Didn't Mega Drive outsell SNES here? |
