Damn it, how did he find us out? I'm starting to think you just had really awful maths teachers at school.

My maths teacher at high school just slowly gave up across the course of a term and ended up finishing out the term by putting old episodes of The Simpsons on for us to watch during class, so I can't complain.
On topic, this has been preordered as outlined by my ShopTo despair in the other thread so I'll be game for some online multiplayer sessions with you lot. For those that have played this before, would you recommend I rock through this solo before hopping online or go back to it solo to better appreciate the levels after some multiplayer chaos?

After the revelation that I completed this multiplayer before I did single player I'd say there's no harm in playing with others first or alongside as I loved it on the Wii U, fingers crossed the online actually works after Mario Maker 2.

I didn't play multiplayer, but the courses felt designed for it: a bit wide and unfocussed for single-player in my opinion (while still being fun enough). Based on that somewhat ignorant view, I'd definitely say that you can play multiplayer first if you want and probably get the better experience!

I didn't love Maths at school but I didn't hate it. It's in more recent years that I just hate any conversation which looks at the numbers instead of the feelings when the subject is art of any kind.

I personally rate The Starry Night a 7/10, which is better than Mona Lisa but nowhere near the giddy heights of Guernica.

Beethoven's 9th Symphony is 9 fifths better than his 5th Symphony though...
(it isn't, this is a joke I don't even understand)
I'm probably going to have to get this, aren't I? Because it's got new Mario in it? Goddammit, if it was just a port I would've left it...

That is a genuine concern, actually. I've not a lot of faith in Nintendo's online infrastructure after somewhat shonky experiences with SSBU and Splatoon 2...

I had nothing but joy with Spla2n, ARMS and Mario Kart so it could go either way.

Same, never tried Mario Maker which was famously bad for it but all of the above have mostly been good for me so I'm daring to be a little optimistic, there is the worry that it could be that Mario games just don't work well online.

This preview said the online held up pretty well so here's hoping that is the case for the full release.

Out today! I don't think I've ever looked forward to a game I've already owned for seven years as much as this one. Anybody else buying it?

So yeah playing online only saves progress for the host.

Yep, this was confirmed in one of the trailers about a month ago but I think the bigger worry is a few reviews mentioned how it's online is a bit shoddy if one person has a bad internet connection.

I'll be picking it up eventually as I've just returned to my 3D All stars playthrough of Sunshine and I don't want to over do it with too many Mario games.

I hear the game is difficult if your fingers have been replaced with sausages. And the graphics don't hold up if you smear spunk on the screen.

I haven't looked at my output closely enough to tell if its HD. I usually just wipe it off with a wet wipe and head to the bathroom to clean up.

Hard to see many things in-game that way.

Made a start on Super Mario 3D World last night. The faster movement speed almost makes it feel like an entirely different game to the one I played to buggery on Wii U. It's quite startling at first and it's clear that the stages weren't built around how quickly the characters now move, but ultimately I think it's a big improvement.

It's not just me then? I thought I just misremembered it, hopefully doesn't take too much getting used to though because I suck at moment.

I rattled through the first few worlds of this today - it feels great to be tucking into a Mario game again. Coming at this from a totally fresh perspective, it does feel odd going back to this after playing the far more sprawling worlds of Odyssey, but I do appreciate the tighter and more linear experience of 3DW.
Some of the levels have made me smile a lot with their creativity thus far too - the shadow level was great, I really enjoyed the Ghost House in World 2 or 3 (can't remember which!) and the Super Mario Kart themed boost level was great fun! I've been making sure to rinse each level of their green stars and stamps as I go too, but yeah, top stuff so far!
