| I mailed my votes off at lunchtime, but they're still in my outbox. Think I might try sending them again, unless you've just logged back into the forum for the first time this afternoon, Jay? EDIT Looks like they've just gone through. |

| Okay, a little early, but doubt anyone else is going to vote this week, so let's hop to it! Thanks to the 10 people who voted this week, a little down on last week but with a sparse couple of genres it's not a big surprise. Fifth Place - - Spoiler:
Mario Slam Basketball - 8 points (1st places - 1)You say: "Simple game of coin-collecting basketball." "I had to research the title of this as I had forgotten it, such is it’s standing in my collection. It’s OK. The presentation carries it a long way." "I loved this, and it was a stunning-looking DS game for the time. The gameplay was fun, it had a satisfyingly tactile dribbling mechanic, and netting the ball on the top-tier difficulties felt like a genuine gaming achievement. Underrated." I say: I've always been a fan of Mario sports games, even Mario Golf, which is surprising as I despise golf. But when the Americanised Mario sports games came along, Basketball and Baseball, I was turned off by my total lack of interest in the sport. Seems I missed out on a hidden gem here though!
. Fourth Place - - Spoiler:
WarioWare: Do It Yourself! - 10 points (1st places - 2)You say: "The very first and only 100% rated game in NGamer magazine! The games were more restricted due to it being touch screen only but still good fun and making your own is even better, easy to do and you feel a sense of pride when you see your masterpieces in action." "I know the programming was simplistic, but I refer you all to NGamer magazine's two features for why this is awesome. I also got to recreate the time when my sister nearly took out a passing car with a champagne bottle cork from her balcony." I say: The only exposure I've had to this is the videos put up on NGamer's YouTube channel, which I recommend you seek out if you've a spare fifteen minutes. Seems like a proper giggle, although the lack of any creative skills means I'd probably not get as much out of this as others would. Third Place - - Spoiler:
Project Rub - 11 points (1st places - 1)You say: "The game that started my horrible DS addiction. It's probably a steaming bag of shit in retrospect, but as an import DS gamer who got his mitts on a Japanese DS about four months before Europe, this game felt like forbidden magic in 2004." "Quite a decent little minigame collection, for a launch game. Just a shame that the games were too long and too hard for me. The whole premise was a bit creepy too: kids, in real life, stalking your crush in outlandish ways will earn you a slap at best and a court order at worst." I say: Just to get this out the way, I didn't vote this week as there was nowt I'd played. So I've played none of these games. I've not much to say about this one, beyond the fact it always caught my teenaged eyes everytime I went into GAME because of its provocative cover Second Place - - Spoiler:
Pro Evolution Soccer 6 - 12 points (1st places - 2)You say: "At least I think that's the one I had on DS, wasn't the ultimate PES experience but as good as you'd get on DS." "The level of customisation was neat and it played an alright game of football, too. I enjoyed it while it lasted." "This is basically exactly like the old ISS Pro Evo 2 on Playstation 1 which was just brilliant." I say: This ranked surprisingly high, and ended up being a little surprise to me. I've never played a DS football game, but I owned Pro Evo 4 on PS2 and it's a damn good game, so I'd imagine it'd port well. Also, this would have came during the time when PES was still king, right? A hidden gem, clearly!
And the Mario Party Protective Glove Award for Best Sports or Minigames Game goes to... - Spoiler:
WarioWare Touched! - 35 points (1st places - 3)You say: "This is what sold me on DS after trying a demo in HMV." "Poke! Spin! Blow! Start singing Ashley's song against your will! Great stuff." "Not quite as good as the original, but super funny, and also introduced Ashley, the best character in ages." "It's Warioware, there's loads to do and the microgames were brilliant as ever." "Good old Wario Ware fun, exactly how it should be and made great use of the DS system as you'd expect with the series." "Another Japanese launch game. Sadly not up to the (then) usual WarioWare standard, though I couldn't deny the appeal of using the stylus to trigger on-screen crazy. A mobile phone game long before 'proper' mobile phone gaming was a thing; if they'd have mixed the minigames up more thoroughly rather than categorising them by input, this had the potential to be a true early DS gem." "Still remarkably ingenious eight years on. It’s uncommon for a DS game to be this well-realised, but, well, this isn’t your common DS game." I say: One I always intended to pick up, and judging by how it flattened the competition this week, one I really ought to pick up! Seems to be as mad as ever judging by screenshots (remarkably difficult to find, by the by) and a worthy winner going by your comments!
Honourable Mentions (games voted by more than one person are in italics, games which were someone's first choice are in bold, game which were voted by more than one person and were someone's first choice are in red) - Spoiler:
42 All-Time Classics, Fifa '06, Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, The Rub Rabbits, Bomberman Land Touch, Fifa Street 2, Sega Superstars Tennis, WarioWare Snapped, Football Director, Retro Game Challenge. Dishonourable Mentions: - Spoiler:
Mario Slam Basketball: "The most forgettable Mario game until Mario Tennis Open."
"Yes it was fun, but it also created disturbing levels of anger. Simply thinking about the latter tournaments brings this gamer's blood to a boil. 'Old man yells at cloud.'"
Doki Doki Majo Shinpan: "Get past the reams of impenetrable Japanese text and... oh... er... (deletes emulator off laptop) (washes hands) (burns laptop) (washes hands again) (stamps on remains) (takes remains out into field in a bin bag and buries them) (gouges out eyes) (amputates hands just to make sure)"
Metacritic: "For including minigames compilations in "puzzle". Are you trying to encourage Phillips?"
Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games: "Or 'How to totally bugger your lovely new DS' touchscreen'. I believe fire was first discovered by a time traveller playing this game whilst foolishly sitting in dense undergrowth, such is the amount of stylus friction required to win at the bloody thing. Who thought this was fun? Somebody at SEGA HQ had a sick sense of humour."
That wraps up week 3! Next week it's Adventure games! Think Zelda, think Castlevania (in the Metroidvania style) and so on! Happy voting chaps!

| It took me a while to remember the European name for Feel the Magic when I sat down and tapped my votes out. Both names are a bit weird, but they both make sense in a way. It's interesting to note that not one person voted for its sequel, The Rub Rabbits... I had absolutely no idea what to expect for the remaining four this week, though I was pretty certain that WarioWare: Touched was going to make the top slot. |

| Wahey! Thanks Jay! (Although I will also point out that I changed the DDMS dishonourable to "other". I mean, er, I would have done if I'd ever played it. And made a dishonourable mention for it this week. Ahem.) A good showing for WW, and a surprising one for PES6: glad there were some good sports games on the DS. And by "some", I apparently mean "two".
Right, I need help with this week. I can remember exactly four action-adventure games I've played (three good, one bad): I'm sure I've played more than that, but can't remember them. And Metacritic only lists "adventure", which is point-and-click stuff. So any lists, ignoring Castlevania and Zelda, would be appreciated! |

| Great work guys, nice to see the love for Wazza. I didn't get a vote in as I don't really have any strong opinions on minigames or sports. For my money, though, the best examples on DS were on Mario 64 and NSMB. |

| So glad PES 6 took second spot, I was expecting it not to place at all. (I might boot that up to see how its aged) |

| These last two votes, games I voted for have made the top 5's quite easily which is surprising seeing the DS has a huge library. Might be very different though this week. |

| Still struggling with my list for this week. I may have to cop out and do just four, which is a shame because it was my favourite genre on the Wii.
Interestingly, Wikipedia lists both Hatsworth and Chinatown Wars as act-adv.; CW is definitely too much MAN to go in any other week, but I am wondering now if I didn't make the wrong call on Hatsworth. You probably spend more of the game killing enemies than you do jumping about. Thoughts, Stu 'n' Andy (and anyone else who's played the game)? |

| This is the hardest voting week across the Wii and DS threads I've had to think about yet. I can debate with myself about genre classification all day, but the fact is that I won't be able to reasonably vote for five adventure games on the DS. I've got two, one of which has already cropped up in another top five, and another which prompted debate in the Wii thread.
I'll be honest: I'm coming to find that the DS hasn't got nearly as strong a library (all-around) that others seem to think. Take way all it's RPGs, Puzzlers and Platformers, and the system starts to fall apart. Just my opinion, natch. |

| Kinda surprised some people here seem to be struggling to come up with five this week. I can think of 8 or 9 picks just straight off my head. |

Depends how much you like RPGs, I suppose. I imagine that Silver and I are finding it much stronger than you do. My votes are in. I've got five if Hatsworth counts, but one is utter mince. Silver, how many do you have minus Zelda and Castlevania? Would you like to do some campaigning? Might help jog my memory. |

Well, besides the obvious Zelda and (should be in all your votes in some way at least) Castlevania picks, i was thinking of the two Megaman ZX games, Okamiden and Solatorobo |

| I thought of it as an RPG, but given its lack of proper "towns" and its real-time combat (and its infuriating insta-death falling) it could be adventure. Although I am biased... Anyone else want to submit a view? |

| Phillips: Any votes are appreciated mate, even if you can't muster up five.
Jaster: It's an Action-RPG, which pedants could argue Zelda falls into, but it has levelling up... I'd put it adventure, anyone else want to chip in?
Balla: Henry Hatsworth then... let's put it to the forum.
Okay all, please check the opening post for the debate section, we have issues to iron out! |

| What's with all the negativity about Star Fox Command? It was the best game in the series! Gotta hand Wario this weeks, it was a beautiful game. I didn't think much about PES 6 compared to FIFA'05 which I'd also played and thought was much better.
As for Hatsworth it's a platformer, nothing adventurous about going from left to right. |

Woah woah woah there cowboy. Over Starfox 64?! Also, +1 for Hatsworth as a platformer. Another other calls? |

| I really don't care for 64, it's kind of boring. I'd forgotten that I wasn't a fan until I played the 3D remake where I played it once and didn't want to go back to it. I know there's loads of levels I've missed out on but I'm not that bothered.
With Command I went back and did every level for every ending. I loved seeing how the story changed, I loved the tactical view and I loved using all the different characters.
I liked Adventure though, but I don't count that as a proper SF obviously. |
