I wasn't planning to reach a conclusion, just keep changing it every evening until everyone gets bored.

IGN have also been running a interesting top 100 shooters, I'm not going to list all 100. But here's the final 20 which was announced today:

What do you shooter fans think of that, personally I would have Halo in at Number 1 with GoldenEye at 2, Bioshock 3rd but to me it's a RPG not a shooter but IGN went for a gun is your many weapon your a shooter hence prime which you tell me is a action adventure.

GT have also done there most anticipated exclusive games on Xbone & PS4

XBone 5 halo, 4 quantum break, 3 dead rising 3, 2 forza 5, 1 titanfall
PS4 5 yakuza ishin, 4 killzone shadow fall, 3 the order 1886, 2 infamous second son, 1 deep down

Both top 5's look good but I think the PS4's just edges it.

I do not agree with Metroid Prime being a shooter. That is all.

It uses a gun, like I said IGN went if the main weapon is a gun it's a shooter maybe not in a FPS sense but a adventure shooter I guess you would call prime then.

Oops, my error. Or rather, IGN's because it's a stupid definition. And I'm pretty sure that MP should have done better in that case, but of course I can't say that with any degree of certainty. I hate "proper shooters".

Also those lists of most anticipated "proper games" look dead boring to me. No Knack? No Crimson Dragon? Heck, not even Destiny makes an appearance.

Destiny is Multi Format, if i had to combine the EXCLUSIVES. I would go 10 yakuza, 9 dead rising 3, 8 forza 5, 7 Killzone, 6 halo, 5th infamous, 4th quantum, 3 deep down, 2 the order, 1 titanfall.

Knack looks good and so does crimson dragon but might be a bit niche but then again yakuza is on ps4 the list.

IGN's rule was a bit silly, I can understand there top 10 as most defined or reinvented the shooter genre.

Dividing games up in to genres is another reason I didn't take part in the Wii voting thread.  

I've not heard a single good thing about Knack and that's probably the reason it's not shown up on any anticipated lists.

I was hoping Knack to be good seeing it's coming from Mark Cerny.

I wish more games followed the example Tales of the Abyss and tales of Graces with new game plus modes, you earn points through the game and can have another playthrough with various perks. Honestly it's the sort of thing I'm surprised isn't adopted industry wide to provide incentive to players to replay games over and over again.

Fairly solid list, although Half-Life 2 should be in first, GoldenEye should be much lower (it has NOT aged well), Prime should be higher, and where's Timesplitters 2?

I think GoldenEye is that high because of what it did for the FPS genre on consoles, I still occasionally play it around a mates it doesn't look good but plays well still like most N64 games. A good game will always be a good game.

But games shouldn't be rated for what they've done. It should be a list based on what is currently the best games you can play and if they've age poorly or are pushed through on nostalgia it's a pointless list.

See I disagree, If we did greatest games of all time vote, with your view there be no Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Pong, Space Invaders these games are the foundation of gaming and made it what is today.

Do you have the same view on films, andy.

I think it's different with those classics, and with films too. Pac-Man is still a fun game, as are the others you mentioned - fundamentally, they're still solid games. With films, it's a different kettle of fish to games - it's difficult to say a film has aged badly, unless you're talking about early CGI.

With GoldenEye, I just don't think it holds up - it controls clunkily, and it's nowhere near as good as people remember it to be. It might just be because I didn't grow up with the game and went back to it later, so the nostalgia factor could definitely be a reason for its placing in that list.

It's hard to compare games with anything else a example i did use was with a mate with work as he says skyrim is better then ocarina of time as it looks better etc because of current tech.

He likes his cars so i responded with would you sooner have a Aston DB5 or a current aston, I wasn't comparing looks but tech the old aston has nothing really but the new one would have better brakes, suspension, in entrainment etc because of time what you get is technically better. His answer the DB5 as it be better to drive, same with zelda i said it's better to play.

See I kinda grew up with goldeneye and last time i played it around a mates 4 player golden gun, ages were 23, 24, 25 and 21/22 i think. So we all played it before and knew what it was like to play, we enjoyed it.

There are different qualifications to judge a "best game" on. You have to be clear which one's being used. Are you including what was done by that game for the industry? Because there's no denying that GoldenEye had a positive effect on shooters after it... if you like that sort of thing.

Me, I'd always assume that we're talking about how good a game is, to play, now; unless it's stated otherwise. But that's just me. (And Jay, and Andy... so I'm probably wrong.  )

I get your perspective on this and is one to easily understand. I for one had to use a bit of nostalgia for the mario vote as most I've not played for year's.

I'm very tempted to trade in Rayman Legends for £22 so I can buy it again at HMV for £37.99 just to get this

IGN edited after a few comments asking where's wind waker and apparently the top 25 was written before wind waker was reviewed.

I think it's stupid to have a top 25 for the Wii U just now. The console's not even a year old!

Kinda agree, they could of done a top 10 like what were doing for it's birthday.

Some of the comments on there and like that but some are saying if they did a top 10 people would moan that the other systems got a top 25 that IGN is biased towards everthing else. some are so stupid like a top 25 when there's only about 27 games how pointless or port port port what's the point of a Wii U and things like that.

If nothing else, it's a reminder that twenty-five decent games exist on this widely-panned console.
