It's the final countdown...

(continue song reference here)... to the GNamer Forum Awards!

Here's the plan:

1) I have a couple of fine-tuning related questions for you tonight.
2) The categories and topics will be posted up (late) Wednesday night.
3) Any last-minute amendments will be made, with the final, final update on Friday night (the forum's birthday!).
4) Voting begins proper on Saturday (two-week duration).

The awards will take place in the GNamer Community forum.

So, as of now, the categories are in place, in-keeping with the fine traditions of the old NGamer forum. Here are my questions:

A) Everyone's under the same umbrella as far as votes are concerned. I should hope it's obvious why, and is everyone happy that myself and Balla are considered regular forumites? (assuming anyone wants to vote for either of us in the first place  )
B) Are we happy with ties, or do people want to stipulate an A and a B vote for dual nominations? (Both votes count as first-place nominations, except in the event of a tie the number of A votes per nominee will be taken into account, and only then).

For some reason I see the likelihood of a tie to be quite high on this forum, given the condensed number of regular voters/votees.

C) Finally, as well as the votes, I wanted to include a couple of honourable/dishonourable mentions categories where people get to leave a quote/have their say about X topic. In the spirit of giving the awards their own identity for our fine, new forum.

These aren't tallied (and aren't mandatory) but I know people here will leave some memorable comments for us to guffaw over, and personally they've been the highlight of any voting topic thus far. Does this sound agreeable?

Thoughts? Apart from that, we'll keep it simple, and as always I look forward to seeing what people have to say.  

Can't wait for this!  I'd say we stick to "ties" with (b), mostly because that's the way it's always been done.

I'm hoping for a "best taglines" award myself.

Indeed, we have had ties in the past. Me and you once tied second in the Best Mod category, if I recall.

DIGRESSION ALERT: Ace word, wont. We should all use it more often.

Dishonourable mention categories sound like a winner. It's always fun to read the DM's of others, as they are frequently what I fear the vernacular would describe as "piss funny".

I love "wont" but I rarely use it in writing.
I'm happy with the rules, and ties are more fun than spitting hairs.

I'm happy to stick with ties- it wouldn't be us if I didn't have to share Funniest Forumite with someone.

Sounds good. It'll be interesting to see what Stu has planned, and what he'll bring in to replace the old NGamer staff/website awards.

It's been a good year here. I remember my introduction for the NGamer forum awards 2013 reading like a eulogy, as I was totally convinced that the forum was going to fade away and not be in use by the end of 2013. It did and it wasn't - and I'm glad we jumped across to where we are now.

Seeing loads of old NGamer threads get absorbed into the swirling maw of CVG was upsetting.

I'm glad that we moved, although obviously not that NGamer had to shut down for it to happen. This place is a lot more "personalised" than the sterile-as-heck CVG.

I spent the last year(ish) of NGamer Forum's life wondering when the hammer would come down on us, and the short-lived NGamer.net spring to life without an integrated, dedicated forum did nothing to assuage my fears. I love the relative stability this place offers, knowing that we now have the capability and willingness to all move on together should the need arise.

Anyhoo, here be the categories. Apologies if there seems to a lot to do on the voter's part, but the ultimate intention is for it to be fun from the voting stage to the results stage. All categories are single votes unless otherwise stipulated:

Forumite of the Year (Two votes)
Funniest Forumite
Board of the Year (GNamer Community; Off Topic, etc.)
Topic/Post of the Year (Regular topics, not special ones (See Event category))
Avatar of the Year
Signature of the Year
GNamer Forum Event of the Year (New category! This covers special events like Admintendo episodes, the podcast, real-life meets and the voting threads. Anything where a collaboration/vote/forum gathering occurred, in any way.)
Tagline of the Year (New category #2! See all previous taglines in the original post of the tagline thread)
Contributor of the Year (New category #3! Vote for the guy/gal who, for you, has tirelessly kept the quality topics/posts coming throughout the year)
Most-Missed Forumite (Yup, we've had some dropouts in our short life. One particularly memorable one springing to mind here.)

Exactly what it says. No votes here, simply a chance to hammer home that X game is fantastic and Y game is a load of old dung. If you're anything like me, you forgot to praise/slate one or two games during the course of the votes.
Your GNew Year's Resolution
One last throwaway topic: your hopes and dreams for the forum in 2014. Could be touching, could be heartfelt, could just be completely silly. Just fire off a short quote.

-Presumably the "most missed forumite" has to have posted on here? Otherwise Venom_uk will continue his (thoroughly deserved) stranglehold on this.
-Any chance we could have multiple votes for the taglines please? There are a lot of them!

Yup! Has to be a forumite who signed up to the place. Venom_uk hasn't been forgotten (as you will eventually see).

And yes, I did wonder about that. How about we go nuts and allow three votes for the tagline category?

Perhaps "The Venom_uk Most Missed Forumite Award"? Anyway, I'm inclined to put "nobody" for that in a passive-aggressive gesture at all the asshats who couldn't be bothered to stay around. (I'm betting that at least one person votes for nupkin, solely to get on my nerves. A pre-emptive  to them!)

That was precisely my intention, alongside other dedicated categories.

I may have to skip out on the Wii U and 3DS categories, because as much as I've watched YouTube playthroughs/had a go round at a mate's/absorbed information on games from you lot, without actually playing them I'd feel a bit rotten praising or slamming a game.

Other than that, I'm looking forward to voting! I'm assuming our comments on who we vote for will be made anonymous so we can all hurl abuse/be cloyingly complimentary at each other.

I'm voting for Dusty's superb 'maybe Nintendo should make cards for other consoles' tweet to win everything.

  Sorry about that, Jay. I didn't consider your position when I composed those categories. Thinking about it, wouldn't it be more fitting to open those cats out by asking Forumites to cover any given format? It could then differentiate it substantially from any of the voting threads (and some people may wish to praise/diss an old game that they've just discovered for the first time).

Also: yes. Comments penned about other Forumites will be quoted but not linked to the author.
