| I'm currently in a 6 way tie between Charge Blade, Bowgun (both kinds), Bow, Lance and Gunlance. This is a problem. |

The insect glaive as my main & if I'm struggling with any particular monster then I'll have the lance/Charge blade as back ups. |

| I think I'll try Long Sword and maybe switch to Dual Blades if the Long Sword ends up being a problem in multiplayer with tripping |

| I picked up a N3DS along with this and MM this morning. Unfortunately, by the time my SD card had transferred there was no time for actual gameplay before my friends arrived and I were forced to socialise Full thoughts forthcoming on sunfay |

Full thoughts forthcoming on sunfay Socialise? What is this? I think I may have done some of it back in the 80s, but I have forgotten what it is like. |

| I would have got this if there was a Wii U version instead of the 3DS as I do play monster hunter 3 unlimited on my Wii U and enjoying every second on it with the challenges you got to do, the items you got to get and all that. I don't think you can get any cave men than that in a game lol |

| While I would have liked a wii U version of the game it is not any worse just because it's only on 3ds, in fact for someone who isn't a big hand held gamer it's a testament to the games quality that I have already sunk over 200 hours into it. |

| I wonder if this should be retitled and moved to the general gaming section, thoughts everyone? I think it'd be good because there's lot's of MH stuff I'd like to discuss but there isn't really a relevant thread for it. --- That is a good trailer, I especially loved the bit when the boy was riding the Diablos as it slightly submerged under the sand and popped up again. Just a shame it didn't show the battle system in full action as I'm still on the fence about it because of that. Instructions of the controls for MH stories. (Btw before it's asked them being in English doesn't mean it will be localised as it's a normal thing to do at TGS) - Spoiler:
- Spoiler:
--- Also since you put the stories trailer up I'll fire up the new MHX one as well, it's just full of so much goodness! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zcGZe-uyYsM |

| Makes sense to move the thread and to talk about all MonHan goodness, even though I'm really interest in two of them. |

| Mods.' view (anyone interested? Anyone?): keep this thread for this game, make new threads for new games as and when you feel you'll get multiple people talking about them, and make a general MonHun (being nice this time) thread in GG for games that aren't at that stage yet/merchandise/other stuff. That's just my opinion, I'm not going to start moving posts about without your say-so. |

So, I've been playing a lot of this over the last few days! I've just reached Cheeko Sands, and I'm finding this to be leaps and bounds better than Generations for a few reasons.
1) The presentation. The better framerate is an obviously nice touch, but more importantly I'm enjoying the world and character design in this a lot. Even little things like the short cutscenes that play out when you first encounter a new monster works well for building the world of Monster Hunter.
2) The story. Okay, so it's not an industry changing story by any stretch, but by simply giving me a reason to go kill some monsters beyond some villager putting up a request because a Lagombi kicked him in the nads, I'm finding myself more motivated to actually hunt said monsters. It's also lent to some really cool moments, like fending off the Gore Magala on the boat.
3) The structure. This could be partially down to me understanding how to play Monster Hunter now, but I've not found myself overwhelmed by a mass of quests like I did in Generations. The game has been drip feeding a few quests to me at a time, and gently nudging me to upgrade my armour and weaponry at key points. I remember reaching Harth and clearing out the Tetsucabra, and finding myself struggling in the defense department. I'd already planned on upgrading my armour set, but it was encouraging to see I was thinking along the right lines as The Man told me he'd designed a Tetsucabra set. After making said set and finding myself two points of a Health +50 skill and suffering from Gathering -1, the decorations system opens up to me and allows me to gem my armour to work out the kinks in it.
In general, it's feeling like a better designed game than Generations, which is to be expected as I think Generations was catered to Monster Hunter veterans, what with all the returning areas and characters. Having said, I am missing a few of the quality of life changes brought in with MHGen, such as holding A to gather multiple times and the changes made to the food system. I've not found myself missing Hunter Arts and Styles as much as I'd thought though.
So yeah, once I've rattled through the solo content, if there's anyone still wanting to hunt in MH4U, I'd appreciate the company to work through High Rank and whatnot! |

Agree with this. MH4U is a better starting point, but for veteran fans MHGen has the added nostalgia hit - and it also does introduce a few small changes like the sped up gathering that would just be painful to go back on. I really like the changes to weapon upgrades in generations too - it's my favourite of the games so far. |

| I've said it before either on here or elsewhere I think MH4U is a damn near perfect Monster Hunter game, though I do shudder when I think about upgrading the insect glaive in that game. - Jay wrote:

Aye I'd definitely be up for returning to it at some point. |

| As I've said a few times I think we'll reach a place where we'll be quite comforatbly done with Gen, so I'll be well up for jumping back to 4, just I'd rather wait until it isn't competing with such a similar game. |

| Oh, I didn't mean anytime soon - I've still the solo content to rock through, and I'm planning on soloing the low rank multiplayer quests at the very least, and maybe early high rank - so we've still got a while left with Generations. |

You can level weapons up while they remain the same weapon, which also unlocks more possible upgrade paths, and upgrades can now take variable crafting goods in some situations. |

This makes me think of the PES/ FIFA debate. MH4U has the presentation, the structure, the story, the extensive game modes and #content, but MHGen plays a better game of beast stabbing! |
