| Today's topic of loathing: corporate wankers. There really is no more appropriate word for them. Exhibit A: the corporate wanker, a loud red-faced man of maybe around 30-40, who upon meeting anybody (male) sees it as a chance to exhibit his manly dominance. This he does by crushing the hand of his opposing number. In this way he is, in the eyes of his peers, a true alpha male. Exhibit B: the corporate wanker, normally younger than the above example but still white and male, whose walk is an affected swagger. In this way he owns the pavement. His walk is in no way sillier than John Cleese's for the reason of being unintentional, but is instead a way to show that he has money, class, and... more money. That's all that matters, right? |

| I'm glad I've not had any run-ins with people of that sort of ilk. Plenty of brown nosers, mind you, but nobody who's infuriated me to the degree of the aforementioned pair by yourself, Balla. |

| I barely know these people! In fact the latter was a randomer walking down the street who had such an affected corporate strut I was halfway between laughing and sneering.
I wouldn't talk about my colleagues in this thread unless I was super irritated with them,. My attempts to keep a divide between this place and my 'real life' have dwindled with time, to the point where I'd be a bit nervous to say anything too angry here when in my right mind. |

| Really? I think a couple of folks at my work or other friends could find posts on here by searching for my username, but I don't think they'd bother readily looking for this forum, let alone knowing that it exists! |

| My colleagues Matty Sanderson, Matthew Comegys, Robert Elliott and Alain Gaucher are stupendous cunts and I hate them.
They'll never see this. Cucks. |

I'm probably just paranoid, but at the same time it can't be too long before some recruiting company uses machine learning and a knowledge of legal loopholes re. the Internet to find out everything about me. |

I hate being a grown-up in a professional sense. As our company is expanding, and really trying to crack the kitchen design market as we have the bathroom design market, the decision was made to invest in expanding the kitchen design team. That meant that I was promoted to a "team leader" last year, and would essentially be overseeing all of the new people hired specifically for this new team. I don't mind from a technical/mentoring point of view (I've been at the company a while, and do probably have the best knowledge of kitchens), but I've also had to start worrying about administration and man-management.
Worse still, the sudden expansion and shuffling around means that this team has moved into an extra, smaller room; therefore, within the room, I'm the most senior person, and therefore have to be the one to react to any sudden HR-related stuff. I've had no previous management experience. Luckily the first couple of people we hired were basically model employees, but the most recent guy has been much more challenging. I think he might be on the spectrum somewhere - I find he gets distracted when I'm trying to explain things to him, and I don't get the impression he's listening; and, since he joined a couple of months ago, I think there's only been a couple of weeks where he's been in every day, either being sick, or having to deal with a situation and asking if he can work from home. Now he has had a lot of bad luck - and I worry that the time I got concerned was when the most serious thing happened, so I feel guilty as a result - but he does always seem to look for an excuse to not be here.
I am talking to my immediate manager about this, and he is trying to help, but I don't want that sort of responsibility; I'm automatically anti-authoritarian myself, and do get anxious about upsetting people in an advantageous way. I hate being in a situation where I've got to start reprimanding people; I always hoped that, if I was in a position of power, I'd make sure I'd stick up for the people below me - I at least feel like that for the other guys I guess. If it weren't for some big changes occurring that I'd like to spearhead, and the fact that I do actually care about the company/software/teammates, I'd be considering my options I think.
Sorry, that's a lot of words. It's not even about the Star Wars things.
The two good guys have both handed in their notice. Something's clearly not working, but they're already hired replacements without having time to review the situation. |

| Is it time for big loud fireworks when I'm trying to get to sleep? Of course it is! Still more excusable than the twerps who insist on setting them off a week beforehand. READ THE FLAMING CALENDAR |

| You young things who can get by on seven hours' sleep don't know you've been born yet.
Anyway, fireworks have apparently been killing puppies, so there we go. |

| Schwarzenegger says you need six hours sleep, max, so I've been forcing myself to sleep faster. I can comfortably operate on seven at the moment, as my exercise regime gets a bit more habitual I'll push to six.
I'm gonna get SWOLE and CUT and RIPPED and JACKED and STACKED.
Also, I was being facetious, random fireworks usage is very harmful to animals and also sufferers of PTSD. |

Surely not! I just can't see the appeal of domestic fireworks displays. They tend to be a bit bobbins anyway. Go to a professional one! Also we had reports of people firing fireworks through letterboxes on our street. |

| Good question. It was working perfectly when I was using it on a rail replacement bus service on Saturday afternoon: I folded it up into my rucksack, brought it home, and it wasn't displaying anything. Only my 'phone charging when plugged into it clued me into its status. So I tried power cycling, and after a couple of goes it did start up - then faded to that.
I'm taking it in to Apple today. If they call me 'YOU IDIOT' I'll let y'all know. |

| That looks bad. Have you tried connecting it to a TV or monitor via HDMI? You might be able to get it to display on a monitor, so if there are any files that you need right now it might be worth trying. That it still charged your phone hopefully means it's just the screen that's gone. If it wasn't booting properly though it could be almost anything - knackered mother board, hard drive, graphics card |

| I took it in and they said motherboard probably: they're fixing it as it's still in warranty. I have a backup, so I'll only lose a week's worth of data. In the meanwhile, thank goodness I didn't trade my old Airbook in! |
