| SONY I spent close to 3hrs today waiting to talk to someone at PlayStation Support and have rung four times in total. I got through after 1hr 20mins today for the guy to hang up on me right away. The second time today the guy was trying to help, but he was telling me to do what the guy the first time I rang on Thursday was telling about putting PS5 in Safe Mode etc which I've done four times now. Said done all this and even though I gave him my reference number, was like umm hmm not got any details, which is why I'm guessing hadn't heard from anyone at Sony as seems from what this guy telling me today the chap I spoke to on Friday never recorded anything. And he said he has done everything he could as my PS5 should work fine, that doesn't seem like Sony want to take the PS5 back that I've now raised a ticket with ShopTo via email as the phones aren't up because of COVID about sending back and getting a refund Which the automated reply saying will take up to 48hr working hours for them to get back to me, so I have a broken PS5 boxed up in the corner of my room. |

| Yikes. Big new-generation teething issues. Anecdotally it feels like a return to the generation-before-last and RR/YLoDs. |

| Yeah from what I'm seeing about the PS5 seen at least two people I follow send theres back (why won't they take mine) and YouTuber.
That at the moment I would say PS5 might be comparable to the 360 but least MS knew about it and just fixed, like my 360 which was a good two years old at the time.
Series X doesn't seem as bad, some have dodgy disc drives. |

| If memory serves me, the 360 issues were a big problem 6 months in, not actually on launch. Once people had been playing on them for a while, the ventilation issue became apparent. Are the PS5 issues software or hardware related? |

| For me it's hardware related I guess as I can't play anything, can't install any discs unless it's in setup mode, and makes awful noises.
One chap on Twitter his wouldn't turn on and YouTuber I follow his sounded like a jumbo jet.
Oddly I did get a email from Sony this morning which was in French, I used Google translate and I think it's them contacting me like the chap on Friday said they would as it says things like sorry to hear about your PS5 can we have some details whats wrong etc |

| Ooft, sorry to hear that there Mas. I watched a teardown of the PS5 on youtube from a tech channel. Some of it seems really impressive - it only takes 200watts to run! - but they were concerned about thermal performance. They said they clocked some of the memory running at over 90 degrees (yikes). I wonder if your storage is kind of messed up? Not that I'd recommend tearing it apart to have a look. Hopefully you find some helpful customer service soon if you haven't already. I just ordered a monitor for black friday. Amazon had sold out so I went via E Buyer. Payment processed, email receipt, great. Then two minutes later another email saying the model is out of stock, contact customer service (who won't be in until Monday) about your options... 20 minutes later another email, your order is on its way! But in that 20 minutes I ordered the same model from somewhere else So I'll have two 49 inch Samsung G9 monitors coming tomorrow (which are technically 5k screens ). At least I know I can return one of them but as you can imagine they're expensive so I don't much like having that much money up in the air (even though I'm totally safe I'm sure). grumble grumble hassle. Didn't want to miss out on some black Friday discounts that knocked a couple of hundred pounds off, so I double dipped knowing that they were going out of stock elsewhere and assuming I'd got unlucky at the checkout. |

| Blargh. On the bright side, you could have a really impressive computer set-up for the length of time it takes you to sort out the return! |

| The SSD on PS5 is bulti on to the board that don't know how'd you fix.
Sort been looking at monitor that I could use with Series X or PS5 for 120fps instead of a TV. |

| Hmm, thinking about it. I can't remember now if they meant SSD memory or RAM. There was definitely something memory related than ran hot though, at least in their test.
I've watched a lifetime's worth of monitor reviews recently so if you have any sizes and resolutions in mind let me know.
The thing is with monitors though is that unless you have money to burn, finding a 4k display with full hdr, g-sync or freesync compatibility, a high refresh rate and low input lag is impossible, so it's really up to the individual about what they want to prioritise. But there's plenty of good value 1440p displays, especially if you're not worried about HDR.
I've gone for the outrageous Samsung G9, which is an ultrawide with full HDR, 5k display with g-sync and a 240 hz refresh rate - so it's more than capable of delivering all of those frames if that's what you're into. It does have a ludicrous curve and will be absolutely huge and a resolution not directly supported by most media (so you have black bars instead of a full screen), but all that real estate will be very helpful for my work and immersive as hell for Cyberpunk! |

| At monitor sizes, about 32" 1440p would be fine but don't know where I would put in my room compared to just replacing my TV for a LG CX. |

| The LG CX is meant to be exceptional so that would be a strong choice if you wanted a new tv. |

| I was also looking up TVs the other day as I really should future proof that aspect of my set up before I get a ps5. A real sticking point seems to be finding one with a 120hz refresh rate though. |

| Nah I'm all about those tick rates of online games, remember? This is just about future proofing like I said as if a game can do 120fps then I'd like to know my TV has the option to display it properly. |

| Again it depends on size you want as a Monitor could be a better option, or looking myself a LG Nano has 120fps option but for me would want OLED hence the CX. |

| Yeh that was my initial point that there seems to be a tonne of options and I don't know exactly what would be the one that suits me most. I'm not in a hurry though so I have time to think about it. |

Yep, that's what I was confusing with refresh rates. |

| Finally, heard from ShopTo and DPD are picking up the PS5 tomorrow. Hopefully won't take long for a refund and maybe they'll reimburse the postage as that was £40.
At least something happening now and I'll just wait for a PS5, ohh what Metal Gear Solid Remake and Silent Hills, so where do I get a PS5? |

| That's good news. I hope you can get the postage refunded since you were sent a duffer. One of my monitor orders came today and I'm really happy with it. (significantly less so with the assembly instructions though ) My other order still has not dispatched. I put in a cancelation request on the online portal and tried calling them to cancel it but after an hour on hold I gave up. |

| My refund should come in the next few days, took a tad longer than normal as I sent it to the returns department not the faulty one.
Also, why I had to pay postage as normally with a faulty item they get DPD to collect whereas they thought I wanted to return which meant paying myself.
Anyway got the postage back into my account to find the Shock Blue controller out of stock but now getting for Christmas from my Uncle Couldn't use on digital items such as some Game Pass sub has to be cash for those That I went for Prince of Persia Remaster & Code Vein for my Game Share bud to message me this morning saying he's pre-ordered Prince of Persia on XBL meaning I cancelled that and just bought Mario 3D Allstars |

| Something strange is afoot at Nintendo. For some reason they've decided my girlfriend's visa debit card is German, so they're not accepting any money from it... |

| Are you sure it thinks she's in Germany and isn't just listing the purchase as in Germany because that's where Nintendo of Europe is? I had some slight issues using my debit card on the eshop but it was because my bank had an old phone number and were trying to send it a code. It's sorted now. |

| Not sure what it was but I don't think it's that. She looked into other people with similar issues, and many of them are American. She called Nintendo about it and they said that sometimes cards can get blocked, and you have to wait 30 consecutive days before they unblock - a timer that resets if you try to use your card in the interim. So she still can't use her card. I think she may have been able to renew our online over the phone though because we've got that back now. Also, she didn't even have to hold to get through to Nintendo |
