| Quiet Samus was a great character; strong, but lonely, raised by aliens and more comfortable away from other people. I remember when Other M came out, and people argued that her character couldn't be wrong because she'd never previously been characterised. Characterisation is not defined by number of lines! |

| The Kirby's Rumour Buffet Award for Most Wished-For Wii U Game- Fifth Place:
Metroid Dread (7 points)"Ori and the Blind Forest showed how glorious a 2D Metroidvania can be with modern HD spit and polish. Lets see the masters at work again." "Time for Metroid to go back its roots & rediscover what makes it great!"
- Fourth Place:
Fire Emblem Revengeance (8 points, 1 first)"Obv" "Use the gamepad to move units on the battlefield"
- Third Place:
Metroid Prime 4: Annihilation (18 points, 1 first)"Goes without saying" "Look, everyone wants it. Bring us a big, pretty, explorationy banger from Retro. Metroid Souls? Yes please." "Only without all the things that made the ones after Prime not as good as Prime." "PLEASE GIVE US A PROPER METROID GAME IT'S BEEN SO LONG" "Simply do it."
- Second Place:
F-Zero UX (18 points, 3 firsts)"FASTER AND PRETTIER AND WITH MORE ROCKING TUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNES! We need a new F-Zero, people don't even know who Falcon is now " "Stop me if you’ve heard this. Although, Mario Kart 8 has made this less pressing, with its 200cc mode." "You don't know how much FAST Racing NEO made me pine for a new F-Zero game. I think Captain Falcon is doomed to be seen as a Smash Bros. character from now on. " Oh come on, it's probably the closest we're going to get. Ninty Life gave it 9/10 anyway.
- First Place:
Super Mario 128: Sunshine Galaxy Reloaded (20 points, 2 firsts)"A much more accomplished playground for ideas than Super Mario 3D World - catering for the single player exclusively - would be very welcome indeed." "Proper one innit" "SM64 gave me the joy of not just finding, but discovering things as Mario. Throwing them at me through a Launch Star isn’t the same. But frankly, anything that’s not a bleddy “Super Mario 3D X” wouldn’t go amiss. (Watch as the NX launches with “Super Mario 3D Melton Mowbray”)." "Super Mario 3Ds Land and World were nice, but they're not Galaxy, are they? Come on lads. NX Launch title?" "You know, in the vein of Sunshine/64/Galaxy? It's about time, Nintendo."
- Failed to Place:
Six points:The Legend of Zelda: Swords of Fourtune (two votes)Five points (one first place):Chibi-Robo Returns Home/Chibi-Robo HD - "The original Gamecube version was one of the most beautiful stories there has ever been, considering it took place inside a single house, and most of the cast were toys that came to life. But since then, Cheebo’s been dragged through so many puddles of mis-management; a character to be plastered on the worst throw-away concept ideas. With the apparent noise from Nintendo being that Zip-Lash would be he final nail in the robo-coffin (as if the fault of that game was that we didn’t like Chibi-Robo as a character), we really need a new story, with a new house. Maybe just HD-erise the original?" Monster Hunter X - "I much prefer MH games on console so if this ever releases in the EU I'd love to see a HD version on wii U." PokémOnlineFour Points:Another Code: U - Something Something More Memories – "Let’s have an actual ending this time yeah?" Diddy Kong Racing 2: Wizpig's RevengeLittle King's New Story - "Get Platinum on this. Pikmin with individual names and personalities (or Mass Effect with less space-lesbians…) One of the most original things we’ve seen in the last 10 years, and a call back to when fantasy stories could be, you know… fantastic." Okamii U – "With HD graphics, no Wiimote to flail in battle, and a screen to draw the brush techniques on, Capcom could work miracles with this, if they’re not too busy urinating all over the Resident Evil series’ corpse." Three Points:Chaos Reborn HD/Chaos Re-Reborn - "It's a Julian Gollop strategy game. Enough said." [Er, I'd never heard of it, so... No it isn't? More detail please, mystery voter!]Kid Icarus 4: Pantheon - "An Uprising-like game on a machine with two control sticks would be perfect. It can't be left as long between instalments ever again with this momentum to build on..." Mother 3 (VC) - "I understand there's legal implications behind using a fanslation, but it's a crying shame that the game is sitting there basically ready to be released to the West and to be enjoyed by so many." Rogue Squadron IV: George Lucas Strikes BackTwo points:Advance Wars: Warring Units - "In the mould of the DS games though not the ones on gamecube" Donkey Kong U (in 3D!) - "Retro have proved that 2D DK can still kick it with the best of them (with the possible exception of Rayman); let's bring the big brute into that third dimension for a gloriously lush adventure. With a David Wise soundtrack, of course." [As long as it's nothing like DK64...]Knytt Deeper Underground - "Which could be anything, to be honest. I just need more atmospheric 2D treasure hunts – and I don’t need to shoot things along the way." Meteos U-niverse – "BECAUSE I AM NOTHING IF NOT PREDICTABLE. Also it’d be great on the Gamepad’s screen." The World Ends With You: Side B - "A bit of a long shot here, but something I think would work really well on Wii U. Control your dude on the TV and your partner on the gamepad screen, set the game in Paris to get all your fashiony goodness in there again, and you've got a license to print money. Oh, and book Sho and Joshua a flight from Shibuya to Paris too, cheers." One point:Bully 2: University Years – "Not specifically on Wii U, but it’s about time right?" [Think you've missed the point of this thread a bit, mystery voter. ]Dark Souls I/II Collection - "Not for me –I already own them. This is for anyone who is Ninty-only, and hasn’t had a chance to try the games. Given that the game notoriously (thanks to the way online works) doesn’t let you pause, having the item menu on the pad in the same manner as Wind Waker/Darksiders would actually be quite useful. In fact it probably makes it a bit easier. Hmmm… they won’t like that…" Ice Climber Olympian Heights – "Give me my epic 30º-inclined icy plain Nayru damn it." Mass Effect Trilogy - "Apparently, the Wii U version of ME3 was the best one, but playing it without the other two and the story seems mad to me." Pac-Man Vs. 2 - "Imagine this with the gamepad with Pac-Man on the pad and ghosts on the TV" WarioWare: Padded! - "Where is this? Game & Wario is not an adequate replacement for the madcap nature of a proper WarioWare." Honourable mention:Awestruck Ostrich - "I know that was a Rotating Platform predicto-name, but we should treat this as a franchise (just as Wario-Land came from Super Mario Land), and predicto-name the subtitle for this instead." [ I got "Awestruck Ostrich: Jeep Did Differ". Awww, I got the rubbish racing spin-off franchise! ]Sonic's Actually Decent Game - "Would of been nice"
- My Own Thoughts:
A little bit of explanation is required regarding 3D Mario games. Going into the home stretch for these votes, we had two people wanting SMG3, one person wanting a more SM64-like game (me), and one person who wanted "3D Mario", but whose past posts made it easy for me to put him into one or t'other. So until that point, "3D Mario" was divided in two. However, at the last moment, I got a couple of votes who didn't specify between the two, so you get the mishmash above. At least we can all agree that we don't want Super Mario 3D Melton Mowbray, right? But you get a picture of SM128 because I'm running the show. And it was my first place, so I can't complain. Controversial opinion time: I don't care about the lack of F-Zero as much as the rest of you. I still want it, but the series has historically been too hard for me. MK8 in 200cc's enough. And I don't get on with Fire Emblem, bloody permadeath. Pretty new Metroid games, though? Yes please! The STAR COMMENT award goes to the voter whose passion for Chibi-Robo was so evident, but an honourable mention goes to the Awestruck Ostrich... honourable mention. Let's have your Awestruck Ostrich games! Please vote in Stage 2.

| On the characters, can only agree with Drunka as someone doesn't like Metroid that this wished for top 5 is to me but Samus is a great character and iconic that's what Nintendo makes iconic characters there's a only few outside of theres that people in the street would know like Sonic, Pac-Man, Master Chief (reckon they would cool him Halo or something) etc. My picks for wished for were more games that would use the gamepad more then anything and why the gamepad is a thing |

| I went for franchises whose games I would buy on day one, although I now see I wasn't as adventurous as some! Glad that the winner is something we can all agree (?) on, though. |

Chaos Reborn HD/Chaos Re-Reborn - "It's a Julian Gollop strategy game. Enough said." [Er, I'd never heard of it, so... No it isn't? More detail please, mystery voter!] I feel like my homework is being marked by a school teacher. Anyhow I'd just love to see more strategy games for wii U since the gamepad is perfect for it (which is why I voted for Advance wars as well) & Julian Gollop (X-COM, Rebelstar tactical command & Ghost Recon shadow wasrs) is the king of that genre. Here's a trailer: http://store.steampowered.com/app/319050/ |

Aye, Fire emblem is a good shout. - JayMoyles wrote:

Just to be clear this is the original X-COM game from 1994 not the one by firaxis a few years ago but a lot of the key mechanics in the new one are pretty much thanks to him. (Why oh why isn't X-COM 2 coming to ps4/XO?) - Drunkalilly wrote:

| The GNamer Towers Award for Best World in a Wii U Game- Fifth Place:
Lemuria (8 points, 1 first)"Absolutely gorgeous hand-drawn world, and you could soar over every centimetre of it." "The 2D plane should not miss out, particularly when it's as well put-together as Child Of Light's."
- Fourth Place:
Lego City (9 points, 1 first)"All of it. Is that cheating? There’s so much to see; so many little hidden jokes to spot. Nicely." [Definitely not cheating, mystery voter!]"The sprawl of the place! It's astounding and every location worth going to for some lovely feature."
- Third Place:
PNF-404 (10 points, 2 firsts)"Charming and beautiful" "Is this Earth again? I can’t remember. I can remember that it’s always exciting to discover the next area. The highlight probably is the Garden of Hope; the camera panning up to the Mawdad’s tree. It’s just a tree to us; to Alph, it’s like Ganon’s castle."
- Second Place:
The Great Sea (14 points, 2 firsts)"Few games manage to create a world that capture that feeling of a genuine adventure as well as Wind Waker. Not two hours in to the game still confined to land or a pirate ship I'm reminded why this games world stood out to me originally. Its design allowed for a world that felt massive and yet refined at the same time, add in massive charm and you have an unforgetable world up there with gamings very best." "The big world full of lovable characters was the undeniable star of Wind Waker. A treat to explore, even when the game struggled to give me any impetus or incentive. Hopping in the king of Red Lions and pointing my sails at the horizon was the best feeling." "The sea does make up most of what's going on but it just makes landmasses that bit more exciting."
- First Place:
Inkopolis (15 points, 1 first)"Crazy Squid Wars are cool"
- Failed to Place:
Eight Points:Arkham City (three votes) - "Gotham City is a pretty bleak place at the best of times and with the slums cordoned off to hold the city's criminals, it's as bleak as it gets. Very well-realised." [I'm assuming "Gotham City" = "Arkham City"?]"The "city made into a prison" is an even more daft concept than the sequels' curfews and evacuations, but a big, sprawling, breathing Gotham for Batman to swing, rappel, glide and punch his way around was a dream come true for the comicbook nerd inside me. POW!" Five Points:Hylian Fusion (Hyrule Warriors) (two votes) - "I know not a game but this blends all the Zelda universe's together" One first place:Grassland Groove - "Because nothing else in gaming has made me feel like I’m actually playing the opening scene of The Lion King. That ending music... " [ I think we need some music...]Four Points:Bayonetta’s overall world – "I like killing things" Octo Valley - "Surreal, melancholy, beautiful and fun to explore and shoot through. The best thing about Splatoon's singleplayer campaign." Outset Island - "Mostly because it has pigs, but it’s also a perfect encapsulation of a tiny comforting island community. With pigs. Giant, angry pigs. " Sky Kingdom of Garuda (Rodea: The Sky Soldier)Three Points:Nintendo Land (two votes) - "Cheery colours, a thriving populace, and a faintly psychotic attendant! What more could one ask for? Replacing the F-Zero minigame with an actual F-Zero game, you say?" "We all want to go there" The Forge Lands (Darksiders II) - "The first world you visit in Darksiders II is a beautiful world, full of variety – certainly better than the stereotypical land of the dead, and the post-apocalyptic Earth. The best area is probably Drenchfort; a water/forest temple that even Zelda games would aspire to." Twilight River (Pikmin 3) - "Autumn, the most beautiful month, brought to life in the beautiful miniature detail of Pikmin. Gorgeous." Undersea Hyrule - "Zelda does worlds like no other series. This, sealed away and eerily quiet, was one of its best." Two Points:Darksiders II's overall world - "Large, well-connected, surprisingly beautiful... but enough about Boris Johnson. Darksiders II's world is very lush." The post-human world (Knytt Underground) - "Set under the Earth’s surface, the sprites and pixies have a new society. A lot of it is spent trying to decipher the weird machinery that the humans left behind. Among the giant (for them) flora, the odd machinery; ticking away, but serving no apparent purpose. The human world has left an impact on the new creatures; “USB” has been adopted as a surname. There are negative impacts as well; a tribute is left to the victims of the “metal pineapple”, and a device that clicks away is apparently for working out how close you are to the surface is probably a Geiger Counter to me." One Point:Mario Kart 8’s World - "But they’re just racetracksm right? Ah. But. Have you got the DLC? Look at the map in the subway. It shows you where a lot of the tracks are relatively located around a sprawling city. Now look down at the city lights while on Rainbow Road. It’s the same place! Mario Kart 8 actually has a canon! Exclamation mark!" [Brilliant spot!]Paris (Frenchy Bird) - "My favourite game is Dark Souls. My favourite book is War of the Worlds. My favourite Film is Terminator. I like gloomy, hopeless worlds and dark stories, where every ounce of hope is a lighthouse in the mist. And no world longs for its own inevitable death like the hopeless, hateful, barely able to hold together Paris of Frenchy Bird. If hell is real, this is it."
- My Own Thoughts:
I grouped one person's vote for "Splatoon's world" into Inkopolis - if I'm wrong (and I haven't played the game really), that's a vote-changing mistake! A variety of games represented in the top 10, with most people opting for entire gaming worlds as opposed to smaller more self-contained parts - I went for two parts of WWHD's world rather than The Great Sea, which was a bit sparse for me. I did vote for Lemuria though, beautiful thing that it is. But as a TWEWY fan, I can definitely appreciate squid-Shibuya. A variety of great comments there, but I'm going to give the STAR COMMENT to the first comment on The Great Sea. An expression of passion that only a truly beautiful world can inspire. Honourable mentions to the BoJo joke, and the sharp-eyed bloke who noticed the interconnectedness of MK8's world. Maybe we'll get to explore it one day? Please vote in Stage 2. |

| Didn't even think of Inkopolis! I also totally forgot what I voted for this time. - Spoiler:
And Gotham City becomes a temporary 'Arkham' City when some of the slum areas are cordoned off from the rest of the city and filled with criminals and insane folk.

| The Mas' Monthly Releases Threads Award for Most Anticipated Wii U Game- Fifth Place:
Yooka-Laylee (9 points)"Every now and then I forget that this game exists (or, rather, will exist). But then I remember, and everything is better. At long last, this should right the wrongs of Banjo-Kazooie Nuts ‘n’ Bolts, and its claim that no-one wants to play collect-a-thons any more." "The adventure-platformer sub-genre was too good to be left behind on the N64. Plus, David Wise and Grant Kirkhope. More exploration and hold the collectables please." "The nostalgia within me is reaching critical mass... we may be looking at an event that future generations will call 'Zernobyl' (giving my identity away completely there, but so what?). There's a gap in the market for this kind of game, I'd say - as the retroscope mines everything that's left from the 2D platformer, isn't it time the 3D platformer saw some action? Answer: yes."
- Fourth Place:
Pokken Tournament (13 points)"I’m not a Tekken expert, but then I find that fighting games are more fun when you have no idea what’s going on (Marvel vs. Capcom might as well be the Worker and Parasite cartoon from the Simpsons). Add in Pokemans and this is surprisingly tempting." "The one-on-one fighter (or whatever we're calling the genre this week) has undergone a bit of a renaissance recently, which can only be a good thing. Allowing you to take control of a Pokémon for some top-quality kick-to-the-face action sounds like a great twist. Let it be so!"
- Third Place:
Xenoblade Chronicles X (19 points, 1 first)"Because I’ll never forget exploring Gaur Plains until something vaster comes along." "I’ll be disappointed, but still more exciting than the rest of the lineup" "Lets face it, Xenoblade X is going to be the biggest game of the year as far as rpgs go. One of the most visually and aurally creative worlds in the industry in recent times, and its sheer size is going to take ages just to cross, much less properly explore." "Stunning world to explore? check. big giant monsters to fight? check. Pilot big giant mechs and fight said giant monsters? check. How can you not be interested in this?" "Xenoblade Chronicles was the only big JRPG I've ever put the time into, so another, bigger, prettier one with mechs will be bang tidy."
- Second Place:
Star Fox 0 (24 points, 2 firsts)"I feel like I've been waiting for this as long as I can remember. I love a bit of Starfox, but Nintendo haven't actually given us a real one since Lylat Wars. So excite." "It’s an in-house-developed StarFox with chicken robots. Worries that it looked unfinished are being dealt with via the delay. It’ll be grand. " "Not played a Starfox game in a long time & with Platinum games helping on this the action set pieces should be top notch." "The only concern I have is that a lot of people had trouble with the Beta versions. I do worry a little that Miyamoto’s “you can move it around like a real plane!” speech is completely at odds with how people would want to play a Starfox game. But if they’ve delayed it to tidy things up, we have to assume that everything will be better for it. And it looks like the Saturday morning cartoon dialogue is present." "The SNES original blew me away as a 13-year-old (in fact, I got StarWing for my birthday, if I remember rightly). The series has had some ups and downs but this looks like a return to into-the-screen shooting and may even be a return to the positive form of the first two StarFoxes. Bring it on!"
- First Place:
The Legend of Zelda: Wii U (42 points (ferchrissake), 7 firsts)"As if it would be anything else." "Basically the only thing I’m ACTUALLY looking forward to" "Because it's more Zelds. It's time for an Ocarina-like in the pendulum-like cycle of the home console Zeldas, which isn't normally my bag, but it might be the last really big hurrah for the Wii U. Let's see the dual-screened jerk go out in style." "If it's a Wii U game, I almost wanted to put in the next cat for the #bantz" [ ]"If this isn’t better than Skyward Sword, Everything Is Ruined Forever. But who knows? It probably will be. Just wait and see, and hope that the Zelda team will provide. Just wait and see." "It just looks stunning, I'm especially excited about the type of world they are building for this one." "That world! That horse-riding! That octobot! A shoo-in for that most prestigious of gaming accolades: a Drunkalilly 10/10."
- Failed to Place:
Eight Points: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD (three votes) - "Favourite Zelda, not sure if I’ll but it again though" "I love Twilight Princess, so any excuse to play it again is appreciated. And prettied up into HD as well!" [Well, "prettied".] "Yes, I know it doesn’t look that much different from the original when you first check it, but this is the game we need, to keep us busy while we wait for the new Wii U game. I know it’s divisive now, but I think the original game was awesome. Plus, all of the recent Zelda remakes have tidied up some aspects of the original game that Nintendo were unhappy with. If they can sort out some of the pacing issues (and give us the Gamecube controls as opposed to the Wii ones), this’ll be a treat."
Five Points: Genei Ibun Roku #FE (two votes) - "Not exactly looking forward to it, but I’m more likely to give it a go than Star Fox Zero (Out of 10)" [Oh the enthusiasm!]
Three Points: Lego Marvel Avengers - "More Lego Marvel is always good" Mario & Sonic at the Rio Olympic Games 2016
Two Points: 90’s Arcade Racer Lost Reavers - "Mainly because platinum are working on it" Rive
One Point: Fast Racing NEO - "It doesn't look like we're getting a new F-Zero any time, but a big pretty HD scifi racer with four-player splitscreen looks ideal." Hyper Light Drifter - "The world this game seems to be creating is one I want to throw myself into. I hope I’ll still get the chance to do that on Wii U." Shantae: Half Genie Hero - "Each Shantae game has been slightly better than the last, so I'm looking forward to this one improving ever so slightly from Pirate's Curse. At least the breasts won't have your eye out on the Wii U..." Road Redemption Terraria
Honourable Mentions: Xenoblade Chronicles X - "Would be if we were doing 6 but it's going to be here this time next week knowing Nintendo's store that it's not that anticipated for me"
- My Own Thoughts:
With the first place for this vote being the most obvious result since any vote with Super Mario Galaxy in it, the excitement was in which order two and three would come, and who'd populate the below-podium spots. I'm very glad that Y-L got a say - the third comment, which gets this vote's STAR COMMENT award, sums up how I feel about this game. I'd all but forgotten about Pokken myself, looking forward to TPHD and Hyper Light Drifter more, but it seems like a lot of you want to see some Pogeymans battering each other. More power to y'all, then! SF0 scraped over XCX in the end. I'm glad to see the enthusiasm for both games: the original XC was somewhat niche, while SF0 attracted some disappointed rumblings when it was announced. I'm sure they'll both be amazing myself (shush Andyman). Really though, that victory margin. Let's go through the numbers. There were ten votes, of which nine voted for Zelda U, seven picked it as their first place, and then one second and one third. The series is still the most exciting thing that can grace any Nintendo home console, apart from arguably a proper 3D Mario. One person only voted for LoZU, indeed! But unlike that person, it's the breadth of good games here that makes me the happiest out of everything I've seen in this vote. In what must be the Wii U's last year, we've got several bona fide classics (potentially) on the horizon, with lots of great smaller games hovering in the wings too. If you've got a Wii U, this vote shows that there's plenty to look forward to. And if you've had one but sold it? All I can say is - oops! Please vote in Stage 2. |

| It does look there will be some good games coming to the Wii U, not sure about the oops at the end Balla as someone could list lots more on the other systems to anticipated.
If they get those games out in nice waves, instead all at once that the Wii U will be great to go to now and again. |

| I'll maintain that "oops". Of the games which have more than five votes, 5 out of 6 are exclusives. The top three in particular look like they're all going to be at or near classic status. And even if you don't like certain genres, the list is actually quite broad in that regard, with only action-adventure being represented twice (two Zeldas).
I'm not saying don't own another console for quantity reasons. I am saying, don't get rid of this one. Not until you've seen it through. |

| I'm not saying not to own a Wii U and I put a different 5 then most that there is a broad range of games, and I put XCX as 6th as was soon out, are the top 3 going to be classics that I'm not sure about.
But I totally understand why some on here have sold or have been thinking about it, even with look at that list of games and what the others have. |

| That's a corking line-up of games there. I rewatched the gameplay trailer for Zelda U, and it's pretty much convinced that I'll be picking up a Wii U around the time of its release. That is an absolute must play. |

| Barring XCX, that was my five (with Shantae: Half Genie Hero being the other). It is a strong line-up and I am very pleased to see the eShop being remembered, because it's got the machine through some very barren spells.

| The Balladeer Award for Best Sound in a Wii U Game- Fifth Place:
Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze (11 points, 1 first)"David Wise you absolute “ledge”. Windmill Hills, the Snowmads’ Theme, any watery bit... Gold dust in my ears, without the pain or tinnitus. Scorch ‘n’ Torch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFP4wn0dejc " "Can't argue with the music in this game, because it's brilliant. Compositions that make you stop playing to listen to them."
- Fourth Place:
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD (12 points, 2 first places)"The game knows just the sort of music you want to be exploring an enormous ocean to. Then it subverts it. Plenty of seagull noises as well. The Cursed Sea: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3C6OCyTUlgI " "When in doubt, just go with the proven I say."
- Third Place:
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U (16 points)"A collection of the very best Ninty tunes and their spruced-up remixes. It has the Gusty Garden music in: what more do you want? Destroyed Skyworld: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qzf9N1IrdRY " "I was tempted to go Smash, but I feel that a good number of its themes don't actually fit the tone of a party brawler, with some of them feeling outright mellow." [But great notwithstanding! Here's Pedal Glider...]
- Second Place:
Mario Kart 8 (17 points, 2 firsts)"The first live-recorded Mario Kart, and it paid off. Moo Moo Meadows has never sounded this good. Rainbow Road: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNMy4DKKDFA " "A lovely selection of tracks, including Moo Moo Meadows. Funsies."
- First Place:
Splatoon (23 points, 1 first)"If I was a teenage Inkling, I’d listen to this music. Some of the catchiest squid-rock I’ve heard in a long time. Music – Splattack! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Fs54BU-NIY " "It's all about the music for this one it's just so.........well..............fresh. " "Theme tune"
- Failed to Place:
Nine points: Super Mario 3D World (three votes, one first place) - "Doodoodoo da da da dada! Doodoodoo da da da dada! Doodoodoo daa da, doodoodoo daa da, doo da da dada daaaa! Music - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohE6wO0A_zs " "I mean, its a new Mario game, y'know? Obviously incredible."
Eight points: Shovel Knight (two votes, one first place) - "I know chiptunes aren’t everyone’s cup of 8-bit tea, but those of us who are fans, the music in this game is every bit as memorable as that in the original Mega Man games, and definitely more than the generic orchestral stuff that is usually found nowadays. Music – Strike The Earth! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqAYMZSOQao " "Love the retro music & sound effects" Child of Light (two votes, one first place) - "At the moment best JRPG score we've got on the Wii U" "When I'm doing my marking at work (because I like to avoid bringing it home, if I can), I whack the Child Of Light OST on and get going. It's brilliant and fits the game like a glove." Hyrule Warriors (three votes, one first place) - "Great mixes of Zelda tunes" "Zelda's timeless music meets Warriors' hair metal. Bangin'"
Five points (one first place): Affordable Space Adventures - "There’s a lot of little things that make this good. Firstly, there’s the (suspiciously) calm voice of the uExplore narrator; you can draw similarities with Hitch-hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy – either Peter Jones’ original, or Stephen Fry’s film adaptation – for the way things are explained. There’s also the ambient music (albeit not quite as good as Knytt Underground’s). But the in-game sound effects really make this game special. The sentry droids bleep and bloop as they float around, and screech into life when they find your ship. The SmallCraft might be the best thing though; I didn’t think I knew what a cheaply-made spaceship should sound like, but apparently it’s like this, with stuttering engines and windscreen wipers. Sound effect examples at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkPRJ8FhJ5c "
Four points: Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush The Wonderful 101 - "Mainly due to theme tune" [Best bit of the game by a way...] ZombiU - "Definitely the most atmospheric game on the wii U."
Three points: Rodea the Sky Soldier (two votes) - "Best thing about the game but the OST is that great"
BIT.TRIP Presents Runner2: Future Legend Of Rhythm Alien (both) - "The narration is a laugh riot of pompous seriousness but the music that the player gently adds layers to through play has got to have a serious mention. Joyful stuff." ["Both"?] Bayonetta - "The genius integration of Fly Me To The Moon kind of made this game for me. Gorgeous, timeless stuff."
Two points: Knytt Underground - "The sound effects aren’t quite as memorable as Affordable Space Adventures; mostly the hum of ancient machinery, or the rustle of underground wind (giggle), but the melancholic ambient electronica soundtrack does a great job of conveying the general concern of the people and their situation. The highpoint is definitely the Underwater Lab Theme. I had to stop and listen to the whole thing before carrying on typing at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5L1DBk_pnt0 " LEGO City Undercover - "Mainly for the voice acting, which is robustly hilarious throughout." Super Mario Maker
One point: Rayman Legends - "Mostly for the music levels. Goodness knows that the sound effects count against it placing here, but the music levels were great. Mariachi Madness: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIR8Z8v61E8 " Little Inferno - "Surprisingly excellent tunes, from the jaunty to the heroic to the mournful. Give it a listen, even if you're not keen to pony up the pennies." Thomas was Alone - "Narration and music this time. Danny Wallace delivers his lines as if he's doing the spoken word version of a children's book, which actually fits perfectly. The music is also darn good." Yoshi's Woolly World
Honourable mentions: Bayonetta 2
- My Own Thoughts:
I've not played much of Splatoon, but I've listened to some snippets of its soundtrack (not least the one above), and... er... well... if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all! Music (and sound to a lesser extent) is a famously subjective area, so the following are more or less a list of opinions. Pinch of salt!
- DKCTF was robbed. Robbed so hard. By far the best soundtrack on the console. I don't care if you couldn't care less about another 2D platformer - hunt the music down on Youtube and give it a listen. That only three people voted for it, that only I gave it first place, is a travesty.
- I voted for SSBU, MK8, and WWHD. All games with great soundtracks that thoroughly deserve their placings.
- As in many other aspects, SM3DW is by far the worst of the 3D Marios in its soundtrack. Sprawling Savannah provides brief respite from what I'd otherwise class as "muzak".
- I'm not a great fan of chiptunes, but there's no doubt that Shovel Knight does them wonderfully. SMM, however, does not - barely any new music at all, all of it done to death over the years. Why'd you go for that, mystery voter?
- My category for STAR COMMENT this time was fairly simple: whichever comment links to the video with what I think is the best music (that's not one of mine). So it goes to the Knytt Underground comment. The words accompanying it are pretty good too.
Please vote in Stage 2.

| Ah. That 'both' was in my notes about the sound category when I was voting for narration and music. Thought I'd deleted all of them; obviously not! Some sound sound choices (arf) there. Splatoon's music is good but a bit too fresh (arf arf) for me, old man that I am. |

| I didn't feel qualified to vote in this one due to my lack of knowledge about Wii U OSTs, but MK8 and SSBU both show Ninty at their musical best. Not too hot on Splatoon, to be honest, but hey ho! |

| Splatoon fully deserved that win. Excellent music throughout, great sound effects and charming squidchat. Unique and brilliant.
DK:TF is good stuff, I wish I'd remembered it when I was voting. I'm loathe to pick Smash as it mostly consists of music from elsewhere. |

| On Smash, it has a lot of music that is straight lifted, correct - but also a heck of a lot of stuff that is remixed into better versions. Music "Week" 128 had 10 great tunes that hadn't appeared in those forms before. Also would really appreciate a (l)ink to some excellent Splatoon music! - Drunkalilly wrote:
