| I'm pretty excited about X&Y now, but I'm going on holiday to Canada and the US on October 11th and so I won't be able to buy a copy I can actually play until November (or I guess I could order it and just have it waiting for me when I get back). My first injury as a result of 3DS region locking. |

| No 3D mode in the overworld bits...not sure what to think really.
If it has meant the game runs at a silky smooth 60fps (something not seen since the GBA games) in the maps then I'm all for it though. I think fluid gameplay really suits an RPG like Pokemon, and I was happy that the battles in Black/White ran at 60fps (overworld was 30fps though), made everything feel a lot faster.
I'm going hands-on at Eurogamer so hopefully myself and Beemoh will have some things to say here. |

| I thought we already knew that the over world wasn't going to be 3D? Which I guess I can understand why |

| I'd be fine without the 3d in the overworld either way to be honest, Pokemon is not the sort of game where 3d is really going to change the gameplay one way or the other. |

| It's really the principle of it that's the problem, rather than it being an issue in-game. |

| Hopefully it will make the battles feel more exciting if they're bursting into 3D. Like how the battles in the 2D games show off the Pokémon better than the overworld does. |

| This is going to sound pretty shallow, but this lack of 3D overworld thing has almost put me off the game. That just seems like an unthinkable decision for a top-drawer 3DS release. It doesn't help that up to now I've been able to muster 0% enthusiasm for the thing anyway. I think I may finally be bored of Pokémon. *slumps out of thread* |

| I'm in a similar boat about not caring about it. I want to want it, but recently I've realised I'm not overly bother by pokemon as a series. I'll probably pick it up one day mind.
As for the 3D I couldn't care less. I still maintain that Mario 3D Land is the only game that was worth a damn. |

| Just some more random info, some that we already know..
Pokémon gain experience even when the opposing wild Pokémon is caught – subsequently a caught Pokémon gives the same experience points as a defeated one. Sky Battles are limited to Flying-type Pokémon and those with the Levitate ability – some moves can’t be used. There is an adjustment to the inheritance system of breeding. Ghost-type Pokémon can freely escape from battle without being influenced by Shadow Tag. The item Exp. Share will revert to Exp. All as in Generation I, where when one Pokémon holding this item participates in battle, all other Pokémon in the team receive experience as well. Unlike in Generation I, the experience is not split but rather received by all Pokémon. This means that the participating Pokémon receives 100% experience, while non-participating Pokémon gain 50% experience. When distributing new moves and abilities, priority was given to new Pokémon. The CGI style is different from Pokémon Stadium and Pokémon Battle Revolution, as those games were supposed to emulate “realism within fantasy”. Since the handheld Pokémon series is supposed to be accessible to everyone, battles were made “cuter”. The standard selection process for Pokémon Mega Evolution is based on three points: visual looks, popularity and game balance. The power-up of Mega-Evolved Pokémon is meant to elevate them to the class of legendary Pokémon, hence the restriction of only one Pokémon being allowed to hold a Mega Stone during battles. The timing to Mega-Evolve is selectable. Some moves, with focus on special ones, have had their power and accuracy revamped.

| I'd be more interested in Mega Evolutions if more niche Pokemon, like Mawile, get the treatment. Though Ampharos is one of my favourite Pokemon so I don't mind that.
If it's meant to elevate them to legendary status, though, then why does Mewtwo have Mega Evolutions...? |

| I think Mega Evolutions are a fantastic idea myself. It will help keep older Pokemon relevant, and the series needs to start giving older fans bones if it wants to be a force in the future as well. The idea of them being buffed to the point they are on par with Legendary pokemon may sound extreme, but the inability to hold items will keep them in check in all likelyhood, Garchomp is a perfect example of something that really misses the held item. Without the ability to hold a Scarf or Yache Berry it is going to be that much easier to check and deal with.
The improved stats have to be good, removing the ability to hold an item can make or break a fair number of Pokemon. Either way I'm incredibly excited to see what they bring to the battle scene. Them and the overhauled type chart will shake things up tremendously, which frankly is needed because most of the matches I played in gen 5 tend to pan out the same. |

| Okay, it's two weeks to go and I would quite like to join in the hype-building, so I have a request. I know some stuff about the new games: I know the starters, the cover-legendaries, the fairy type and its dynamics. But can all other discussion please go in spoilers for the last two weeks? Stuff that you wouldn't know about unless you'd read about it, anyway. New Pokémon, Kalos' areas, mega-evolutions, etc. This isn't a mod.-order, just a request. And I'm not asking you to edit existing posts.
The question I have is, what are people doing for nicknames? Specific non-starter Pokémon aside, obviously. I'm thinking of taking a leaf out of the Nuzlocke thread's book and calling them after forumites. Now, who'd make a good Froakie...?
(I am very very excited.) |

| Well, I'm incredibly excited. Like a genuine child.
For nicknames I normally give them all cool ones like "Leviathan" "Citizen Pain" and "Killmaster" until I catch the legendary then I call that something like "Clive". |
