| I just watched the Independence Day: Resurgence trailer, when would you think to bring it out to cinemas, nope June 24th which no sense at all but it does look decent. |

| Saw that there Star Wars. It was bloody amazing - it was vastly more fun than the prequels and had a human touch which the prequels lacked too. Great stuff. |

| The hype when you managed to avoid any and all information about a new Star Wars movie and are less than an hour from seeing it! I don't excite easily, but you'd better believe my hype levels are through the roof right now!! |

| Special movie that was! Well worth the hype. It really had that Star Wars feel to it, all the magic and spectacle. Loved every single second of it! - Key thoughts on super spoilerific stuff and so on:
-Rey's gotta be Luke's daughter surely. The Lightsaber is practically a family heirloom at this point, and there was also Han's oddly kind treatment of her. And don't think I didn't notice the quick cut away from him before he could reply as to who she was! -Snoke, he reminds me of what I know of Darth Plagueis. Probably not him, but it's a cool shout-out, and if it does end up being him then hoo-boy! -Han's death. I know Ford has wanted Han to die since Empire, but I didn't think they'd actually do it, and definitely not in such a gut punching fashion! I was legitimately stunned when the Saber activated. I was just sitting there, and was just starting to subconsciously think "uh-oh, I think Kylo's using the Force to keep hold of that Saber" and then BAM. And don't think I missed the parallel between Luke and Kylo, with how Luke's transition was to be killing Vader, his father ( I love how many subtle parallels this movie had with the ot along with the obvious ones, heck that scene had two, the one I mentioned and the obvious Kenobi death). At least Han was awesome personified to the end! That end's totally going to make me tear up on every viewing. Chewie's cry just drove it home so hard. -Finn was awesome. Exactly the sort of character that prevents things from getting too bleak and helps keep things upbeat. Loved the duel with him and the Stormtrooper. Speaking of Stormtroopers, I'd like to say how nice it was to see them actually being competent for once. -Rey was awesome. Not just that but I love how they played with my expectations. Like with her reaction to Finn being First Order, the obvious expectation is some sort of anger at betrayal, but instead she's smarter than to think him bad and just dislikes he's leaving the fight. Obviously her journey is only just beginning and I cannot wait to see what happens next! They've managed to create a character with bags of potential here. -The lightsaber duel was absolutely amazing. Out with the silly duels that looked more like dances meant to represent fights rather than actual fights and in with everything that made the duels between Luke and Vader in the ot so amazing. I was also really pleased to see Kylo's hilt actually play a role in the fight and have some practical use. -Kylo Ren. The thing I like the most is that they didn't even try to make a villain better than Vader. They know he's been done and cannot be topped, so they did something completely different. Kylo's rage outs were both amusing and terrifying in equal measure. His immaturity and unpredictable nature brings its own brand of fear to the table. They've created a good villain here and it's going to be very interesting indeed to see what happens to him now he's killed his own father and lets that actually sink in. -That last scene with Luke and Rey. Like the scene itself, no words should be necessary here. Spine tingling stuff, and more effective than any cliche sort of cliffhanger.
I could honestly go on and on about everything I loved about this movie, because it was basically all of it, but alas! Special shout-out to the Stormtroopers that just walked away. Another thing I loved about this movie, the small yet present doses of humour, which was always a aspect that made the original trilogy what it was. Oh, and Jay, which side do you fall in to regarding Rey? - Spoiler:
Luke's daughter or no?

I'm going no as Jedi's aren't meant to have kids and I can't see Luke having a kid with a random woman also what's the hook for Rey v Ren, you killed my uncle cuz.
I'm thinking more like sister to Ren, seeing they've took some inspiration from the now noun-canon novels. And the hook is you killed are father, brother.

I don't think Rey is Luke's daughter. It's a little too obvious. I agree with Mas - I reckon she's Luke niece, and she was actually Han's daughter too. It'd really make the dynamic with Kylo Ren a lot more interesting too.

| Funny thing was - More spoilers:
I actually originally zeroed right in on Rey being another Solo kid because of how Han treated her, although that one might have been more obvious to me as I've been reading Legends novels recently and a big part of those is the Solo twins Jacen and Jaina, the former becoming a Sith Lord at the end with Jaina being the one to put him down.
The thing that ultimately makes me think Skywalker is the lightsaber, it's practically a family heirloom at this point and it finding its way to Rey after all that's happened is very symbolic. I don't think it's coincidence that Luke's original Saber found its way to Rey.
Another factor that's on my mind is her innate proficiency with the Force. Despite only just awakening she was able to repel the mental assaults of Kylo. If Kylo's weaker in the Force it's possibly because Leia herself seems to be weaker in it, but if that logic applies then it would also hint that Rey comes from the other Skywalker twin, Luke.
That all said I'd definitely agree there are enough hints there that could point to Rey being another Solo, and I certainly think it's a valid theory. There's some red herrings here, and only time is going to tell which of them are hints and which are tricks!
On the no kids policy - Spoiler:
One has to remember that that was a policy of the old Jedi Order, which the entire prequel trilogy deliberately set up to be completely wrong on such matters for their fall. Their policies being wrong and far too restrictive was a big plot point, so much so I don't see them bringing back that sort of thing, and if they do it'll be because Luke had a bad experience rather than because of the way the Old Order handled things.
Rey may or may not be Luke's daughter, but I don't see them bringing back the "thou shalt not love" rubbish of the Old Order.
Also, if they borrow anything else from the old eu - Spoiler:
Luke's bound to have a kid and a relationship. His partner getting killed by Kylo would also fit, as Jacen killed his partner in the Legends timeline once he'd fallen to the Dark Side.
Waiting the two years for the next movie and the answers to all this is going to be so painful, and I'm going to love every second of the anticipation! |

| - Spoiler:
I don't think they'll touch on the whole thou shalt not love etc just that it's there and Luke I think is unlikely to have had a random kid and he would be more focused on rebuilding the Jedi Order.
But if Rey is Lukes daughter which I feel is less dramatic, they need to explain things maybe in the comics etc of stuff between VI & VII as to who the mother is without saying maybe just ad in Lukes wife and maybe use the idea Ren killed the mother as that sort of flashback seemed to Him and then Ren clan killing people.
Maybe one sibling is always stronger in the force and Rey is just stronger then Ren also when Han is on the bridge and shouts out, I thought he shouted Ren but from what I read he shouted Ben, I guess to pay tribute to Obi-Wan "Ben" Kenobi from them.

| Star Wars was absolutely amazing. Fun, funny, exciting, gorgeous film. Didn't do anything hugely new for the series, but cleverly subverted little things. I loved every second, and I'm so glad to see a new trilogy really capture the heart and soul of Star Wars. Rey is... - Spoiler:
A Kenobi. Granddaughter I guess.
Finn is... - Spoiler:
Gay with Poe Dameron.
Kylo Ren is an excellent villain, for all the reasons Athrun says. SO EXCITED. I FUCKING LOVE STAR WARS. |

I saw that theory as well as in something that is canon Obi-Wan has a relationship with someone that Qui‑Gon was protecting but that seems even more stuff they have to explain as were the child (Rey's parent) hidden protected as would of been force sensitive, what happened to young Kenobi during what is at least everything after EPI and then who's Rey's mother / father as well and how did she come to be on Jakku also the Saber called out to her which we know is a Skywalker heirloom which she would be if Leia or Luke's daughter

Obi wan held onto that lightsaber longer than anyone else, and cared more about Luke than Anakin ever did. He also, apparently, did the voices in her little flashback. Also, I refuse to believe luke would abandon her or that Leia and Han didn't recognise their niece.

Well I think they do, know who she is as Han is asked by the woman that has the lightsaber but it cuts to Rey before we find out also Yoda's voice is heard in that bit as well. Also after the mission, Leia hugs Rey over anymore else.
You may be right but the explaining of Rey's origin would take longer and to me doesn't have the same dramatic affect as the other two theory's.
Why do we have to wait so long, till VIII

| I've just got back from a cinema double bill of Star Wars and Sisters. Both good fun. I enjoyed Star Wars even more than I thought I would, I've never been ridiculously into the original trilogy but I've always loved the world & the games that have spawned off the back of it, but everything about this film just made me smile. |

To be fair it might not have been as simple as Luke hiding her. Something very nasty and tragic happened that day, of that we've seen enough imagery to know, and he may have even thought her lost in some sort of escape attempt.
I just think it's a little too soon given the complete lack of information we have about the past to assume things because they seem out of character. I also agree with Mas and believe both Leia and Han know who she is, and it certainly wouldn't be the first time mentor figures kept heratige secrets for a persons best interests either.
Not to mention next movie is "Empire" of the trilogy if they want to keep the tonal parallels going for the trilogy, so I'm expecting some seriously dark and tragic stuff to be revealed next movie, if Rey is Luke's daughter I have absolute confidence there's a extremely good reason for her being "abandoned" like she was.
