| Nintendo have filed a new trademark for Eternal Darkness, according to Siliconera. The trademark, filed on July 23rd, includes a section that covers downloadable electronic games and programs. While this could signal the future distribution of Gamecube games on Nintendo’s Virtual Console service. |

| So as some predicted a while back, ASDA is no longer selling Wii U. Of course, the fact that Pikmin got to number 2 despite ASDA not selling it makes me wonder how big an effect it has. Also worth noting that only 100 of 555 stores (18% maths fans!) ever stocked it in the first place. That explains why I've never seen anything Wii U related - ever - in my local stores.
Also, Wednesday 31st July is another financial briefing - cue lots of sites suggesting Nintendo will go mobile. Sigh. |

| Aye, as you've suggested ASDA have picked a curious week to pull Wii U support, what with New Super Luigi U and Pikmin 3 just coming out. The ASDA in my town was one of those that sold Wii U games, and it wasn't really that many of them (just launch stuff, in fact). I still think they'll come back on board once Super Mario 3D World and Wii Fit U are out; there's no chance in hell ASDA won't sell those.

Grammar fans would point out that you're suggesting that 18% of ASDA stores are maths fans. Less "being-an-arse"-ly, We can write off ASDA not having much of an effect, but Pikmin isn't one of Nintendo's core franchises. It probably would never have really sold much at ASDA either way. As you say, they'll probably come back on board for Mario and Fit, but if they don't, you'd probably feel the effect more with those titles. EDIT: Also, if they skip Wii U Call Of Duty. |

| This really isn't good news for Nintendo, if I'm blunt. The fact any store is pulling it out shows that sales for the thing are absolutely dire, and I really see no way Nintendo can turn it around. The genuine system selling games are still over a year away, the thing costs far too much and Nintendo are being far too stubborn about cutting the price with new competition about to drop, and their advertising has also been really bad (I genuinely didn't even know it had come out for over a week when it launched, like I said, bad advertising).
I'll be honest, at this point I really don't see the future being bright for the Wii U. The last system I saw pulling the sorts of things it is was the Vita. It may get to Gamecube levels if it keeps going at it, but they've really messed up how they've handled things so far. I until recently believed they could still pull a 3DS and make a comeback, but as of right now I no longer believe they are going to do that.
I hope I'm very wrong about this, but that's what I feel after hearing this news. Well, the above and sad, because I've no doubt the Wii U is a fine system and I hate seeing nice systems do badly instead of well. |

| I've believed since E3 that the Wii U would come third in this/the next generation, but that's all. I don't think we'll see Nintendo pulling the Wii U early, and we certainly won't see them going under, as some would bleat. |

| I don't see how the Wii U will outflop the XBox One, to be honest. Seriously, who in the name of f**k is going to want an XBox One?

Now that they've backtracked on almost everything controversial, you mean? |

| Something I have learned over my life is to never have any faith in the general consumer. I fully expect the Xbone (sorry, I had to) to sell reasonably well. Not as well as the PS4 mind, but well enough that it'll be in the competition for a little while. Most people only care about instant gratification, so as long as Microsoft cater to that with the system they'll assure themselves a install base no matter how lousy the product actually is. |

Now that they've backtracked on almost everything controversial, you mean? It's £430. 'Seriously, who in the name of f**k is going to want an XBox One?'. I'm standing by that. |

| The extra £100 just for Kinect is the only thing putting me off a One, I want one as it has a much stronger looking launch year than the PS4 but I can't afford either really. |

It's only a supermarket that has removed it from its shelves, hardly like its a huge online retailer. Clearly supermarkets can't shift games consoles, they're hardly the kind of thing you pick up while you're doing your grocery shopping are they? |

| I wouldn't know, the grocery stores here in Australia don't stock anything gaming related to begin with.
Or at least the ones locally don't, it's been a good set of years since I've set foot in a city here so maybe things have changed since the old days. |

In Athrun's defense, he wouldn't have seen the sort of games ADSA stocked on Nintendo consoles. They were only interested in the big sellers. If it didn't have Mario, Sonic, or Lego on the front, then they probably didn't have it. Building up a Nintendo userbase with quirky, underground titles wasn't part of ASDA's entertainment remit. Shelf space is scarce, particularly with XBox One and PS4 just a few months away. They can't afford to devoting space to stuff that's just gathering dust. The day GAME and ShopTo can the Wii U stuff is the day to be worried as far as I'm concerned. |

| I have not found GAME to be all that great recently. Game & Wario, disappointing though it was, was a fairly major Wii U title. No sign. |

| I want q xbone but not at £430. I was telling you weeks ago this was going to happen it's the dreamcast and cube all over again. I agree wiiu will come last but I bet like the cube nintendo still makes money on it. And ASDA are still going to stock nintendos game's title by title so aspect likes of pokemon on 3DS and mario world on wiiu. |

| I wouldn't worry about ASDA - they're a supermarket, with no long-term strategy. If the WiiU picks up they'll soon have it back again. I still don't want an XBone - the Kinect still creeps me out, especially given MS's involvement in the privacy scandal. Yet everyone in the media still does. THE FOOLS |

| Its looking bad but I still don't think it is going to fail. There were massive queues to play Wind Waker at Manchester comic con and I had to wait to get my hands on it so there is definitely interest in it.
Also more Monster Hunter on Nintendo is still win. |

| Want some depressing sales figures? 'Course you do. Caution: depressing sales figures within. (Although the 3DS, Wii, and Nintendo themselves are actually looking pretty good.) |

| Ah well. There's not much else to be said on the topic of sales figures, so...:homer: :queen: :geek:  :cherry: :maggie: ~ At least the games drought almost over for those of us with a Wii U. August looks really good for me: Ducktales on the 15th, Wonderful 101 on the 23rd and Rayman Legends on the 30th. There's also a new Pokémon Rumble and Splinter Cell next month too. |
