@Balla it did come out in the UK, I own it. It's unmasked that hasn't.

It's not grumpiness, TWA is a fine game, it's just not as special as it's made out to be. It's a decent puzzle platformer with a somewhat interesting narration (that gets kinda tired towards the end).
If you took away the narrative, I'm not that sure it would even be decent: it's not hard and there could have been so much more done with it.

Alright, that's time on Stage 2. No extension where there's no interest in one. Ten votes (eleven if I count Jay's evident enthusiasm despite his lack of Wii U) isn't great for a voting thread, but it's what I've got.
10th best Wii U game as voted by you goes up tomorrow! Feel free to talk about how great Nintendo Land was in the meanwhile.

10 isn't bad, I don't know how many voted in year 1 vote but with a fair bit of the forum without the Wii U, no longer on the forum etc

Absolutely nothing! It's just it got two different names ("Nobby's House Party" and "Nobby's Party") in the votes, I've seen it elsewhere as "Bumpie's Party"... So I was very confused!

I think it is Bumpie, and I've just invented the name Nobby because all the characters are phallic.

I'd have loved Nintendo Land far more if I'd had other players to play against. Jo and I have whizzed through the games once and the first time I played a Wii U was some Mario Chase in the larger GAME in the Manchester Arndale Centre. The single-player things aren't quite as fun... which is obvious, to be honest, but there it is.

I love Nintendo Land a lot more than Wii Sports. To me those are an actual competant collection of fun games, not inaccuarate motion sensing silliness. I have played it a fair bit in multiplayer and it just remains fun for everyone involved.

Sorry, I totally would have fired votes for Stage 2 if I could! 10's still respectable though! Most vote threads are around 10-15 anyways.

Tenth Place
Tenth Place:
Shovel Knight (22 points, 4 voters, 0 firsts)
(Shovel Knight also wins the Latecomers' Choice Award.)
Trailer: Dat pun though.
Music: Strike the Earth!
Weird Video: Butt Mode Activated!
Metacritic: 88%
You Said:
"I really thought I was going to hate this game, I couldn't have been more wrong. Platforming is so good, the world is a lot of fun and the challenge isn't as unfair as some hard games."
"Since Cave Story came out 2004, retro stylings have been through waves of enthusiasm by smaller developers, to the point where we all got a bit sick of them. In all fairness, this may be the industry maturing (similarly to when PlayStation owners accepted that Symphony of the Night was a Good Game, and 2D games weren’t, like – old). Sorry – off topic – my point is that being a retro-styled game isn’t enough to make a game quirky and interesting, but Shovel Knight has much more than nostalgia; gameplay, a wonderful soundtrack, and zany humour that’s actually humorous."
"SK SHOVEL KNIGHT! HE'S THE LEADER OF THE BUNCH, YOU KNOW HIM WELL HE'LL BURY YOU WITH HIS SHOVEL & SHOOT SOME SPELLS HE DOES IT FOR SHOVERLY, HE'S NO MARAUDER HE'S ON A MISSION TO DEFEAT THE ORDER OF NO QUARTER
SK SHOVEL KNIGHT IS CLASS!"
"The best advert for Kickstarter in the gaming world, Shovesy is the gift that keeps on giving. A charming 8-bit retraux platformer liberally sprinkled with essence de Capcom, the game took on a whole new dimension when the Plague Of Shadows DLC was released... FOR FREE. Amazing generosity, particularly when I enjoyed it more than the main campaign."
I Said:
Take away the last three people to slip their votes in, and SK would have been nowhere. Those last three gave it 19 points at the 11th hour, sliding it up into the 10th spot.
SK is a very solid action title with a good set of mechanics and some interesting characters that has utterly failed to grip me. I don't know why. Maybe it's the graphics - I'm no fan of NES-style visuals. Maybe it's the level design, something I found adequate rather than any higher adjectives. Maybe it's because it's on my 3DS rather than my Wii U.
I won't deny, though, that its soundtrack has more than won me, a chiptune sneerer, over. Or that it contains some most generous DLC. Or that it's taken several great bits of other retro games and smushed them together. I only wish that it had remained Nintendo (and PC I guess) exclusive, so that I'd be happier when the Shovester inevitably makes it into Smash 4. (I wrote this prior to yesterday evening, can you tell?)
They Said:
Celebrity Guest Arthur, King of the Britons
"ZOUNDS! but that shovel is a frightful weapon! When I think of the good uses yon Shovelling Knight could put it to! Weakening the structural integrity of French forts; uprooting shrubberies; burying the torsos of those who won't get the message; yay, even digging up the Holy Grail itself!
"Why, I'd offer the knight a position at my Round Table, were it not for his previous poor behaviour. All that treasure has been excavated from my land, without a single penny of tax being paid I'll warrant. Knights! Seize the spade! It's a sight better than the sword that moistened bint lobbed me, that's for damn sure."

Aye at least we can say from the off that Shovel Knight was robbed. TBH though I think that's still a strong place for an indie game and a good start.

Shovel Knight is pretty short, plus it's really surprisingly brilliant. I really didn't expect to love it but it's a top game.

It's on 3DS as well, right? Might get it there once that's fixed.
