| Feel rather sorry for the winner/biggest loser. It wears its heart on its sleeve and tries to be different - but it was too much. I quite enjoyed it. For the record, Mystery Voter Not Trying To Troll Me All That Much, I am pretty ambivalent about DQVII at the moment. It's definitely a bloated experience but now the job system's open for business and story moments are occurring, I'm warming to it. At the moment I'd rank it as a mid-tier DQ game. |

| Trouble is it needs to get to that, by which point (I'm blowing my cover a bit aren't I?) I'd long ago lost interest. The criminally underrated BSEL (can't believe only I gave it points this year) showed what JRPGs can do with pacing. I know DQVII and VIII are ports, but those aside, there's now no excuse for other JRPGs not to look, and learn.
Anyway, I agree with the first place - it's not the worst game there (just to clarify the nuance over Stella Glow: it's not a 'bad' game, but rather a bad game, the italics got lost in translation), but it's one that many of us would have bought, and be disappointed by. Ninty only had to release a new Star Fox which (as Zero says) didn't try too hard to be new. Instead they broke it by over-innovating, which is a worry for any future F-Zero or Metroid games. And as arguably the Wii U's last big 'triple-A' release that's not getting a Switch version, it had extra responsibility to shoulder, making it extra-disappointing when it crashed and burned. |

| I knew it was you. I totally respect your position - I just wanted to let you know that better stuff lies beyond what you've played so far. As for Bravely Second, it was fourth on my list. My reasons for not enjoying it as much as yourself are documented elsewhere. For me, neither new Metroid nor new F-Zero need any novelty to work - they just need to be well-made games on the Switch, which is its own gimmick (I don't mean 'gimmick' in a bad sense here!). Finally, just to let you know, I cringe a bit when I read "F-Zero". / |

| I'd have to counter Jim there by saying that the main Star Fox games have always been tech demos - the Super FX chip, Rumble Pak and the ill-fated GamePad respectively - so they are somewhat akin to each other, at least in my noggin. Perhaps Star Fox One on the Switch will cast off those shackles and be a thumping good game... but I'm not holding my breath. |

A whole one point! Yeah I was just pointing out that I found Andy's mistake to be quite funny, actually happy with MH Gen's placement considering there aren't many of us on the forum that play it. --- So, onto Starfox Zero, even if we are saying this award is for most disappointing game I'd say that is very harsh as for me the only disappointing thing about it was there wasn't more levels to play. Oh and the Gyrowing stage that can get tae fuck but otherwise it's a game I had a lot of fun with. |

| The ride never ends! Honourable and Dishonourable MentionsA breather before The Big One - here's the rest of the best. - Honourable Mentions:
The 3DS - Had a quietly good year! Okay you might have needed to be into JRPGs, but all the best and most discerning gamers are, right? ...right?
Nintendo's marketing department - I slammed them last year, only fair I should praise them this year. Was it due to Kimishima? Whyever it was, they got the Switch reveal bang on, and I even saw some adverts for 3DS games this Yuletide!
Star Fox Zero - just outside my Wii U Top Three, this. The best way to describe the controls is that they "reward patience", to be sure, but the storyline is the best of any Star Fox game. I should revisit and find some other paths through the game.
Pokémon Blue - the nostalgia!
PES 2017 - I can’t stress how good PES 2017 is – I’ve had it for 6 weeks and already on my fifth season of Master League (50+ hours). Can I give it all 3 of my Top 3 positions? Pweeasee…”
Pokémon Go - This was the most fascinating thing that happened in gaming for years. I wouldn’t call it a classic game or anything like that, but it was a compelling for sure. Everybody was daft about this in the summer, and I don’t remember any game capturing folks’ imaginations like this did. Retro Gamer Magazine – They’ve been getting it so right for the last nine/twelve months – fantastic.
- Dishonourable Mentions:
The Wii U - Nuff said.
Mid-gen. power upgrades - Nintendo started it with the New 3DS, so they are bad and they should feel bad. A stupid, wasteful idea. The basic consoles won't be abandoned, so what we're left with is a bunch of unnecessary electronic landfill-filling, mostly so that developers can shift around slightly more pixels than anyone cares about.
Firewatch - Literal bum nugget of a game.
Miitomo - It was good internet silliness for a few days, but it just didn’t have a tail. I’d quite like to see Nintendo retire the Miis; they’ve had their day.
White Denim’s Ha Ha Ha Ha (Yeah) – The tune from the original Switch video. I’ve had this in my head for about three months, and it’s not even that good. A special dishonourable mention for all the hipster arsehole games journalists who immediately came out and said that White Denim were their favourite band. Bollocks! Go back to earning 4p an hour and fuck off to peado island. Shantae: Half Genie Hero - I wish there'd been another level, or the penultimate level had been longer. Just not quite enough to get my teeth into. Shame.
Star Fox Zero - Just too fiddly, and so frustrating on so many levels. I don’t think that this should ever be remastered: I just think that it should be redone.
VR - Next year, maybe, it'll come into its own. This year, an unnecessary and distracting mess.
Leak culture - Nuff said.
My Nintendo - I’ve got 290 gold coins sitting in my account, doing the square root of hee-haw. Jesus Christ lads, someone support this! It’s somehow much worse than Club Nintendo.
- I say:
Star Fox Zero is without a doubt the most discussed game in these awards, I reckon. It keeps popping up!
Tonight... it all ends. |

| You got on with the controls Jas, that's the big difference. It's why I champion KIU, so it's not like I don't understand both sides. (The Gyrowing stage can indeed 'get tae fuck', mind.) And now onto the mentions! Cappa's dishonourable is obviously the best , however I'd like to disagree with the person who said Miis should retire. I like them, they're cute fun little avatars that feel very Nintendo in their simplicity and cartoony nature. I do hear that they're being downgraded on the Switch, but to my mind that's no good thing. ( Miitomo is indeed poor, mind.) I'd also like to ask this person, and indeed everyone else: if Miis are to be replaced, what would you like to replace them with? Incidentally, one of my dishonourables missed the cut again (sorry Jay, I know you're working hard on this!): ' Anyone who thinks that share prices rising or falling is news in and of itself, ever'. |

| I don't remember a second of the song. Anyway, enjoyed people kicking their dishonourable mentions. And, yes, Star Fox Zero has got plenty of chat - maybe the divisive controls were purposeful so that folk like us would keep talking about the game, months after its release! Canny. |

I think they're still going to be there as your player avatar of sorts paired to your My Nintendo account, but I think they'll be stripping back their inclusion in games. As for the missed dishonourable, literally no clue what happened there - it's not even in my document with all the results. |

| I don't get the dishonourable for mid-gen upgrades as we've had them since the GameBoy with the Colour (Nintendo says they're one system) and that had exclusives. I think this is aimed more at the PS4 Pro which doesn't have exclusives and like the name says is a Pro version of the base version, I don't get why you would begrudge someone like myself who wants something that will take advantage of my 4KTV (when I get one), along with the other benefits.
Star Fox Zero controls are awful and unlike SMG, lots seem to agree otherwise it wouldn't have been voted the worst game.
Fire Watch is a belter of a experience of story telling and shouldn't be even talked about like that.
DQVII is remake not a port, that Squenix could have improved the pacing if they wished.
Another weird one is WWE 2K, I don't like the games but how long have the games been sims and knowing that I don't buy them because of it. |

| And now for your main event! The Golden Grackler Award for Forumite of the Year (11 ballots, although one voter only gave one vote out of two)This forum is a properly special place, but it'd be nothing without our wonderful forumites. It's with great pleasure that I get the chance to share all the great praise lavished upon said forumites and unveil our forumite of the year! - Third:
=Muss (2 votes)“I look forward to reading a Muss post. It's almost always either chock-full of great points and things to push a discussion onwards, or is simply just full of the famous #bantz we're known for.” =Jimbob (2 votes)“Another guy who is both funny and interesting, what more do you want?” “It's been a good year for the big man.” =Drunkalilly (2 votes)“Still the beating heart of GNamer. I shudder to think of the forum without him, as he's always there to raise an interesting point, scribe a thought-provoking article or just to make us smile with a humorous post. Top stuff from a top guy.” “Always a strong contender for the award and this year is no different, classic mix of interesting and funny posts that keeps the forum worth visiting.”
- Second:
JayMoyles (4 votes)“My second favorite all-around outstanding moderator man. Ever vigilant, and armed with wise words and a dazzling array of Gifs. Has shown admirable restraint in maintaining GNamer's heritage under his stewardship, but the fans are ready for the Moylesification of GNamer now .” “I feel like I'm repeating myself. Yup, I am. Still a man who throws himself into every forum project with aplomb. Remember when he/you vanished from here in 2014? So glad he's/you're back!” “I know it’s cliché at this point for the organiser to do well in this vote, but the admins do a hell of a lot of great work and Jay still finds time to be top bantz, to play online with loads of us and to be The Main One on some cracking audio content, so I’ve got a lot of time for him.” “He's running the forum awards this year and is, for all intents and purposes, a thoroughly nice chap.”
- First:
ZeroJones (6 votes)“We all know he’s a Nintendo man but he still likes to chime in on Nontendo and all things happening in gaming and everything going on on the forum.” “My second favorite all-around outstanding moderator man. Always friendly and well written. Wields that ban-hammer with much style. Officer Gordon once forgot to say that he's the mod GNamer needs and the one they deserve.” “I feel like I'm repeating myself. Yup, I am. Zero is still the wise old young-ish man of the forum. Reading his posts feels remarkably calming.” “I am going to vote for ZeroJones based on his charming, often silly diversions. He’s also a warm, welcoming person on a forum that can seem off-putting to newcomers. He chimes in on any conversation and has an open mind, whilst maintaining the loyalty to Nintendo.” “It’s been a good year for the big man.”
- Loved:
(all of the below received one vote)The Cappuccino Kid“Not just any Cappuccino Kid, you understand - THE Cappuccino Kid. The one who's made Simply The Best a fabulous thread to take part in. The one who's capable of both sensible and measured contributions alongside astoundingly witty stuff in the Kirby's rumour thread. The one who is going to make sure he gets to Newcastle this time so that I can shake him by the hand for being a ruddy excellent forumite.” Athrun888“I feel like Athrun has allowed GNamer into his life in a big way, getting more involved in multiple chats, forming friendships, joking with us and letting the GNamer way infect him. To me, Athrun represents the very best of what being a member of this forum can mean for someone, and I hope we’ve had as positive an impact on his life as he has on ours.” Balladeer “He will always be in contention for this one for me, based on sheer volume and opinionatedness (check your dictionaries, I'm not sure about that one) alone. Added to that that he is always a scholar and a gentleman ready to add his own special flavour of #bantz to the forum, and we have a mighty fine forumite.” masofdas“Top quality posts spill forth from this man like posts from a top quality post dispenser. I like his monthly release lists and always find them to be the highlight of my morning poops.“ gjones“I think most would say this a shock pick as gjones is fairly new but I feel he has stayed around unlike some and he revitalised things like the Retro section.”
- I say!:
I'd like to share a sentiment left by the forumite who chose not to submit a ballot for this category: “You know what? I know this is an important decision, but I'm going to have to abstain from this. All the regulars are lovely wonderful people. Picking two wouldn't be possible.”
I think that's a really great standpoint to have, and one that rings true. You're all wonderful people! I'd be remiss not to thank the four of you who chose to vote for me, so thanks very much for your kind words, and of course, congrats to my admin-in-arms for his much-deserved win!
We actually discussed having us removed from the Forumite of the Year award ballot to shine more light on you lot... might be something we'll go ahead with next year, I think.
And that's all, folks! Thanks very much to all who voted and to all who've read the thread! We'll see you next year, provided the world hasn't melted down under Trumpocalpyse 2017. |

| Hard to argue with the admins winning this one, considering the work they do for us. Feel like it's a slight slap in the face to let Zero win in Jay's vote but can't take it away from the lad. Top blokes. And glad to see the bantstastic trio take third. Well, let me be first to say cheers to Jay for organising this, and here's to another 11 months of Nintendo chat before we come together once again to openly judge our friends. |

| Super thanks, guys - you're all too kind, too kind. The forum wouldn't work without every one of you forming a major part of it, to be honest, so if I'm FOTY, it's only because you inspire me to be so. Massive, hard-to-carry-because-there-isn't-really-a-good-place-to-grip-them thanks to Super Admin Jayseph 'Neku' 'Edgeworth' Moyles for organising, processing and posting all of this. Finally, as Drunka says, here's to the rest of 2017 being a knockout year for the forum! |

It's nice to see a healthy spread of different winners across all the forumite categories, and I feel like everyone who logs on every now and then got at least got an honorable mention for something. We're a good bunch all told.
Great job by Jay on the thread. |
