| Another N64 starter here. Could never see why so many people salivate over the SNES version, but I don't have the benefit of that nostalgia. |

| I was there from the start with Super Mario Kart, and have played them all at some point (can't fully appreciate DS or Super Circuit having played them many years after they were released).
How does a Mario Kart series vote sound to everyone? I'm pitching the idea now with the voting taking place in the run up to Mario Kart 8's launch. |

| But we did the Mario vote and wouldn't of the rest of kart games been in there even though DS might be the 37th best Mario game to me. |

| Eh, I think we'd need to wait until there are at least ten such games out there. And there's not a lot to appreciate in Super Circuit anyway, apart from the great-at-the-time-and-still-has-Sky-Garden soundtrack. |

| 64 was my first. I've played the rest (although Super Circuit for only a few minutes). |

| Even as a kid, I had an unnecessary amount of cynicism. "Mario Kart? Mario doesn't do racing games... this sounds like a horrible spin off. Boo!" Note that, at this time, we'd already had Mario Paint stinking up the joint. But then I actually saw it - and I think I initially borrowed it off a friend - and my cynicism was gone. #coolstorybro |

| It was Super Mario Kart for me, I think why many people say its their favourite is you can get by with just being good at racing whereas the later games have lost a bit of that. |

That's true, they do. They spend a lot of time talking up the handling as well. I can see why that would appeal to a certain type of player, but in my opinion, that's never what Mario Kart's been about. Having one player streaking ahead of the pack isn't fun in multiplayer. This is why Nintendo need to release F-Zero, to cater to their fans who want a serious racer too! |

Alternatively, you could spent each of the seven weeks discussing one of the seven Mario Kart console games, or even have a vote thread that breaks things down further, like best battle mode, best track, best character, and so on. |

This would be my choice, especially as we've got a vote going on at the moment. Would be a great opportunity to revisit all the games, through music videos on Youtube if nothing else! |

| I technically started with 64, I guess - I played both Super Mario Kart and 64 at a friend's house, but 64 was the first one I owned and really got into myself. Then I got every one since.
I remember loving Super Circuit at the time and playing it to death, but going back to it now is really difficult - the handling just feels really weird. |

| I think Double Dash was my first, It was fun but two people per kart wasn't that great, I did like how each driver (or pair) had a unique item to themselves though.
The DS was my favourite version, it was just balanced well and picking a heavy car actually felt like a viable choice. Do not like the Wii one, crappy controls, bikes.
For MK8 I just want to see King Boo make a return! |

| And since we're all on a nostalgia trip, why not go contribute some words to the Mario Kart Retrospective, it'll be revisiting all the console Mario Karts over the next seven weeks (give or take), starting with Super Mario Kart unsurprisingly...

| This image popped up on that internet thingy today, cue speculation on whether this is what the final character roster screen will look like, or whether it'll grow further à la Mario Kart Wii, and who are the three question marks going to be? |

On placement alone, I'd guess that only the two in the middle are placeholders, the other is 'Random'. |

| Obvious omissions: Diddy Kong, Mii, Bowser Junior. My guess: Mii in the bottom-right, with Diddy and BJ in the middle "all-baby" row. |
