I have the original film still sitting on my shelf, waiting to be watched. @Balla: Might have to check Frozen out on your recommendation. Probably a 'wait for DVD' film, though. |

| Finally saw Hobbit last night. Very good it was too. Dragon looked amazing but obviously ate into the effects budget for the "not making Orlando bloom look completely unnatural" department. - masofdas wrote:

Ooh, curious... gonna have to give that a Google... EDIT: Seen the trailer now. Gary Oldman! I'm sold. |

| On Saturday I saw The Hobbit 2 in 3D. The previous time I saw it was in 2D and, for the first time ever, I felt that the 3D actually added something to the film. Sadly I definitely feel that it was dragged out from the book. The book is definitely uneven but it is far more punchy than either film. In my memory the first film is an extended sequence of British TV actors going "Whooooooooooa!" and "Waaaaaaaaah!" as they fall off things. |

You're right about it being dragged out, but TH2 only cemented my view that Martin Freeman makes most things better just by being in them. Also the first film actually had some funny bits, as opposed to the second which was ALL DEADLY SERIOUS. (To be fair, I didn't think that the first film's combination of "sweeping epic LotR2" and "funny Hobbit-like" actually worked, but I wish they'd gone the other way.) |

| That's not what I've heard. But even if I hadn't, I cannot stand Ben Stiller at all. |

| I was pretty put off of Walter Mitty when I went to see Thor and they showed the longest trailer to anything I've ever seen. I can't imagine there was anything left in the film to see. |

| Popping up to say I agree about Martin Freeman, and also that I hope to see Walter Mitty at some point as I quite like Ben Stiller (admittedly based on Zoolander and Dodgeball). |

| I don't know if anyone is bothered but movie award season is starting soon only reason I bring it up as I've talked about it before with my J-Law bet. So I'm thinking if it's worth doing anything this year, I know what I would bet on to win things.

| Hello everyone! I've seen everything.
On the films mentioned, Secret Life of Walter Mitty is actually quite good. I'm far from a Ben Stiller fan, as an actor or a director, but it's kinda sweet without being too saccharin and kinda funny without being jarring. Both Hobbit films are long and stupid, but maybe that's just me (Though I do agree on Martin Freeman, he makes it just about bearable). American Hustle is kinda good but very lightweight and undeserving of all the awards recognition- a bit like Silver Linings Playbook last year. Again, Jennifer Lawrence is great in it, but she only has 10-15 minutes of screentime, and you spend the rest of the film feeling rather flat, waiting for her to come on and watch the whole thing lift.
12 Years a Slave, however, is absolutely phenomenal. It's amongst the best films I've seen this decade. Everyone has to see it. |
