I'm not fond of disaster movies, but Gravity is the most incredible visceral film I've ever seen. The visual effects in Gravity are above and beyond, by a long, long way, anything I've ever seen before. It's beyond immersive, you begin to feel as though you're floating in space. I cried tears of awe. Real tears, real awe. No film has ever made me do that before. It's amazing. Absolutely amazing. As for Danny Leigh's comment regarding the Lumiere Brothers and the Arrival of the Train at the Station, I'm not sure it's as important as them, but if you look back to anything that has been said to 'change' cinema subsequently (Jurassic Park, Jaws, Alien, Avatar, 2001), I do think Gravity deserves even more credit. The things Cuaron does with a camera. Wow. Sandra Bullock's performance is also incredible, whilst George Clooney is perfectly cast. You have to -have to- see it in IMAX and 3D, though. It'd be doing the film a disservice to not experience it as it's designed. It's the first time I've really been impressed with and moved by 3D, including Life of Pi and Hugo, neither of which did anything for me. |

| Well, I've gone 31 hours without sleep to spend about a minute having a brief chat with a casting lady before giving her my headshot and my details. Now I'm waiting to possibly maybe but probably not get called back for an audition. |

I thought Ed Norton & Eric Bana were great as Dr Banner, Norton didn't really have the best story to deal with though. Anyhow Mark Ruffalo signed a 5 picture deal surely one of those has to be a Hulk Movie? |

| I watched Zero Dark Thirty lat night, a very good film well worth a watch. But after watching I think Jessica Chastain should of won the Oscar not Miss Lawrence. |

| My girlfriend and I sat down to watch Zero Dark Thirty on Saturday night but soon gave up in favour of an episode of The Killing.
We also saw Thor: The Dark World (in my case, again) on Sunday. It's gone up in my estimation but I don't think it's as good as the original (fabulous film). |

| Saw a Hunger Games and Catching Fire double bill on Wednesday night. Very tired the next day but it was worth it - great films, both. Surprisingly close to the book (or my memory of it, at least), too. |

| Went and saw Thor last night then decided to stay and watch Catching Fire as well. Both great, both very big and sequelly, but neither of them quite captured what made the first film great. - Thor: The Dark World:
A fun romp to be sure, with great effects and great gags. Ecclestone was wasted; if he's willing to piss about with this, I don't see why he won't do another Who. The charm of the first film, for me, was the fish-out-of-water Thor business. There was little of that here but also a lot of Flash Gordon ham. Still, a million times better than the overrated iron man films. Also, two part credits scenes. One was a classic marvel sequel hook about the infinity stones but the other was just the end of the film and really shouldn't have been at the end of the credits.
- The Hunger Games: Catching Fire:
A good film, but being based on the last second book it never did stand a chance against the first film. Similar to that one, I was intrigued by the amount it decided to leave unexplained, but people who hadn't read the books didn't seem to have a problem there, so I guess it was okay. Plenty of scenes of Jennifer Lawrence in tight trousers, so I was satisfied.

| That's good to read, Jay - we're hoping to see that tomorrow. I saw Frozen and Monsters University last week - Frozen is alright enough but Monsters University was fantastic. That might be my film of the year. |

I wasn't expecting much, but it utterly, utterly blew me away and I can happily say it's one of the best films I've ever seen. Me and my friend agreed that our hearts were in our mouths at all times, it's so tense! @Jay: My friend texted me last night freaking out about The Hobbit 2. She loved it! @Zero: Glad you enjoyed Monsters University! That one exceeded my expectations. The only (major) criticism I can make is how tenuously it was linked to the original. Stupid, lame credits montage. |

| I have seen both Gravity and Frozen in recent times. Gravity was fine: I was on edge in the cinema, even feeling a little bit emotional at one point, but I don't have any strong abiding memories of it now. Dare I say that I actually liked Frozen more? Else is a great character. It had its flaws, to be sure (some occasionally odd pacing and one or two shoehorned-in songs), but I was smiling when it finished (two hours ago). |

| Watched Kick-Ass 2 finally. There were a few good laughs in there but it didn't have anywhere near the heart of the first one. The overall message was sort of despicable, I think, but oh well. It was fun in a mindless way. - shanks wrote:

Oh, I know why the scene was included but I just felt that it should have been in the movie proper instead of after the credits. I'm off to see the Hobbit tomorrow afternoon. I might watch the first one in the morning. I bought the extended cut but haven't seen it yet. |
