| If anything is going to do that I'd bet the farm on it being super Mario 3d world, worked for the 3ds.

| I thought it was Mario Kart 7 the helped the 3DS take off. |

| Possibly but I'm pretty sure 3d Land gave it a nice boost. |

| We should see MK8 early next year too.
...although while Miss Rogers' name is still fresh on our lips/keyboards, here's an article of hers from earlier in the year that's become yet more relevant... |

| Hopefully those things are related and something awesome is happening. Also, hopefully my Internet connection can be fixed. I now think it's more to do with BT than Sky... |

| I'm pretty happy with it being this way round, though it will limit the games I can play like this. Obviously anything pointer controlled isn't going to happen but when I next want to play something like Fire Emblem it'll be brilliant! Fingers crossed they will add in some gamepad controls though, then I'd enjoy Fire Emblem even, even more! |

It is only the ability to boot Wii games from the Gamepad right, not actually play them on the Gamepad?

As somebody on CVG pointed out, that'd mean you could play Wii VC games on the gamepad with gamepad controls, preventing Nintendo from charging a premium for Wii U versions. Sadly, that probably means it won't happen. |

| I might have a look later, see what's changed. I'm more likely to get distracted by Rayman and GTA Online though!
That's true... Ah well, I can dream! |

Sadly, that probably means it won't happen. Exactly. I did think, when I first unboxed the WiiU: "Surely no-one's ever going to need to try and use a remote with the GamePad's built-in sensor bar are they?" Oh Nintendo, you so crazy. |

| I just finished the update and minced about with Wii Sports Resort on the GamePad. Quite good. I hadn't thought of playing my Wii games on the GamePad before, but having the option to might make me go back to the stuff that doesn't overly rely on swinging the remote about and play them in bed. Kirby would be great in bed. |

| As I said on twitter Rhythm Heaven seems designed for off-TV gamepad play. You lack the HD lag which ruins a lot of rhythm games, and it only requires 2 wiimote buttons. |

The GamePad has a built in sensor bar? Yep. A lot of people are stunned by this. But yes. (After all, it's only two LEDs.) |

Sadly, that probably means it won't happen. Someone in the know just gave me a very technical explanation about why this wouldn't work - something to do with the fact that the Wii controllers use bluetooth while the gamepad uses 802.11n. I didn't fully understand it to be honest, but it seems like there could be a genuine technical issue as opposed to my initial cynical "Nintendo just want to make us pay to upgrade VC games" reaction. |

That depends on how the Wii U handles Wii Mode- if it's an emulator, like VC, then it's a fairly simple issue- the NES didn't use Bluetooth or 802.11n and those games still work. If it's an OS switch, it's a little bit more difficult- it would be doable in software, but would be more effective with hardware, which is obviously too late. I would argue that not putting that hardware in, however is a bit of a design oversight... |
