| If you're talking financially, then of course you can not compare them. Nintendo is in a much stronger situation financially than Sega was off the back of the Wii/DS, they have a second console that's going great guns to prop up their underperforming home console, and the financial climate is much tougher in general than it was back then. The home consoles are in similar places: the companies financially are not. And it's the finance of the companies that was the discussion topic. Or rather, the topic I didn't want to discuss, but seem to be discussing anyway. |

| Yeah it's hard topic not to talk about sorry and like you said Nintendo can keep the Wii U going for as long as it want's due to having the finance to back it up and keep on going unlike SEGA but actual numbers of the home systems as you put are very almost the same and you see the PS4 leaving the Wii U so far behind like the PS2 with the DC.
And you bring up the current financial climate that hasn't stooped the PS4 selling just over 7m and the Xbox One selling nearly 4.5m that's 11.5m combined in 6 month's at almost £400 ago. So people have got the money to buy a system. |

| I'm not saying the money isn't there: I'm saying that it's tougher to get it. I don't think, for example, that Nintendo's current laissez-faire marketing (if it can be called that) would have had such a drastic effect on sales in the early 2000s as it has today. Not to mention the oft-cited competition from 'phone and tablet gaming. Anyway, the financial climate's just one reason for the incomparability, and probably the least important. |

| Sorry to keep on but according to Axis fav person Emily Rodgers has reported that Nintendo are most disappointed with the Wii U's attach rate.

| The thing is, Nintendo can record a loss like that every year for about thirty before it matters, whereas Sega was coming off the back of the Saturn and the likes of Sega CD and Sega 32x. Nintendo will turn it around with Mario kart etc, even if they probably aren't going to dominate the generation. I wouldn't be surprised if they take second place. |

| I meant by the end of the generation, I think Nintendo will have a solid second place, and I'd be more than willing to make and uphold a slap bet to that effect. |

Play... and talk...? In response to your King's Field question - maybe... but with Sony rumoured to be codeveloping I think Project Beast is Demon's Souls 2. Plus, surely it'd make more sense for them to use a hot IP like the Souls series instead of returning to the King's Field series? |

| We do.
Nintendo has laid off all it's UK PR Team.
And here's what's rumored to be at E3 from Sony.
Uncharted PS4 3 Minute Trailer showcasing ”In-engine” footage interspersed with gameplay segments. Visuals are supposedly unprecedented and set a benchmark for console graphics. Summer 2015 release date. It looks absolutely stellar. Features tropical setting and differing time periods with Nate/Francis.
Media Molecule’s new title will be a landmark title for Morpheus. 3D world building, beautiful, quirky visuals.Extremely creative and fun. Possibly related to the ”Entwined” trademark filed last week by SCE. Late 2015.
Gran Turismo 6 is coming to PS4 as 1080p 60FPS repackaged title in the vein of Gran Turismo 7: Prologue. Stunning visuals, extra features (social connectivity, new tracks, dlc etc). Coming mid-late 2015.
God of War 4 teaser will be present – will be CG with snippets of in-engine footage.
Kill Strain trademark is related to Syphon Filter reboot for PS4. Sony Bend working on revamping the franchise. Stealth, beautiful visuals and a possible Winter 2014 title.
Wipeout is also making the transition to PS4. Source is unsure of who is developing it, but hints that it could be Sony London, Evolution, or Firesprite.
Quantic Dream has a trailer prepared - Expect Dark Sorcerer- like visuals in real time. Off-topic, but still relevant – they are close to deal to become a Worldwide Studios developer, along with Ready At Dawn.
Speaking of Ready At Dawn, The Order:1886 will get a stage demo.
Ninja Theory working on a PS4 exclusive – possible Heavenly Sword sequel.
Sony London will be at E3. First AAA title in many years. 3rd person title.
Guerrilla Games bringing their RPG to E3. Provocative setting – very interesting.
Sucker Punch busy at work on an inFAMOUS: Second Son DLC
Sony Japan Studios debuting two, maybe even three titles. Project Beast – spiritual successor to Demon Souls. The other is The Last Guardian. Retooled for PS4, possible Winter 2014 title. The Other title is shrouded in secrecy.
Evolution will give Driveclub some time in the limelight. It’s shaping up to be incredible with jaw-dropping visuals. Demo release will be timed with the press conference.
Alongside this ample selection of new games, the source also noted that Ubisoft, Electronic Arts, Konami, Capcom, Warner Bros, Activision, Square Enix and Take Two will all make appearances on stage during the event. Rockstar was originally included on this list, but the source followed up to clarify that Sony might make announce a next-gen release for Grand Theft Auto V on Rockstar’s behalf.
Beyond new games, Sony will also bring more huge titles to the Instant Game Collection, show off Project Morpheus, talk about the Sony Entertainment Network and PlayStation Now and announce a price drop for the PS3 and PS Vita. PS4 will be the focus of the press conference, but Sony will show some love to its various platforms and services throughout. |

I really should've said "discuss games" there I'm just beyond tired of the sales talk (in general not just on the forum) it's not really our business to know or care about it. --- You're probably right about it being a souls game I just think it could be something new or a reboot of an old series given the attention brought to the shotgun like weapon the character has. |

| I should have clarified there as well - I wasn't actually confused as to what you were saying, I got it, and I agree on that front as well. Sales talk bores me after a while. As the great King Reginald Fils-Aime once said, "we're all about the games". I am too.

- There is a feeling there is a "sing-when-you're-winning" element to this discussion. When Wii was riding high, sales- if not down to the granular level of actual numbers- were regularly used to undermine and invalidate any suggestion that someone might hold a legitimate preference for PS360 and its- sigh- "shootybang games" and nobody complained about that. Suddenly, now that Wii U isn't exactly performing it's Terrible and Wrong.

| I agree with the consensus, and yet I can't leave the subject alone. Every time it comes up, I feel the need to say something. Notice how in this very thread I went from saying how I wasn't going to talk about it, to... talking about it. I am ashamed. |

| On the sales talk it's news about a gaming company and its very very very unlikely to happen but if you grew up with Nintendo (Sega) and there bad sales etc continued they went, surely you would care. |

| How they going add it to the 3DS, but interesting how it's used. SMASH could be great if you have figure which you can train and use on it then take to a mates or use to battle it out. |

| There's a separate infra red device for the 3DS.
So Nintendo are homophobic or something. There were similar complaints when FE:A came out, although it is more relevant here as the game incorporates real people and should allow them to have relationships with whoever. Nintendo are handling it terribly. |
