| I've never tried a Wavebird as I preferred wires to having to charge batteries all the time, but I am a big fan of rumble. Not having it would irk me.
Although the rumble has to work, unlike the DS Rumble Pak which buzzed a lot but didn't actually rumble much. |

| The Cube controller is good, I've never tried the Wavebird but to me the best controller has to be the 360s which of course is just a evolution of the s-type. The One's pad is much the same but the bumper's aren't great. |

| Favourite game: Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (don't know, it just is awesome)
Worst game: I don't know. Perhaps Luigi's Mansion, because I'm absolutely useless at it?? Or New Super Mario Bros. 2 because it is so unoriginal.
If you've read, please read my next sentence: Have you noticed, on 3DS, Nintendo have gone absolutely MAD over COINS?????????? |

Fair enough, overall it just didn't feel any different to the normal version. |

| A couple of weeks or so late, I received the first ONM issue of my six-month deal. The Mario Golf one, if anyone's interested. Had a quick skim of it, and thought I'd report on my findings.
Firstly, it's really nice to have a magazine again. Flicking through the pages is satisfying in a way that scrolling down a webpage simply isn't. Secondly, it's nice to have something so purely Nintendo in my hands. Very few things seem to be, nowadays - I frequent CVG and here most, with CVG obviously being heavily multiformat and this place (mainly General Gaming) leaning further that way too.
Content-wise, there are a lot of four and six-page reviews and features, with MK8 and Affordable Space Advenutes getting six pages apiece. The cynical might say that this is because there's less stuff around on Nintendo consoles to talk about at the moment, and they need to fill the space somehow, but I've always liked the six-pager. Seems the right length for a good meaty feature.
The writing quality definitely isn't broadly NGamer standard, with attempts at wit frequently falling short - Chris is mostly a CVG man now, and Matthew (ably supported by Joe Skrebels) can't write everything. But a "Miyamoto's Teachings" passage at the end is definitely an attempt at an EndGC, so I'll give them points for trying.
Am I going to refresh my direct debit when my six months of sale-price are up? Yes, probably, depending on price; although that's mostly for the pleasure of having a magazine again. There's no better way to read Nintendo-friendly writing on the toilet. |

There's still more overall posts in the wii U section than in general gaming though, I think you (out of the old place regulars) may be the only one who just owns Nintendo consoles, so it only makes sense that multiformat has a big presence. |

| I thought someone would seize on that. Yep, I probably am (EDIT: wait no, I don't think Zero has a non-Nintendo console). I just remember the old days, when it was five sub-fora of Nintendo and two threads of other consoles, and I do sometimes wish we had "general Nintendo" and "general other formats" sub-fora so that I could ignore the latter. Of course, I wish for a lot of things for totally selfish reasons, and it's never going to happen. That wasn't the main point of my post above, and I hope it didn't come across that way!

You awful, awful man. ~ On another note, I don't usually advocate this but that issue of ONM that's in the shops doesn't have a seal over it, so you can flick through it and have a gander before you decide to buy it. I always like magazines like that, though I don't think it would have done Nintendo Gamer any favours (as I imagine a couple of thousand would have just read it off the shelf). |

(Actually it says "LIMITED EDITION SUBSCRIBER COVER" on the front, so yours might not be.) I bought it from A Real Life Shop and the cover is red. It was a good read, although it felt a little... sparse? It reminds me of that fantastic forumite a few years ago who complained that NGamer had "words everywhere" whereas ONM didn't, which made it much better. You really felt like they tried to squeeze a load of content into NGamer and I didn't sense that on reading ONM. I think it's all the better for Matthew editing it, though - when I read ONM in the past so much of it read like it was written by someone trying to be kerrazzzyyy!!! |

| We get most of the newspapers in the break room at work and I've taken to reading The Daily Star because all the other papers have got so many words in them and I refuse to lower myself quite so far as The Sun. |

| We have all the papers like that but whenever I try and read one it just winds up irritating me with something inaccurate or misleading or just made up. I take a book now. |

| I miss the glory days of N64 Pro, which advertised sixteen-page reviews on the cover that only featured a few boxes of text. Mind you, that text was solid gold: they actually used the phrase "fifty quid is a lot of pints, and a lot of kebabs" in one of their N64 reviews. Definitely quality over quantity. |

| I wasn't expecting it to reach NGamer's giddy standards, and it didn't. As you say, Rum, it didn't feel as PACKED WITH CONTENT as NGamer did - a little too slick and corporate, a little "fun-size". But it's definitely better than it used to be. |

| Much better; listening to the ONM podcasts, Matthew was sort of indicating that they were sort of hoping to merge the two; ONM gets some Nintendo subsidisation, plug NGamer's laffs. The golf month has just introduced the "10 fan things" and art page (hosted by Yuga instead of Ganon). Guys, I think NGamer's doing a Shang Tsung fatality on ONM! |

| My Wii Fit U pedometer said I took 34,707 steps during my twelve hour shift in my pub job yesterday, losing 3,304 calories.
Basically: I don't think my Wii Fit U pedometer works. |

| [soapbox]The thing I want ONM to bring back from the NGamer days is the 'We're Still Playing...' feature. Not enough is written about actually owning games: all magazines do is preview, preview, preview, preview, preview, review, vault. DLC is helping to change that pattern but, y'know, more, please.[/soapbox] ~~~ The most I've ever managed in a day with my 3DS was about 20,000 steps, which was knackering. If that's been accurate, Cap, kudos to you! |

That's a solid point - the features in mags that I enjoyed the most were normally features revolving around games I was playing at the current time. |
