Single votes did get the full 5 and count as a first, it was still the thing that stood out above all in their eyes so I saw no reason why not to. Yeah that's how the rubbish excellent mario game won in the mario vote as more people thought it was great even though 64 had the most first places. The many out way the few or something like that. |

| Wait, no. SMG got more votes, so would have come first anyway. First places were only used in tie-breakers, to avoid awkward questions such as "shouldn't Palutena have come in sixth, seeing as five people placed ahead of her and that's the way it's done in e.g. Mario Kart?" Stuff like that. |

It's a pretty good console for Zelda games

IMO, the only Mario game that comes close to the first Sonic the Hedgehog is Super Mario 64. The best 2D Mario is Yoshi's Story. On my Cube, Cube I can play: Legend of Zelda x2 (GBA cart or on collector's disc) Adventure of Link x2 (GBA cart or collector's disc) Links Awakening Links Awakening DX Oracle of Ages Oracle of Season Minish Cap Link to the Past with Four Swords Ocarina of Time x2 (Wind Waker bonus disc or collector's disc) Ocarina of Time Master Quest Majoras Mask Wind Waker Four Swords Adventure Twilight Princess It's a Zelda paradise the GameCube is. |

| The Hooray Nintendo Have a Decent Online Shop Award for Best eShop Title- Fifth:
Gunman ClivePoints:11 First places1 You say: "The visual style, the music, and the satisfying gameplay help to overcome the game's shortcomings, like... er... its shortness. Also, apparent Cowboy Bebop references, and a locomotive transformer boss." I say: A game I've managed to totally miss. Not even heard of it! Better check this out I suppose.
- Fourth:
Picross e (1+3)Points:14 First places0 You say: "Picross with no soul is still picross. Out of the three, this(e3) gets my vote because mega-picross is great. YES, ZJ, GREAT." "before I played Picross, it seemed to me that there was some kind of witchcraft involved. Now I'm no longer a muggle (thanks to they superb tutorial system) this is clearly a superior puzzle idea than Sudoku. and I drawed a bunny" I say: I love Picross, I've not had a chance to pick up 2+3 yet but I loved the first. Always a joy to picross!
- Third:
VVVVVPoints: 20 First places2 You say: "Basically it reminds me of the old days (I'm not stupid enough to really think of them as the "good old days"); rooms with individual funny names; a completely illogical enemy roster; cast with a dry English sense of humour. Nicely." "innovative retro style fun that is despairingly hard? I'm in!" "Because it's one of the games that I actually played to completion. The soundtrack is exceptional, the 3D is pretty good, it's pretty funny, and it doesn't outstay its welcome." I say: A brilliant but tough little indie game. A must buy for anyone who likes platformers and a challenge. Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Dual DestiniesPoints: 20 First places 2 You say: "One of the best Wright Games, plenty of twists although I found that I was surprised very little by the eventual culprits. Athena is a good character but I feel some of the other new characters are very weak. Not on the level of Apollo Justice IMO." "This game is going to get such a lot of flack in these awards, for being darker and not as good as 1 or 3. True, it's not; but it's still PW. It still has moments of genius writing, the prosecutor is much better than Klavier Eurotrash Gavin, and it has a great remix of T&T's Objection theme. A poor Phoenix Wright remains a good game." "Hmm... the graphics are good, the voices don't irritate too much, the mysteries are well crafted... but it never quite delivers that dialogue gold that Takumi is the master of. I haven't popped it into my 3DS yet, but I'm certain that Layton/ Wright is gonna blow it away." I say: As a big fan of the series it's awful that I've not played this yet. Glad to hear it's good though!
- Second:
PullbloxPoints: 33 First places 4 You say: "A fabulous little puzzle game that really made you feel like a genius every time you beat a level. Fallblox was a perfect sequel as well." "Challenging, clever, uses the 3D effect well, what more to say? This game is amazing." I say:Fantastic little puzzler that drove me mad towards the end. Shame I lost my 3DS before I finished it.
- First:
Steamworld DigPoints: 37 First places 4 You say: "It dared to put a structure on the mining/looting genre, and succeeded, managing the "just 5 more minutes, I'll just dig out those gems" feeling. Small, but concise. Bonus points for the guy in charge of the company being a nutcase." "most of the way through playing it, I was thinking "This is s***" - but I couldn't put it down. The story unfolds beautifully." "Mr Driller X Metroid, and the game is as amazing as that sounds." I say: A fantastic game that I couldn't put down. It was so addictive despite the very basic nature of the gameplay. Indie perfection!
I'll be back later with the innovation award! |

| Who actually has played Gunman Clive? I was considering getting it because it got good reviews, it's cheap, and it looks interesting, but I don't know anyone who's bought it.
I was pretty certain we'd see SteamWorld Dig, Pullblox and Phoenix Wright - I'm just glad to see other people recognised how good VVVVVV was as well! |

This is pretty much how I felt about SD, bar the story not existing. I found it difficult to put down, but once I did so, I didn't want to pick it up again - because it was s***. (Or at most average.) And yet somebody gave it a vote based on these criteria? I've always been a bit meh on Pullblox, but I can see its appeal. I've never got around to VVVVVV and it always looked too tough, but again, I can appreciate what I've seen played. And the other three I voted for. But I'm really struggling to see what everyone else sees in Dig, especially as someone who's usually a Metroidvania fan, and given that one of its three comments seems to be, "Why was I playing this rubbish?" Basically, it is my Journey. - Rum Rapture wrote:

I gave it my second place. It looks, sounds, and plays like a dream, but it's a bit small. And, er - well, that's my comment underneath it. Sums things up nicely, I think. |

| I'm another one who has Gunman Clive, and quite enjoy it - it was a toss-up between Clive and Bike Rider DX in the 'cheap-but-actually-well-good-and-properly-better-than-a-lot-of-full-price-retail-games' stakes. It likely would have been sixth in my list. Good stuff at £1.99.
SteamWorld Dig was top of my list too. Looking at what I had played and could consider for my list however, it's pretty clear that I've still got a ton of stuff left to try out, like Hyrdoventure, Fallblox, and that Samurai: Art of the Sword game. |

(Or at most average.) And yet somebody gave it a vote based on these criteria? Yes, someone did. The ellipsis to what that someone said was "I'm still voting for it". 'Most of the way through' was an overstatement on someone's part, perhaps - maybe that feeling only lasted for the first quarter of the game? Someone should probably take more time to write their comments! This someone has raised a wider question: does a game have to be great (or felt to be great) all the way through to be considered a great game? Someone would argue "No, but it has to be great for the majority of its play time". |

| Yes, I'd agree with that. No game is going to feel brilliant for every moment you're playing it (eh, let's give that some context before I'm deluged in counterexamples - no primarily one-player game over a certain length), but you'd expect it to keep you entertained for most of its playthrough. Nobody's going to say that SMG is rubbish purely on the basis of that purple coins above-the-water Bee Mario star! |

| There have definitely been games where long sections of dullness are made up for by an incredible moment or twist. A nice example would be the recent Spec Ops game, which was made up of fairly standard shootybang but used that to make a real point. But games which are genuinely brilliant for the duration, like Dark Souls, will always be remembered better. |

| I'm having a bit of trouble with how to type up innovation. It didn't quite work out as well as I had hoped. The difference in how people voted didn't quite slot together an obvious top 5 so here is a very rough top 5 of what I reckon fits together. The Great Innovation Award for Best use of 3DS features- Fifth:
Super Mario 3D Land Puzzle Rooms You say: "There haven't been many great uses of the 3D, but being able to complete these little optically illusionary challenges without resorting to the in-game eye button has been one of the best." "Still the best use of 3D on 3DS. Going back to 3D World was like losing an eye, given how the 3D effect inspired confidence in us all to make all those daring jumps and moves we wanted to."
- Fourth:
Pullblox use of 3D You say: "The puzzles are far harder when you turn the 3D off and it just could not have worked anywhere near as well on a 2D screen."
- Third:
Kid Icarus Uprising AR cards
- Second:
Bravely Default/Norende You say: "This little resource management minigame, which has very significant in-game effects, is to my mind the best in-game use of Streetpass. I did more Streetpassing in the hope of getting someone, anyone, in this JRPG-phobic country to contribute to my village and shopping, than I have done for any other paid-for game. Then I resorted to Spotpass in despair." " It looked fabulous, its painted backgrounds brought to live from 2D (and made much easier to navigate), it had well thought out online and local wireless functionality, and all round felt very accommodating to portable play. Great to see a third party come up with this." "Building Norende using StreetPass was brilliant. As was sending and receiving summons from other players, and building affinities - I always made sure I updated things accordingly following StreetPass hits even if I didn't play any more of the quest for a while."
- First:
Animal Crossing New Leaf/Happy Homes "Being able to grab houses from nearby 3DSers is such a great idea." "This game just used every single feature of the console to incredible effect. The streetpass, the QR reader, online multiplayer, the touch screen, the internal clock . . . Animal Crossing was made for 3DS and 3DS was made for Animal Crossing." "gives every one of the 3DS's features something to do. Incredibly well thought-out." "Getting houses by StreetPass is a great social feature, but the online mode really shone, particularly in-game text chat as well. Many hours were wasted conversing with fellow forumites." "visiting the houses of passers by and buying their stuff from the catalogue!"
Sorry it's a bit naff but a normal format wasn't great for it and it looked a bit butchered! I'll be back this evening with the far superior Most Anticipated award! Edit: now with comments!

| No comments? Oh well, it's fine because you're going to put up all the comments at the end, riiiiiight? I voted for numbers 2 and 5, but included two other forms of innovation from KIU. Very surprised that the Streetpass games didn't make it in. |

| I'll try and get some comments in there later. I just got very angry after losing the post I'd already typed up. Streetpass games were so split up over the votes they couldn't really compete. Almost every vote for them was for a separate game. |

| Its aerial control scheme, yes. It played like a dream in the air. Also, the coins being used for the trophies.
I gave a general vote to the Streetpass games, although it was mostly Puzzle and Quest I was thinking of. I can see why they'd be split though. How many did they get in total, may I inquire?
Andy, quick (late) question: what was the votes split between Picross e and e3? |

I had to buy an extra accessory so I could play the game. I voted for the AR Kid Icarus, 3D in Layton Vs Wright and A Link Between Worlds and steetpas in Kid Icarus and A Link Between Worlds. I think they work better in those games than the streetpass games as they're still good with smaller numbers of streetpasses if you live somewhere remote like Manchester. |
