| The Hypeometer Award for the Most Anticipated 3DS Game- Fifth:
Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace AttorneyPoints: 18 First places 2 You say: "At time of typing, this mix-up of two of my favourite DS series is still not out here - but better Layton never, Wright? While NGamer-as-were were critical, my overwhelming love for both franchises may well smooth over several of the flaws." "I've got it on my shelf and I'll be cracking on with shortly, I'm sure." I say: I'm very excited about this game, I love both series so I'm definitely going to love this. As soon as I get around to playing AA5 this will head straight into the game slot.
- Fourth:
Kirby Triple DeluxePoints: 19 First places 3 You say: "seems to be Epic Yarn in terms of quality, if not style." I say: I've not played many Kirby games but this is definitely looking like another point to dip into the series.
- Third:
Monster Hunter 4 UltimatePoints: 24 First places 3 You say: "Cannot come soon enough, I would explain why this is my most anticipated but I have been trying to read as little as possible. If they manage to iron out some more 'liberal' online format then we have a system seller on our hands." I say: Just looking at the pictures for Monster Hunter gets me excited for a return to the series. I've still got plenty to do in 3 Ultimate but I'm still very excited for strapping on my sword or hammer and taking out some giant beasties!
- Second:
Mario Golf: World TourPoints: 29 First places 2 You say: "This could go either way. Toadstool Tour was golden; Mario Tennis Open, unpolished tin. While the Mii mode reminds me a bit too much of the mistakes made in MTO with its massively unbalanced Miis, I remain hopeful." "I've never played a Mario Golf game before; now seems as good a time as ever to start." "love me a bit of Mario golfing, and I'll be able to play it on the train?! Where do I sign?" I say: Not sure how I feel about this one. I enjoy the odd game of golf/mario sports but I'm not sure a handheld is where I want to play it. I guess we shall see.
- First:
Super Smash Bros for 3DSPoints: 35 First places 2 You say: "Even with a Wii U version to dull the hype, I'm still excited for this. Smash Bros. in my pocket? With a beautiful sorta-cel-shaded look from the outlines? Sign me up! And give me playable Ridley." "because everything." "not usually that excited for Smash, but the first handheld version has me strangely intrigued." I say: I didn't want to want this game. Unfortunately that Direct has my heart set on buying both versions now. Bring on Smash Bros!
Thanks for the well wishes, feeling better today! This evening will be retail and world! |

| Bravely Second was robbed! This is what happens when you don't vote, Athrun! Still, a worthy list - apart from MH5, every one of them got a vote or honourable mention from me. Just a shame that PLvPW lived up to NGamer's comments rather than my hopes... |

Nah, I've just not got into the Monster Hunter series. I'm not a big online gamer, even less so MMORPGs; and there's something about a series that is mostly about murdering the innocent fauna to make into weapons that turns me away. (I know, I know, Pokémon.) I'm sure it'll be great for series fans, though. |

| I voted for PWvPL (which I had already completed) and Smash Bros. TBH, I had a hard time coming up with more after that, so I stuck Sonic Boom (even though we know nothing of the 3DS version), Pocket Football (which I was already playing when I sent in the votes) and Shante.
Other than Smash Bros, there isn't actually anything I'm buying for the 3DS that's currently announced. But I'm sure that at least one good game that isn't an RPG will be announced at E3. |

| Get ready for a lovely serving of results! The Pfft, Skyrim Who? Award for Best World on 3DS- Fifth:
Hyrule (A Link Between Worlds)Points: 10 First places 1 You say: "2nd only as it's almost the same as another world." I say: It was beautiful and great fun to return to a world I loved so much in my childhood.
- Fourth:
Animal Crossing TownPoints: 12 First places 1 You say: "Alright, a bit unfair as it's my world, but the fact I can craft it in my own image and still hold a high-level administrative job is saying something." "I'm very fond of it." I say: Agreed on it being a tad unfair you cheeky commenter you! Obviously an easy world to get attached to if you put so much time into cultivating it.
- Third:
KalosPoints: 14 First places 0 You say: "Bonjour, tout le monde! Maintenant, nous allons en vacances avec notre Pokémon. Il est interdit, liberer les types de feu dans la bibliothéque. Eh, gros enfant qui dance, tais-toi. T'as rien interessant a dire. (waits for ZJ to tear it apart)" I say: Not a world I've had the pleasure of exploring yet. I think I'll wait until the inevitable second version before I take the plunge.
- Second:
LorulePoints: 16 First places 2 You say: I say: I couldn't find any comments for this so sorry if I've missed yours! I loved seeing the differences between the light and dark world. A joy too explore alongside the more familiar Hyrule.
- First:
Hyrule (Ocarina of Time)Points: 25 First places 5 You say: "Sorry 3DS games, but you still don't have what it takes to compete with the N64's best. Yes Hyrule Field is a bit empty, but you can go right the way up that mountain, or into that lake, or gallop around it all on horseback, all with minimal loading pauses. Castle Town almost deserves its own vote, but if we're going with full worlds then OoT's Hyrule is still top after all these years. (If not, give this vote to Castle Town. Ding ding dingedy-ding, ding ding dingedy-ding, ding ding dingedy-ding, dingedy dingedy ding.)" "is this cheating? You know the drill... Lake Hylia, Kokiri Forest, Goron City, Kakariko Village, Market Town... I'm aware this is nostalgia, but, come on..." "I didn't vote for the game because it was an innapropriate port for a handheld, I thought, and other games “got” the 3DS in much better ways, but damn son! That Hyrule. It never gets out of your head after you visit it. I still probably know my way around that Hyrule better than I do the town where my parents live . . ." I say: I'm definitely calling nostalgia on this one. A 16 year old world is the best we've got on 3DS? Madness! The Box Fondling Award for Best Retail 3DS Game- Fifth:
Kid Icarus: UprisingPoints: 20 First places 2 You say: "I nearly didn’t get it due to being left handed. I took a bet that the DS thumb stylus would work well and I’m definitely glad that I did." "The bravest game on the console, it dared to be different. Whether that worked or not is debatable, but even if you don't like the controls, you can't deny that it's not an ambitious project: throwing everything but the kitchen sink into the game, using every one of the console's features (the good ones, I mean, not the gyroscope or microphone) with aplomb, and wrapping it up in a surprisingly well-told tale. "The extra 'h' is for HA-MAY-ZING!" "funny, smart and action-packed. The unlockables and on-line mode give KI:U legs that most home console games can't manage." "So much replayability, and the boxed version is the best because it comes with the awesome stand, which I use all the time." I say: Glad to see so much love for this game. I'll definitely have to get back into it if it's a fantastic as you all say!
- Fourth:
Luigi's Mansion: Dark MoonPoints: 22 First places 0 You say: "Peaked too early and ran out of ideas too soon, but this was still a blast to play." "Lost a bit in its mission-based structure; gained it back in atmosphere, gameplay, and (surprisingly) difficulty. But it's Luigi who makes this game, with his nervous antics and comic scenes cementing him as a more likeable protagonist than his brother. And how about that antagonist? Not the marshmellow, the cute one. D'awwww." "A delicious little adventure that's broken down that classic Nintendo exploration flavour into perfect handheld chunks. Luigi's brilliant rubber-faced antics and cowardly character charmed the hell out of me and this made his year a year to remember." I say: I agree with commenter 2. A wonderful game slightly marred by the mission structure.
- Third:
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3DPoints: 26 First places 1 You say: "Still the best (retail) game on the system for me, I have no gripes with this game other than it being easy, and there is always master quest!" "Is this the best game ever? Well, no, but it's a port of a contender for the post of the best game ever, that fixes the one thing that had grown tired over the years (the graphics). As a game on its own, taken out of the context of the original, it's possibly the best game on the console. As it is, it's still in my top five." "Yes, it's a port, but what a port it is! This game really helped during the lean first year period of the 3DS." I say: A game slightly spoiled for me by my own stupidity. Turns out that not all games have autosave and you should check before you turn the console off, especially after several hours of play through your least favourite part of the game.
- Second:
Animal Crossing: New LeafPoints: 33 First places 4 You say: "Had a great time in my village and hanging out online." "Insanely good value. A divisive game, but one I happen to enjoy very much." "How do you keep a game that revolves around participation all year round interesting? Answer: you cant. However this game boasts the best customization in the series to date." "the ultimate Nintendo time-sink wasn't for me, but when it got me I was totally hooked." I say: Enjoy your chores suckers!
- First:
The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between WorldsPoints: 42 First places 5 You say: "Choosing where to go felt great, and the dungeons are wonderfully designed." "Quite a perplexing title, the whole painting thing doesn't feel very inspired but! The visuals are lovely and the combat + items (barring the OP flame rod) are balanced well." "I'm saving the big write-up for the big vote, but this is my favourite 2D Zelda. I'm not sure that it's not in my top five Zeldas altogether. Does that say enough? No? The Maiamai theme. Your counterarguments are now invalid." "beautiful epic that played with LttP's world in inventive and clever ways." "What a cracking game. All the way up to release, despite all the reviews and all the previews and having a quick go at Comic Con, I just couldn't get excited about this game. It was re-using an old world, it had cutesy top-down graphics, it just screamed “New Legend of Zelda” at me and I thought it was going to be super forgettable. I have never been so wrong. Played a treat, looked great, came with a gorgeous gold 3DSXL and the music is absolutely ridonks. A perfect game to sit and play over Christmas while ignoring my family." "A Link Between Worlds just pips Luigi’s Mansion 2 to it. Nintendo made the Zelda game I didn’t even know I wanted, given how much eye rolling was happening at the thought of a ‘sequel’ to A Link To The Past. But what we got was one of the best Zeldas in years, not only directed (and composed) by new talent, but taking a fresh look at how its structure should work, and with no filler to boot. It also didn’t feel familiar to the original at all, using your knowledge of A Link to The Past against you wherever possible. Great stuff." "An amazing game and achieved the impossible in getting me to abandon my Animal Crossing addiction." I say: Hooray, what a wonderful game this is! The first game since Fire Emblem to get me truly excited for playing on the 3DS. Couldn't put it down from start to finish. Best Zelda? I think TP might have something to say about that but I'd be happy to say it's the best 2D Zelda.
Sorry it's so late, I didn't expect it to take so long to type up! Come back tomorrow (Well today now) for the best of the rest and Most Wanted! |

| Bien fait, M. Français (although I happened to like the dancing kid, along with the rest of the group - slightly refreshing to be in a group of friends, 'advancing' 'together')! I didn't split Hyrule and Lorule, so apologies for making the vote harder! Great winner of retail title, as well, although I was pleased to see Kid Icarus land in there! And no Mario. |

I mean, LttP is pretty good, but I find it kind of frustrating. With all you guys raving about its sequel I really, really want to get stuck into it! |

| Wahoo! Both of my first places were both of the forum's. In fact, four of the retail top five were mine as well. (Also, I agree with Andyman's Zelda judgements! ) Is it a bad thing that a port of an N64 game did so well? It's OoT, so I'll go with no. Absolutely chuffed that the sublime ALBW beat ACNL into first place. Here's hoping that doesn't change for the Big Vote... I definitely don't think that's it just nostalgia speaking, with regards to OoT's Hyrule. It's three years in development, and Nintendo sweating blood to make the best game ever at the time (arguably). It's absolutely massive, crammed with stuff to do, and even changes between day and night. Hyrule Field is bland and boring, but that's the only criticism I can level at it. Also, I had a comment for Lorule if you wanted to use it! Granted, I only included it as an honourable mention. What was the highest-ranked mansion from LM2, may I ask? - Rum Rapture wrote:

I find ALBW a lot better than LttP. LttP has aged - ALBW feels fresh and new and wonderful. Keep pressing on: it'll be worth it! |

| I've never found much else to do in OoT other than the main quest. Maybe I've not looked hard enough or something but I've never understood the crazy amount of love for the world or felt as immersed as everyone else does. That's why I think it is a nostalgia thing because I was very late to the party. I'd love to hear someone else who didn't play it on the 64 back in the days opinion though.
As for what I'm posting tonight I wanted to do a "big" award every other day so I decided to post up the rest of the votes today as opposed to tomorrow. |

| Happy to see Hyrule from OoT win, I didn't vote for it myself as I excluded OoT 3D due to the core game being an N64 title, but it's a deserving win, and certainly not down to nostalgia given I didn't even appreciate the game's world until I replayed it in around 2008! And some things are just timeless -- all the landmark N64 games like this, Star Fox 64, Wave Race 64, Yoshi's Story, Mario 64 were so well designed, let alone technically ahead of their time (Ocarina, in one single swoop, effortlessly added in the idea of context-sensitive actions and lock-on targeting alongside new ways of interactive storytelling within a game's world).
The appeal of the game's world lands down to the experimental nature of the game itself, the fact you're invited to mess about and do all sorts of things (putting a bomb down by a time statue never gets old) and play around with NPCs and items in all these sorts of ways is part of the appeal. And unlike other 3D Zeldas, everything always feels like it's happening in the same, interconnected game world, moreso given how much tighter it is than later games (mostly in part due to the game world having a parallel dark world). You're in a world you've already failed to save, and revisiting it seven years later is still as atmospheric as ever. And that's before considering some of the best 3D dungeon designs (and themes) in the game, with titles such as 'forest', 'water', 'shadow' and 'light' being more than clichés. I could go on further but this really is one of my favourite game worlds of all time, and I eagerly await returning to Termina in Majora's Mask because despite its smaller scope, it's got even more heart. |

'Doh'! Spirit temple was the 'light' temple, haha. Mr. Owl's reappearance on that was quite sad in retrospect (yeah I forgot how to spell his name). I enjoyed Wind Waker back in the day but I find it's less interesting than other games in the series, which is a shame because the art style really is gorgeous. Wonder what it'd have been like had it not been rushed... |
