I've put aside the next 3 days for work on my dissertation (it's due in on Tuesday) so I probably shouldn't write until then. Maybe I could swap with Mr Jones (or skip my whole turn if you'd all prefer).

If Jonesy's up for it I don't see any reason why you can't just swap.

Loving the tin-man. Smile

Although, I thought the Vellis had nothing to do with the box? Or was that just a red herring?

I'll see how things pan out with ZJ and Andy's pieces! I'm assuming the route we're heading with this is that the Velli's plot is going to go tits up at the Winter's Ball, and they'll plan again for the Summer's Solstice, but they'll now have competition from all our other characters?

I was imagining (of course it didn't go this way) that Douglas, in his speech, would be telling them that the MacGuffin was no longer behind the door; it was in fact in an undisclosed location in the world, and the ball's attendees had until the summer solstice to find it, and giving them all an obscure clue to set them off.  The Vellis' plot involved stealing the MacGuffin, using the key (somehow) to create a distraction (I quite liked the idea of Kyle putting a keyhole into the table, to tie in with altering the seating plan): obviously there's no point when it's not in the castle, so they join the race for clues and the MacGuffin.

I definitely see the Rat Race part of the story panning out between now and the solstice, with the solstice providing a "finishing line".

I never took the "Rat Race" bit that literally! I was just thinking everyone wants the same thing and events transpire while they search for it. At the moment,  I've got a pretty dark idea in mind if I end up being given the chapter where someone finds the maguffin.
But, hey, it's ages until my next bit so it could still go more like what you were saying!

Ah, I get ya. Yeah I'm kinda hoping it does end up a red herring. Maybe the masked man is some kind of shape shifter?

There are different ways to take it, and I guess mine was just a bit more literal!  We'll see how it goes.

I definitely would like to have something happening in between the events, though.  Perhaps somebody does steal the MacGuffin at the Winter Ball, or the container in which it's in, and they're being chased for half a year by the others, but it can only be unlocked by holding it at 90 degrees to the Mysterious Obelisk when the light from the Summer Solstice noonday sun hits it on its left side...

...I'm not quite sure when that paragraph transcended into tripe.

Or maybe they'll open the door and someone else already stole it so they have to search.
Also just because the vellis' plan would have concluded on the summer solstice doesn't mean that's where the story ends. This is us; we'll find a way for everything to get massively derailed.

Since having that discussion, I've gotten really into Warburtons. It's so soft for so long. It's witchcraft.
