| Code Geass had a great dub and Liam O'Brien actually did a different voice for once so that has to be a win! |

I can't enjoy the Pokémon anime full stop. - Athrun888 wrote:

| Did we mention the live-action AoT film in this thread? Whatever, it'll probably be rubbish anyway, with the cast shots showing all of three established characters and lots of new ones. Expect a "fun" new story too. |

| You called?
Yeah, really excited for this naturally! I've read ahead in the manga, but the upcoming sections (what I'm assuming will be Season 2) were really quite confusing to process. I'm assuming the anime will be easier to follow.

| That is fantastic, and I kinda hope that it has nothing to do with the game just because of how bizarre it is. |

I'm not sure what's available to the UK on crunchy so I can't have a definitive list, all titles I'm unsure about will be marked with an Asterisk. - Aldnoah.Zero-Log Horizon -Akame ga Kill! -Kill la Kill - Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic* - Magi: The Kingdom of Magic* (second season of the above) - Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works-SNAFU* I'm not sure about whether all of these are available in the UK ( the ones marked with an Asterisk aren't available in Australia so I'm unsure as to their status in the UK, I know some series we don't get the UK does get and the other way around), but those are a list of the series I've seen that I know are on crunchyroll. That said if some of those aren't available in the uk you might want to look up some of the UK's anime distritbutors, if the anime scene in the UK is anything like it is in Australia there will probably be one or two UK companies that offer streaming services who likely have the ones not available on crunchy. Also bolded titles are my personal favourites and I highly recomend. As for each series, here's a breakdown of each of them if you want to read the details. - The breakdown:
Aldnoah.Zero is a epic space war mecha series, Earth vs people who left to colonize Mars with some amazing technology they found there, they were then abandoned and left to die by Earth's government. Ten years before the show war broke out between the Vers Empire (what Mars calls itself) and Earth, during the fighting a ton of death and the warp gate connecting the places was destroyed. Present day the Princess of the Vers Empire is taking a journey to Earth where she hopes to learn more about Earth and its people and perhaps broker some kind of permanent peace deal. Naturally things don't go as planned and the war ends up back on.
The show is pretty awesome, Inaho (the main character) is a bit of a bore because of how little emotion he shows but that's also one of the appeals for me, so many of these types of shows usually have some sort of crybaby pacifistic lead. None of that nonesense here, Inaho enrolled in the military and he does his job. Meanwhile there's Slaine, our second main protagonist on Vers side, I can't really say much about him without massive spoilers, so...
Log Horizon, if you've seen Sword Art Online then the setting of a bunch of MMO players being trapped in the game isn't even close to new. However Log Horizon puts a completely new twist on it, as the world they find themselves in is almost too real to be a game. If you choose to watch this one be warned though, it's VERY talk heavy with very little action despite the premise, the lead is a schemer rather than an action hero and the plot reflects this accordingly with political fights and scheming being the action.
Akame ga Kill!, this one isn't really all that deep, it's just some seriously entertaining popcorn action stuff. But that's why I like it. The story centers around country bumpkin Tatsumi, who heads to the Imperial Captial to enlist in the military to earn money for his poor villiage. Upon arriving at the capital he soon learns that there's a assassin squad tsaking out the nobility, soon after he learns things aren't as they seem and the assassin's are actually the good guys. Or the less evil guys anyway, and things go from there.
Oh, and don't expect Akame to be the main character, the series is named after her but she gets hilariously little screentime, don't let the title fool you Tatsumi is the lead. Akame does kick some ass though and that's always fun to watch.
Kill la Kill, the brains behind Gurren Lagann bring you this hilarious over the top action series. This series is honestly really hard to describe, you just have to watch it to get it.
Magi: The Labyrinth / Kingdom of Magic. I'm actually watching this right now (almost at the end of Kingdom), it's great stuff. Set in a world where poverty has created a astronomical gulf between the ruling classes and the average person there exist magical Labyrinths called Dungeons. A person who conquers a dungeon gains treasuer and the magical powers of the Djinn within. Enter Alibaba and Aladdin, the former a wannabe dungeon capturer and the latter a magical being known as a Magi. Adventures, massive wars, and action await.
The thing I like about Magi is that while it's a action / adventure shounen series, it isn't so typical about it that it's boring. What makes it so interesting is its use of the wars, country politics, and grounded magic. Unlike most series the magic isn't just a plot device that is left in a freezer for when the writter gets in to a corner, but rather just another part of the world. In other words the series creates a world and rules of the world, and that is what makes it so good. The only real issue I have with these two series is that we're clearly not going to geta full resolution, but rather a resolution to a plotline. Having said that it's still an ongoing manga, and on top of that I wouldn't let the fact the series doesn't completely end stop you from watching it, because it's just that awesome. Really it's in much the same situation as Attack on Titan, although the first season ended a hell of a lot more satisfyingly and the second season looks set to end much the same.
Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works. This series is basically an action blockbuster type deal. In a small Japanese city there exists a war known as the Holy Grail War, that occurs once every sixty years. Seven participants are called by the Grail to do battle, each summons a heroic Spirit, a hero from ancient history, and does battle to win the war and tge Grail, the Grail giving the winner to have a wish granted, any wish they should desire.
As I said, it's basically a action blockbuster, the animation is just stunning stuff. The animation is, honestly, movie quality. So suffice to say the action sequences are absolutely stunning to watch. The first season aired a few months back and the second and concluding season just started last week.
Finally there's SNAFU, a romantic comedy with a twist: everyone is an anti-social twit. Well, the two leads are anyway. We have our protagonist Hachiman Hikigaya, the most cynical anti-social person in existence who is forced to join a school club by his teacher after one essay touting the brilliance of being a social outlier too many. Said club being the "Service Club" run by the "perfect" Yukino Yukinoshita. Needless to say they get on as you'd expect: they can't stand each other.
Oh, and Magi's soundtrack is just sooooo good, with themes like this and this. Probably a worthless point, but I do like my anime ost's. |

| Thanks Athrun888, I might check some of those out.
The only one I've heard of is Fate/Stay out of those, I am enjoying AoT where I'm on EP15 already. It is the first anime I've seen or watched in years I'm not much of a fan of having it subbed & not dubbed but what you going to do.
There is a few others I recognise on Crunchy like Bleach but I think there's a bit to much there for me to watch. |
